So last week a zillion aging rap fans (me included) messed themselves when they learned that the Roots would be backing Public Enemy when P.E. ran through It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back live at the Roots ' summer "Picnic" show in Philadelphia. (Moving back to the Philly metro area suddenly seems like the best decision I've made in many moons.) While I'd probably be happy watching the Roots throw down behind just about any singer or rapper, this is particular inspired pairing , as we saw, um, earlier today. [...]
First of all, happy belated birthday to Flavor Flav — he turned 50 yesterday! Secondly, we're still not watching Fallon's show, but if this clip is any indication, the show's bookers are totally making up for any previously embarrassing musical guests (*cough*clapyyourhandssayyeah* cough*). Wicked cool.
There are some shows where the connection made between the artist and the audience is evident, and that bond goes a long way towards making the show a memorable one. And there are some shows, like Tricky's performance at the Fine Line, where that connection is not only apparent, but it's tangible, demonstrated by Tricky's plunge into the crowd during the encore of his two-hour set to shake hands and thank nearly all of the audience in the packed club for coming out to the show. It was a manifestation of a relationship between Tricky and the crowd that had [...]

The Roots just announced the line-up for the Philly "Roots Picnic" in June 6, and it's so fucking good. If this is what they do with their post-Fallon free time, these guys could back those Tim and Eric dipshits and I would give it a thumbs up. Get ready for this: Public Enemy will playing It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back with the Roots backing them! Public Enemy x The Roots - "Bring the Noise" Live on Jimmy Fallon
with the Antibalas horns: ESSENTIAL!!!!! [via RapRadar.com ]
Public Enemy - Bring the Noise (culte inside)

Watch: Public Enemy & The Roots take over Jimmy Fallon
For all those who doubted that Jimmy Fallon would not be able to fill Conan O'Brien's shoes whatsoever...well, you're dead wrong. For the Brooklyn native, SNL alum and current Late Night prince, Fallon has certainly shed his "first week blues" and established his own spin on the typical late night talk show. Last night, along with his excellent house band, Philadelphia's The Roots , the skittish host invited up to the stage none other than Roosevelt, Long Island rap legends Public Enemy , who were the night's musical guest. With an incredible and amped up version of the [...]

Ear on TV: Week of 03.16.09: Public Enemy
Jimmy Fallon has two weeks under its belt, and it's a no-brainer to say that the highlight of the talk show is The Roots as house band. Whether its "slow-jamming the news" or backing musical guests , the band has been even better than advertised. Monday, they'll be backing the legendary Public Enemy , as they perform a track from their legendary album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back . It will serve as a warmup for The Roots' annual picnic this year , [...]

Coachella Adjusts LineUp after Amy Winehouse Drops Out
MUSIC NEWS - Devendra Banhart, the Orb, Chemical Bros., Murder City Devils and Etienne de Crecy have been added to the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival lineup after Amy Winehouse pulled out over her legal troubles. Her recent assault charges in the UK made it unlikely she would to be able to get a US visa to perform. Winehouse has announced that her return to the concert stage will now be in the UK in May at the Island Records 50th Anniv celebration . And, Flying Lotus, Public Enemy [...]
For the Next Three Days I'll Be Bringing the Noise [Reintroductions]
Good morning! Maura is... Actually, I have no idea why Maura has temporarily abandoned her post. (My guess is she's already chasing Bloody Marys with Xanax in preparation for SXSW, but choose your own adventure.) After a seasonally affected lost weekend spent wrestling with Mega Man 9 and pining for sunlight, I've been once again handed the keys to this crazy thing, at least until Wednesday at the close of business. Be gentle with me if I'm occasionally off my blog game. (Also: I am no longer connected to the Idolator tip line, so if you have breaking [...]
