Sorry for not having the music singles chart last week. It was due to being in Toronto for CMW 2012 . Here is a double bill of the chart. In chart #101, there was no change in the #1 spot but there are debuts of acts that impressed me at CMW. But Cousins spends #1 for the second week. In chart #102, things are changed since the release of the new Japandroids single. I had to make it #1 this week. There are new debuts from Best Coast and Beach House. [...]

Here's a new track from PS I Love You . It's noisier than ever, but the hand claps make it pleasanter to listen to. The song comes off their upcoming album Death Dreams to be released May 8th . PS I Love You- Princess Towers

(Vanessa Heins) Yesterday I had a Vancouver-based guitar-driven duo on deck, and today it's a Kingston-based guitar-driven duo in the spotlight. I'm not trying to draw this as some gee-tar slingin' rivalry between the two bands (I'm sure they'd be really good friends if they got to know each other) but you gotta admit, it's kind of a mind trip h aving two bands, so similar in membership and sound, having two highly anticipated sophomore albums coming out in the same year. PS I Love You [...]

by teepoo PS I Love You was the band I really wanted to see that night. I was utterly disappointed though. Paul was sick that night and they took way too long to set up and tune between sets. For a band that is signed and has some traction, I expected to see more energy on stage but it wasn't that exciting. PS I Love You- Sentimental Dishes Gallery

Frank Yang Despite only seeing four bands, I like to think that I covered a fair bit of ground - stylistically, geographically, exploratorily (?), what have you - on the first night of Canadian Musicfest . The Friday night stuck slightly closer to home on all fronts but yielded much better and consistent results. The evening kicked off at Rancho Relaxo with Neufovin in all the way from Finland (I mistakenly called them Norwegian in my festival preview and apologize profusely). Besides having an affinity for anything [...]

One of the more anticipated releases for me is the sophomore album from Ontario's PS I Love You . Today, we get the second taste of Death Dreams with album cut Princess Towers . The song is a heavy affair in the vein of Death From Above 1979. You can find the track below, along with the previously released Sentimental Dishes . Death Dreams is out May 8th on Paper Bag Records [...]
When looking at what PS I Love You is known best for, 'melody' is not often the first term to come to mind. This is a band that is heralded for their ability to churn out compacted tunes that have cranked the energy up to 11, built upon the white-hot flashes of guitar. A no-nonsense powerhouse of rock, if you will. But then there's "Princess Towers," a song that's every bit as raucous and fuzzy as you'd expect from these guys, and is still somehow able to indulge in plenty of melodic moments. The surprisingly thoughtful melo dic drop that takes place about [...]

Thumping noise-pop from a No Age/Black Keys style duo perspective. Absolutely fantastic drumming on parade here, coupled with those fierce muted power-chord stabs.

Photograph by Erin Algiere When first we heard from Tennis they had an incredible amount of positive buzz attached to their name. With only one single and a story that chronicled a long term romance filled with university life, sailing trips, and marriage, Tennis reached for the top of the blogosphere and generated the kind of hype that a major label’s marketing team can only dream of. But having a hit debut album can be both a blessing and a curse. Although Tennis received a considerable amount of praise for Cape Dory , they needed [...]

Wow! This is #100 on the music singles chart! The #1 single that takes it, goes to Halifax's Cousins with their song Jules. Jules is taken from the upcoming album The Palm At The End Of The Mind . PS I Love You 's upcoming sophomore LP, Death Dreams , is a total banger, and that also goes for the single "Sentimental Dishes." This song is every bit as noisy and fuzzy as 2010's Meet Me at the Muster Station , but the pop hooks are perhaps a little more front-and-centre. That is, until it ends with some face-melting guitar shredding. You're going to want to get ready for this album. Go to Exclaim! to read my story about it.
