Psychedelic Horseshit are fucking awesome. Other people seem to agree too, which is nice as we're putting out their debut UK single in July and it'd be good to sell loads and spend the profits on cans of Ting and multipacks of Monster Munch. There's a Vice interview here Spin Magazine article on shitgaze, featuring Times New Viking and Pink Reason too: Drowned In Sound have written about the single here , which was nice. And reviewed [...]

Over the past year or so I seem to have come across loads of great bands with bad names. You've got to overcome your initial prejudice through appreciating the music. With Psychedelic Horseshit it's the other way around. You hope that the band's music is really as good as their name. The answer is a qualified yes. In talking about Psychedelic Horseshit we've got to remember to check all usual expectations of production values. I mean, I generally like my music stripped down and without unnecessary embellishment, but this is taking the piss. The Horseshit (as [...]
"Let's get this over with." -- Tom, deciding to get the party started after a 47-minute opening music set "Oh, good. Drinking and radio don't mix." -- Julie, approving of Tom's sobriety "I made fun of Mark & Mindy ? You didn't like that? You didn't find my Mark & Mindy joke funny?" -- Tom, inquiring about Jerry from Boulder's rejection of his ribbing "You don't sleep. You don't sleep! Stay haunted! You stay haunted by it! You don't think I'm [...]

Recently I was listening to Psychedelic Horseshit through headphones, and halfway through the song there was no sound coming through the right earbud. Normally, this would cause me to check my headphone connection to see if the jack had become partially unplugged. But I didn't. I just assumed it was purposeful, and I didn't realize it was a faulty connection until the next song started. The fact that I didn't check is telling. Horseshit's sound is messiness to the max, the exact opposite of a headphone album. On the band's Siltbreeze full-length, Magic Flowers Droned, and [...]

Columbus, Ohio in the house for my radio show , providing a day of fine dining, high entertainment and more than a little Robert Zimmerman channeling (they soundchecked live with "Like A Rolling Stone"). I'm not quite sure who was the Donovan here to guitarist Matt's Dylan (guesting bassist Kevin Failure of Pink Reason was way too tall), but Station Manager Ken provided D.A. Pennebaker action. Their new disc Magic Flowers Droned on Siltbreeze is one of the listens of the year for those who like their indelible hooks smothered in [...]

[MP3] Psychedelic Horseshit [...]

Siltbreeze trumps itself releasing yet another crusted nugget of trash bin garage core psych punk. The label's latest offering, in the form of the beautiful mess that is Psychedelic Horseshit's Magic Flowers Droned neither brings to mind flowers nor drones but its magic indeed. Ramshackle pop that tumbles down the stairs in the morning and kicks out the door into the unforgiving light of day. Much in the same vein as fellow (or rather former) Siltbreezers Times New Viking, the band devours the pop canon and then spits it back at you in bursts of noise, punk and [...]

Last time we heard, our heroes were lost in the limbo separating the barren desert scoured by the mercilless eye of God from the land of ghosts where a sepia thistle blooms for every sin you have committed, they advanced holding hands, oblivious to the warnings of tongue-speaking coyotes and vultures cruising the sky like gaunt walkirias ready to feast of the carrion of those who dare, their adventures in this strange land shall one day be told, but not now, what we know is they came out on the other side, transformed by their underwordly transit, singing a hymn [...]

Psychedelic Horseshit Magic Flowers Droned Siltbreeze 2007 I want to work on a marketing campaign for the Columbus lo-fi band Psychedelic Horseshit. I've got all these great slogans we could use: "With a name like Psychedelic Horseshit, it's got to be good." "A day without Psycedelic Horseshit is like a day without sunshine." "Psychedelic Horseshit. It melts in your mouth, not in your hands." Ok, maybe that last one doesn't work quite so well as the others, but I think you see my point. Besides it being loads of fun to put [...]

MP3: New Wave Hippies Psychedelic Horseshit frontman Matt Whinehurst is young Pac in the flesh. Doesn't mean I like Pac or that Matt's mom was a crackhead. I never even liked Tupac. But I like the idea of Tupac as in a public figure who will say anything in public and not give a fuck. And it meant something to him and other people. To me Psychedelic Horseshit's new album "Magic Drone Flowers" (Stiltbreeze) sounds like when my mom told me to do chores on [...]

Yes, Robert Pollard's catalog is too big. Even the most ardent fans of Pollard and Guided by Voices will concede this point. Just the other day, after I had already played one of Pollard's two new releases, Coast to Coast Carpet of Love, a few times, I found myself wanting more. However, when I found myself up against his sprawling catalog on eMusic I couldn't make up my mind. I logged off and put GBV's Propeller on the stereo instead. Now, that's a damn good record. The reason I, and others, shrug of his [...]
