Pujol is a Nashville garage outfit based around lead songwriter Daniel Pujol and after a pretty successful CMJ they're back with the clip for their Nasty, Brutish, And Short EP standout "Mayday." It's gotta a pretty addictive hook, and the lyric "wear that crown all over town" indeed produces a crown in the video. Watch The Throne: Garage Punk Edition. Give it a look after the jump. Nashville rock band PUJOL 's track "Mayday" is the defining cut off their Saddle Creek debut EP, Nasty, Brutish, And Short . But as far out as the rocking, transcendental punk number is, it's the song's music video that takes the cake for being most bizarre. In the clip, frontman/namesake Daniel Pujol and a friend spend the day competing in various amicable games, including a spirited round of cards and some harmless knifeplay. Because, hey, what's a stab wound between friends? However, like everything the band does, there's greater subtext just below the surface, with the competition [...]

Recently featured in our category New On The Map , Nashville based Garage Rock-act PUJOL has a fitting new video for his misjudged hit "Mayday" . It features Daniel Pujol and a bandmate in a little knifeplay. The sportsmanship portrayed "begets something between the two parties involved," explains Pujol, "like a music video or human synergy, as opposed to the brinksmanship and funky power struggles of a zero-sum game for exclusive wieners and losers." Alright! Watch the video over at Rolling Stone ! Pujol's new EP [...]

Pujol Nasty, Brutish, and Short Saddle Creek Nasty, brutish, and short, indeed. At seven tracks and less then 20 minutes, Pujol's debut EP for Saddle Creek Records, is a rough-edged mix of garage and punk served with a side of Southern swagger that is both instantly likable and full of promise. Lead vocalist, and band namesake, Daniel Pujol of Nashville, has a scruffy and scraggly delivery immediately comparable to a young Westerberg, Eric Bachmann during his Archers of Loaf days, or even Eddie Spaghetti of the Supersuckers. He just exudes [...]
CMJ 2011 is over, so let the re-living begin. We bring to you a list of CMJ shows with the most memorable of moments.
Local favorites Creepoid will be bringing their grungy-psych-folk sounds to Kung Fu Necktie in support of The Jacuzzi Boys and Pujol (who both just completed a bunch of shows at CMJ). The four-piece was recently selected as the October artist for Weathervane Music and XPN 's Shaking Through program, which gives independent acts a chance to record their music with expensive equipment in studios they normally would not have access to. Creepoid's session was curated by R5 's Sean Agnew and produced by Kyle "Slick" Johnson (producer for Horse Heaven ). [...]

The Graboid is back this week and with so many great albums to choose from, it comes as a friendly reminder of why this can be such a useful resource for you week in and week out. The 10000-pound gorilla in the room has to be M832s Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - the ambitious double album from Anthony Gonzalez. While an excellent record, there is another release that should not be overlooked and might be just as worthy of your well-earned money - Real Estate's Days . As far as I'm concerned, [...]

Alabama Shakes CMJ music festival begins this week in New York. Skinny jeans are being pressed, fedoras are getting sized, and dark, thick-framed glasses are being adjusted. While we will not be making the trek, we would like to give our recommendations from afar. The festival boasts plenty of bands that have already made names for themselves and that are must see shows, like Atlas Sound, Portugal. The Man, Shonen Knife, and J. Mascis. Other bands, such as Givers or Unknown Mortal Orchestra, have secured contracts with labels, and are definitely worth [...]
PUJOL - Nasty, Brutish, And Short by SaddleCreek The new PUJOL EP is Nasty, Brutish and Short . I've heard some of it, it is good. It comes out tomorrow on Saddle Creek , real cheap. I missed the PUJOL record release this past Saturday at The End in Nashville, I felt sad for a little while.
