Over time hit songs seem to be recycled by anyone and everyone in the form of a cover. Some butcher a brilliant track, while others have the uncanny knack of 'making it their own' (apologies for borrowing an overused Australian Idol cliché). We've decided to pick out a few of the lesser known covers, or perhaps songs you didn't even know were covers in the first place! You've Got The Love Original: The Source Ft. Candi Staton - You've Got [...]
Beach House made the mistake of leading off 2k10 with their "Teen Dream" album release, now their album isn't really 'remembered' by that many people. I can't even recall if their album was 'actually good' or if I was just 'excited about a new year of buzzbands / releases.' All of their songs sound the same, so on some days this is a good thing, and on some days this is a bad thing for their brand. I think this choir of kids record songs, then put them on youtube, then a bunch of famous people [...]

The PS22 Chorus , that amazing music program based in Staten Island where kids sing their heart out to the brightest songs of the day, has posted a new cover of Beach House 's 'Zebra.' Off the group's 'Teen Dream' album, 'Zebra' is the lush lead single based around stuttering and swirling vocals that are perfect for the choral treatment. These fifth-graders really take it to the next level with those two-part [...]

Phoenix will be a headliner at Lollapalooza, TimeOut Chicago reports . The French popsters will join previously reported headliners Green Day, Lady Gaga, Soundgarden, Strokes and Arcade Fire, TimeOut reports. Adding Phoenix balances out the roster of top acts a bit and is a huge boost for Phoenix. Separately, here's an interesting cover of Lisztomania by the PS22 Chorus. Lisztomania - Phoenix
"Lisztomania" by Phoenix was arguably the most meaningful song of 2009 if you didn't 'get' Animal Collective / "My Girls." The song has a massive 'crossover appeal', and continues to move mad units on iTunes and Best Buys all around the world. In this video, an innercity chorus sings the song in a meaningful fashion, looking to inspire 'hope' It seems like we can assume that all of these children come from difficult life situations, and are using music to 'escape' temporarily from their despair / status frustration. U can [...]
I was recently in my car listening to some song by the lead singer of the Yea Ya Yee-ah!s which she apparently wrote for the ' Where the Wild Things Are ' soundtrack. From what I understand, they are attempting to make the movie seem meaningful to kids by borrowing the commercialized 'meaningful aesthetic' from modern 'indie aesthetic.' Please sing the meaningful lyrics along with the kidz in the song: One, two, ready, GO! Grow some big feet Holes in history is where you'll [...]

PS22 Chorus Covers Björk - "All Is Full of Love" Phew. The adorable PS22 Chorus is back on track after being disconcertingly "co-opted by viral marketers" for a moment there. A lot has gone down since we last raved about their cover of Phoenix's "Lisztomania," which hit the blogosphere by storm in early March—namely, the PS22 kids have since covered Beach House with their pony-tailed teacher, Gregg Breinberg , Toad the Wet Sprocket (?), Marina & the Diamonds , and more . Here's their latest: Björk's "All Is [...]

Record Store Day, the Vinyl Revival and the Evolution of Expectations
Saturday I visited a number of Seattle's finer independent record stores to sample the wares and see what was hidden among the stacks. Following a tasty brunch at Bimbos with Douglas, who despite showing up before opening to stand in line didn't find the one release he was looking for, we headed down to the [...]

Children's Choir Covers Phoenix
Continuing on the Phoenix tip, I came across this video which is spreading quickly of the PS22 Chorus (who contributed vocals for Passion Pit's debut) singing their version of Phoenix's "Lisztomania." Read more about these brilliant kids in the Guardian . Considering they'll be featured in Entertainment Weekly and probably a million other publications, this isn't any sort of scoop. Still, this choir puts other kids to shame. Gotta love the husky dude in white being spastically into it and his buddy's Mutombo finger wag around the 2:05 mark. Much respect. [...]

¡"Lisztomania" a cappella!
[Vía: Drowned In Sound ]

These Are the Hippest 5th-Graders Ever
Click here to view the embedded video. As the famous photoblog might have said, Look At These F-ing Hipsters . I didn't actually use the curse word, because these elementary school alt-icons are no doubt tech-savvy and I don't need their parents Google-ing them and finding a bunch of sailor talk. But just look at them. Here they are, none of them a day older than twelve, with the classiest cover version of, very arguably, the best indie-rock single of last year. I did choir back in the day; would that my choir [...]

An exciting day for Cover Me today, as we unveil our spiffy new logo (which you saw above). All the contest entries were great, but that cover-tastic design above comes from winner Gabriella C. She describes her approach:I knew what I wanted to do pretty much as soon as I saw the contest announcement.
