According to The Guardian , the acclaimed musician will be tasked with an "open brief to acquire books for a small list at Faber from January 2012," with the hope of expanding the company's music publishing. Faber is also releasing Cocker's first book, Mother, Brother, Lover , a collection of his lyrics accompanied with commentary, next week (Oct. 20th). As The Guardian [...]
Kasabian prove they are about more than just weird album titles.

She's a lady - Pulp This wasn't the song in my head this morning. It was Henry's Dress' The Way She Goes , but i wanted to do something nice and honour the song that was in my girlfriend's head for a change, as though to keep something of her here, to evince her wonderful, wonderful effect on me. I'm a wreck. I'm going to try and force my mind into singing Woke Up New by the Mountain Goats as i [...]

I'm so excited to welcome back Girls with their second LP, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, ! These eleven tracks of pure sweetness, heaviness, angst, and sensitivity will swoon the ladies and impress the guys. The opening track instantly reminded me of the [...]
I woke up a couple of mornings ago to Pulp's "Live Bed Show", the song lodged right in the middle of their unforgettable 1995 Different Class album. It was nowhere as anthemic as "Common People" nor as immediately tragic as "Disco 20003, but its cynicism seemed to burn deeper than the rest of the record, with its protagonist struggling with life past her prime and only the reminisce of seven years ago, a memory that's always left hanging. Struggling out of bed and dragging myself out of the house, I wasn't quite sure what kind of past I [...]

Like millions of us here in the States, I was watching the Saints/Packers season opener this past week. There was a lot of hullabaloo and fireworks and shiny objects. And I couldn't help but think that Maroon 5 is Collective Soul for this era. (which isn't exactly a bad thing) Then, Kid Rock appeared and I decided to surf and find something interesting to kill some time until - you know - the actual game. I hit on Batman Begins , got sucked into it, and missed [...]

Beirut – Main Stage Dusk is falling on the final day in Stradbally and revellers are weary, and a little bit woozy – a perfect combination for the music of Beirut. Zach Condon has just released his third LP. Cultured by his trips around the Balkans, France and Mexico, The Rip Tide is somewhat somnolent but striking in measured maturity and restrained grandeur. There are concerns over Condon's performance, and they are not unwarranted. In the past it has been shambolic, a young man intoxicated by the follies of youth. But Condon is now an ancient [...]

The Sunday line-up has a nice balance of chilled out acts and some bands to keep your energy levels up. Pulp play the main stage as the retro headline act, Zola Jesus is a good alternative tho, on the Cosby Stage at the same time. As usual there is plenty to see, so here's our picks: Oh Land - Electric Arena @ 2.30pm There's something in the water in Scandinavia, producing a steady stream of talented female acts. Oh Land is a perfect example of this, [...]
No doubt you have all been busy with highlighters at the ready, making your own lists of acts to see at Electric Picnic this weekend. The line-up is pretty amazing and they have got a nice balance between international and homegrown acts. Here is a brief run through a few of the acts I'm hoping to see. [...]
Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and Jarvis Cocker of Pulp appear on the cover of this week's NME.

While the rest of New England spent the weekend bracing for that wet, windy, bitch named Irene, WFNX Program Director PAUL DRISCOLL set off for Old England to take in this year's Reading... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .
