Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and sonic explorer Nik Fackler has a new, self-title album out on Team Love Records, and "Saw A Blind Dad" is one of the tracks from it-and it's an attention-grabbing track at that. The song is a real barn-burner, and kicks off with some punishing walls of guitar distortion and industrially manufactured drums. Between the songs ferociously loud start and finish are an array of psychedelic pit stops, strange vocals, and messy acoustic musings. It's a pretty fun, cacophonous trip.

Heeeeeeeeeeeere's JOHNNY! Hot on the heels of Chaîne no. 13 , and making his London concert debut at the Royal Albert Hall this week, it's Johnny Hallyday . Listen up! More multiple linkage coming your way >>>>> link 1) The last post was Fabienne Delsol 's sassy cover of Sylvie Vartan . As you should all know, Sylvie and Johnny were married in 1965 and were the "golden couple" of the yé-yé scene. link 2) Sylvie's song [...]

Tame Impala Lonerism Modular Tame Impala's Lonerism is one of the most gorgeous sounding modern rock records of recent memory. It's progressive, psychedelic rock both in the sense that it marries ace musicianship with druggy sound collages, and in the sense that it furthers the possibilities of what can be done within in the framework of psychedelic rock. It's also, the rare rock record that earns all of its accolades . You will be impressed by this record. And, yet, after fifteen minutes of so much twiddling and so much fluttering, and a [...]
With a more colorful recording, bolder experiments, and more expansive jams, Australia's Tame Impala shows nothing but improvement on their sophomore effort, Lonerism . WATCH THE REVIEW
With a new album titled Mars on the way before 2013 kicks in-I assume-here's a track from Sinkane titled "Jeeper Creeper." I'm digging the mix of influences on this track. The instrumentation here pulls together elements of psych music, drone, funk, and afrobeat as well. What's more impressive is all these things are blended together so naturally that it seems as if it were just meant to be. I wish the vocals were a bit more lively, but they certainly do fit in with the somewhat dream-like soundscape of the music.

This unique and fascinating album has belatedly garnered a considerable following in recent years as a result of the new interest in what is nowadays referred to as Acid Folk. In reality it’s finely-structured acoustic folk-rock, but with strong elements of psychedelic studio treatment and twentieth-century avant-garde classical and choral music. Until now it’s only rated a couple of oblique references in these pages; now it’s time to give it the full exposure it deserves. The album was the product of a chance conversation between Los Angeles periodontist Linda Perhacs and one of her [...]

Prepare for some spine tingling psych pop that's set on getting under your skin. Recommended by a regular (thanks Mitchell!) Death And Vanilla create an otherworldly atmosphere, equally vintage and spooky! The Swedish duo (Marleen Nilsson and Anders Hansson) delivered their debut self-titled album back in June. Their spacey 60s styled creations are as cinematic as it gets. Unfortunately the first two vinyl pressings are already sold out, but the digital version is available now . Meanwhile, Death And Vanilla have recently contributed a new instrumental tune called 'Ascend & Descend' for the book 'I Hear A [...]

This self titled release by Swahili is noisy as fuck and even a little on the cultured side of things....but I would never call it psychedelic like their genre label on BandCamp suggests . Is Gang Gang Dance Psychedelic? I guess a little on the psychedelic side. Anyone that jams out in their recordings is fair game to be called psychedelic I guess by the mainstream Indie blogs. But these Swahili tracks are very complete and they say something to me. And yet this is another gem from Portland. I'm loving the vibe that this dark city gives [...]

Many of the artists that made the classic psych/garage comps Nuggets and Pebbles tend to have a disappointing discography, other than that one killer track. Whether they recorded an album full of filler cuts or no album at all, diving in based on one single is a risk. But damn, the search pays off when you dig up just one well-buried record that should have been a classic. Long Island's Chuck Laskowski began his recording career, along with friend and collaborator Nick Manzi, as The Rustics, an [...]

Moon Duo Circles Sacred Bones Even the most ardent supporters of Moon Duo, and guitarist Ripley Johnson's other band, Wooden Shjips, for that matter, have to admit the songs all start to sound the same after a while. Granted, that's the point. Johnson's compositions, steeped in the San Francisco psychedelic tradition, rely heavily on repetition of guitar and bass, of drums and keys, with slight variations becoming amplified as they're worked within this larger, strictly applied method. It's a good trick, but it's also gotten to the point [...]
Presented by the Creator's Project , here's a new video for the Grizzly bear track "Yet Again," which comes off the band's latest LP, Shields . Check a review of it here . Historically, Grizzly Bear videos haven't exactly sat all to well withe me. The claymation on " Ready, Able " just seemed kinda messy to me, " While You Wait For the Others " was just all over the place," and "the Knife" just feels like a commercial for something when it's not too busy creeping me out. Did I mention the " [...]

Thee Oh Sees Putrifiers II In the Red Eschewing his recent trend of keeping the pop songs on one album (20112s Castlemania) and the rock songs on another (20112s Carrion Crawler/The Dream), the prolific John Dwyer seeks to combine both wonderfully weird strains of his band's psychedelia into one concise record with Thee Oh Sees' 10-song EP, Putrifiers II. And it should work fantastically. Distilling two albums into one should cut the clutter and make for one wild ride, or so the theory goes. Opening number, "Wax Face," certainly gives a [...]
We all know Tame Impala's unmatched and uncanny ability to replicate the sounds of golden age psychedelia, but with their latest video offering, the Perth boys prove that, with a little help from Japanese visual artist Yoshi Sodeoka, they can flawlessly emulate the mind-bending visuals of 60s psychedelic rock videos as well. Every color of the rainbow is represented as vivid washes of color bleed over footage of the band performing live, forming something akin to the "Star Gate" sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey . My favorite element of the video is its frequent use of [...]

Chandeliers South Bend, Indiana-based Captcha Records has teamed up with ACRE artist residency for an eclectic showcase at Navy Pier during Expo Chicago . Local electro art rockers Chandeliers are headlining this shindig. I personally can't think of anything better to dance to on a clear night in full view of the Chicago skyline than the hypnotic jams of Chandeliers. On the band's latest album Founding Fathers , Chandeliers' pile on the synths, samples and glitchy hip-hop beats for a full-on groove session. Come for the art at [...]

"Mythical trust of a nylon fortune" ain't exactly the fibre from which your average buzz band is stitched, but then Temples are anything but your average buzz band . Indeed it's almost inconceivable that Sun Structures, the latest track from the self-professed 'neo-psych duo', was only unleashed on the internetz eight days ago as it has more in common with San Diegan acid rock alchemists Iron Butterfly than Icona Pop, or other such Hype Machine frivolity. Featuring sitar effects, and synths, and fuggy stoner indie it's a colossal pile of puissant allurement we're currently shacked right up [...]
