So, this is kind of cool: this Brooklyn band Pterodactyl is on Brah Records , an imprint on Jagjugawar curated by Oneida . They're really arty and crazy. Kind of like Oneida but less psych. They've got a new album called Spills Out coming out November 15th. (Via Altered Zones ) Pterodactly - Nerds Photo: 'Taken by the good people at "Partie de Chasse", in Liege, Belgium.'
Click image to download track Sounds like: Liars, Los Campesinos! "Pterodactyl - School Glue" What's so good? Good noise-rock can be hard to come by. Perhaps because of its raw nature, it's become something of a go-to for bands looking to get loud, without much consideration to the musical skill underneath the fuzz of their guitars. Thankfully, there are bands like Brooklyn-based [...]

Tonight Pterodactyl will be hosting the Big Art Show: Hot As Hell Party where six vertical feet of space will be provided per artist (which also includes show attendees) to show and/or sell their work. Local electro duo City Rain will be performing and most likely sharing tunes from their upcoming self-titled LP due out this September. Impulsive riot rockers Revolution, I Love You will also be supplying some electro-noise pop from their recent debut album We Choose to Go to the Moon (which you can download for free HERE ), while Brooklyn's [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just a few of the songs that would get their own individual posts here on GIMME TINNITUS if I only had the time. You can stream all the songs in this mix using the Yahoo media player at the bottom of the page OR if you are browsing with Chrome you can play (and scrobble ) the whole page using the ex.fm extension OR you [...]
From their third album, Spills Out, we have Pterodactyl's first single "School Glue". The track starts slow with an ominous noise for 30 seconds before exploding into a raw energetic three minutes of distortion and screeching guitars. The vocals cut through the mix well though and the slightly muffled drums seem to add to the sporadic yet organised sound of "School Glue". That's a good thing, I think. A well rounded song and a good taste of what is to come from these guys later in the year. Spills Out is expected to drop on November [...]

Here’s some lovely mutant noise-pop from Brooklyn band Pterodactyl. ‘School Glue’ is the first track to be taken from the band’s album ‘Spills Out’, which is out on November 15. Listen to the song here: ‘School Glue’

Lightning Bolt is crazy. They have the loudest, rumbliest, most rocking live show, and it is something not to be missed. Combine that with the outdoors on a nice spring day- the juxtaposition is sure to be magic! Plus, you also get to see Pterodactyl, Ducktails, and So So Glos. AND enjoy street booths manned by NYU students. Which, you know, might be a good thing or a bad thing. The music, though, that's definitely a good thing. MP3: "Dead Cowboy" - Lightning Bolt

"Animal Show" is Pterodactyl 's fitting yearly art show where a menagerie of beasts become the muses that are used to depict the artists' projection of myths, fantasies, and ideas. For opening night, the DIY art space has lined-up a 3 ring circus of musicians to heighten the evening's party. Eat Your Birthday Cake have been working on an album that is set to be unveiled in the spring. They've even debuted a lo-fi shoegaze-y sound that can be heard on new material such as "Kathy + Ken". The Pterodactyl event will be the bands 2nd performance [...]

Marnie Stern built her reputation on two albums' worth of finger-tapping guitar virtuosity. But last fall, she released a third self-titled record that, while packed with some of the year's best guitar squall, entirely transcended its technical merits. Marnie Stern is a personal document of loss and recovery, full of worry and indecision and fear, yet flecked with glimpses of strength and hope. On the heels of the most powerful album of her career, Stern took some time out of her crazy-busy CMJ week to curate and guest host an episode of the Flavorpill [...]

It was a nice Thursday at Cake Shop- lots of good vibes to go around. I think people from Austin just generally know how to have a nice, laid back time, and how to be nice to each other. Yellow Fever brought all that, plus their excellent tunes with them from Texas. They played a concise, short set full of satisfying songs. The beauty of Yellow Fever is their mastery of thirds. Their sparse, dueling guitar and keyboard parts often reside in this interval, and become irresistibly catchy in the way they slide up to that second note. The genius [...]

There's a lot of interesting shows swirling around this Thursday night, but I think this will be the most pleasant one to attend, mostly based on Yellow Fever's presence. I've blogged about these delightful Austinites before, and I'm happy to say that their star is on the rise. Their sparse, oftentimes dark, songs have shades of Sleater Kinney and Le Tigre-like rhythms, but are decidedly something all their own. The only other band on the bill I know is Dream Diary, who I saw once at Monster Island Basement. Cute, but ultimately unmemorable, it is possible that they could be [...]
