Day three of The Kickback’s SXSW Tour Video Diary find the indie rockers smack in the middle of SXSW happenings. Rock shows in the bright Texas sun, a puppet-lead man-on-the-street segment with their “manager” Howie and a special guest cameo from Public Enemy’s Chuck D are all included. Yes, you read that correctly. Dig it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzRI85 3ozhQ

If you watched the Grammy Awards this year, you no doubt saw LL Cool J's show-ending performance with DJ Z-Trip and Chuck D of Public Enemy , among others. Well, it seems like that wasn't some one-off type of gig, because they're all hitting the road together this spring and summer with Ice Cube and De La Soul , too. That's one hell of a lineup, even though I'm mostly excited about everyone but the headliner. Tour dates: [...]
Public Enemy 25th Anniversary Vinyl Collection The self proclaimed ‘Prophets of Rage’, Public Enemy, celebrate their 25th Anniversary of making and releasing amongst the most influential and important music in the last quarter century. Their politically charged and militant stance upset middle America, the media (whom Public Enemy heavily criticised) and the US government [...]
The shining city lights of New Orleans were momentarily eclipsed by the neon haze of thousands of LED lights and the bobbing glow sticks of a perpetually dancing crowd on the banks of the Mississippi River. This was Buku Music + Art Project : the eclectic two-day festival that took over the Mardi Gras World facility last weekend. While gates opened around four in the afternoon each day, the party lasted until three in the morning. Regardless of the ground's close quarters, each stage felt as if it belonged to an entirely different festival. There was something [...]

Recession? What recession? Not content with the announcement of two major festivals plus the Blur show, the past few days have seen a rake of gig announcements: Public Enemy - Button Factory, April 21st Slayer - Academy, June 10th Power Of Dreams / Sack - Grand Social, March 16th Tindersticks (21st Anniversary Concert) - Vicar Street, Oct 24th Haim - Whelan's, May 25th The School [...]
Have you heard this yet? It's from the recent Public Enemy album, The Evil Empire of Everything , and it's really not what you'd expect. ...Everything could be the great missing Stax single. It's pure working class '60s soul, gruff and melancholy and proud. After 25 years of sonic assault, it's as if they decided their politics demanded that they make an everyman record. Whatever the impetus, this is a great song, with the vocals of Chuck D and Sheila Brody and the sax of Gerald Albright punching each other through the [...]

Rock auteur David Byrne joined drummer extraordinaire Questlove on the Public Theater's stage as part of the Skirball Center's "Public Forum: Duets" series. And you couldn't have chosen two more physically opposite people to sit next to each other. [...]

Talk about finding a good sample and using it. This Public Enemy comeback single from 2007 heavily samples the brass section from Shirley Bassey's track Jezahel and it's a smokin' track. I only really discovered this movie after watching the movie End of Watch , which for my money, is one of the best cop movies I have ever seen. You need to watch that. But back to this song, the sampling and the flow is totally reminiscent of early 90s rap, which I guess is to be expected since it's Public Enemy. How did [...]
