Kingston duo PS I Love You made one heck of an impression with their debut album Meet You At The Muster Station . Now they are poised to follow it up with the May 8th release of their sophomore effort Death Dreams . PS I Love You are not your typical guitar/drums group. Usually bands with that arrangement fall into the garage rock/blues rock axis. However, PS I Love You has more in common with the noisy experimental rock of Sonic Youth than it does with a band like The [...]

Vanessa Heins Kingston duo PS I Love You have a pretty well-established aesthetic. Over there, you've got Benjamin Nelson manning the kit with an impressively nimble brutality while looking bored to a degree that would impress Charlie Watts, and then there's Paul Saulnier shredding every neck on his guitar while simultaneously howling and yelping into the mic. It's a recipe best served loud and live and that's where I preferred to experience them, where it was easier to focus on Saulnier's fantastic fretwork than his acquired-taste vocals which I had trouble acquiring. Still, [...]

by teepoo Here's another sneak peek at what's to come of Death Dreams . More noisy cacophony!

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending April 29 - May 5. This week's #1 goes to a split single with Xiu Xiu that was recently released on Record Store Day. It is Dirty Beaches with a Francoise Hardy cover. The song is dark, gloomy and creepy which is what I love! There are four new debuts from Purity Ring and The Danks. (whose debut album "Are You Afraid Of The Danks" is getting a release in the USA on May 22, 2012) Check it out! [...]

Norman Wong We're going to close out the week with some new and hopefully interesting stuff to listen to, domestic-style. Unless you're not Canadian in which case this will all be strange and foreign and exotic. Whoooooo! Last week, Bruce Peninsula were teasing on their website that something big was coming as of April 24 and they weren't kidding. And it's literally big - an epic-sized, three-part, almost 14-minute song cycle entitled "Of Songs" that takes the band's choral gospel-blues sound in unexpectedly experimental directions. It's available to stream - as below [...]

" Sentimental Dishes " y " Princess Towers " fueron los dos primeros avances que Paper Bag nos regalo desde el anuncio del nuevo album de este duo llamado PS I Love You al cual para serles sincero en un inicio como que no les tenia muchas esperanzas ya que si bien su debut no fue naaada malo, sentia que no era el tipo de banda que alcansaria a llamar la misma atencion con sus siguientes materiales pero al parecer este año han venido a patearme el trasero ya que lo que hemos estado escuchando de [...]

PS I Love You recently recorded a live Paper Bag Session for their single, "Princess Towers", from their upcoming album, Death Dreams , out May 8th through Paper Bag Records. Watch PS I Love You's Benjamin Nelson and Paul Saulnier perform "Princess Towers" below. Read more »

Here is this week's singles chart for the week ending April 22 - 28. We have a new #1 and after spending 7 weeks in the chart. Vancouver's Said The Whale finally hits the top spot with their song "Heavy Ceiling". This week there are five new debuts. One of the debut is Feist with a cover and track which was exclusively released on Record Store Day . Check it out. This Week Last [...]

Polaris season is almost upon us, and one album that will have a spot on my ballot is PS I Love You 's excellent Death Dreams , which comes out on May 8 through Paper Bag Records (although I'm thrilled to already have my vinyl copy ). Below, listen to the mammoth-sized (although only 2:22 long) stomper "Princess Towers." This sounds huge on wax, but still pretty big on laptop speakers.

Frank Yang If you were to plot out my appreciation for Patrick Watson on a graph versus time and geography, the salient data points would read something like this: September 2007, Toronto, Ontario - Watson wins the second Polaris Music Prize with his second album Close To Paradise , an album I was almost wholly unfamiliar with despite the fact that, as a juror, I probably should have been. I generally resent him for this because I was sure that Feist was [...]
Canada has been killing it lately, guys, so hard and so fast that I haven't been able to keep up. Here are no fewer than seven awesome videos that have fallen like manna from the north in the past month or so. PS I Love You - "Don't Go" (see above) PS I Love You recently performed [...]

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending April 15 - 21. So we have a new #1 and it goes to Kingston's PS I Love You. Sentimental Dishes/Princess Towers are taken from the upcoming album "Death Dreams" which drops on May 8th. Love both of these tacks and can't wait for the new album. There are new debuts from Great Lake Swimmers and Bear In Heaven. Just for kicks in this week's chart, I added Gotye thanks in part of SNL and Glee's version of the song. Check it out! [...]

Shervin Iainez Rose Cousins is not a new artist. The Charlottetown by way of Halifax artist has been releasing music for the better part of a decade and I've technically heard her before as she's guested on any number of Maritime-born records including Joel Plaskett's, but I'd not heard any of her own material until her third full-length album We Have Made A Spark , released at the end of February. And clearly that's been my loss. It's not a record that stops you in your [...]
