• Public Enemy - You're Gonna Get Yours

I was a little disappointed when I first heard the news that Philadelphia's modern legens The Roots would be joining Jimmy Fallon on Late Night as the house band. No, I wasn't up in arms about the band "selling out" or anything, I was scared to death that The Roots Picnic - the Philadelphia summer festival- would cease to exist and I'd never get to see this amazing band perform live again. This is probably one of the most fascinating parts of hip hop: the art of sampling. In Copyright Criminals, the film delves into the art of digging, and the people on the opposite sides of the fence. Check out Chuck D., still representing the Buccos of Suckitude all these years later. (Didn't the Pirates try to sue him back in the 80's or something?) This performance is awesome, and it also confirms that the Roots can enhance even a tried-and-true classic, as they fill in for Anthrax on "Bring the Noise."

I was skeptical about Jimmy Fallon being behind the Late Night desk. But who could blame me? He was only following up the best late night talk show host of all time. However, I've been very impressed by Fallon's efforts. And that includes allowing Public Enemy to slay the other night.

While Jimmy Fallon may still be trying to find his voice as the new host of Late Night, his house band The Roots seem to be killing it on a nightly basis. The Philly-based hip-hop collective will take a break from their late night duties when they host their 2nd annual Roots Picnic in their hometown on June 6. i have not seen jimmy's show as of yet, although i have heard half way decent things. my brain on the other hand, keeps bringing up the fact that this is jimmy fallon, and honestly he's not that funny. so, why should i watch? maybe funny isnt his thing? maybe this kind of gig is more up his alley. either way, there is no denying that this is all kinds of awesome. The 2nd Annual Roots Picnic . Jesus. Small set list but the magnitude of the performers is staaaaadium status!!!! I have yet to see the Roots live. I have been waiting for so. long. Them being on Jimmy Fallon doesn't count. Sometimes I wish it was just the Roots on Late Night with...the Roots! or ?uestlove! But nope, Jimmy shows up errrday. Good for him. Public Enemy joined the Fallon house band The Roots for a live performance of Enemy's infamous Bring The Noise .  Love seeing Chuck D and Flavor Flav on stage together.  This track never gets old.
