In Roskilde today. Not going to write anything about what I'm doing here, because you really don't want to know, since it has absolutely nothing to do with a certain Festival . Unless of course you're so truly bored that my working life could be of some interest, though I seriously doubt (and hope) that anyone can be that bored? Instead I suggest you enjoy this video clip for a truly underrated song that popped up on the iPod on my train ride this morning...

These days I've been listening to the new album by Boys Like Girls. It might sound a bit mainstream etc., but I have to admit that it's catchy as hell. Anyway, here's an acoustic version of Love Drunk. If you want something less upbeat and more emotionally charged try Puressence , Smashing Pumpkins or even Radiohead . Satisfied? Boys Like Girls - Love Drunk (Acoustic) Puressence - All I Want (Acoustic) Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm (Acoustic) [...]

Puressence is a rock band from Manchester featuring James Mudriczki (vocals), Lowell Killen (guitar), Kevin Matthews (bass guitar) and Tony Szuminski (drums/percussion). The melodic Mancunians first emerged in 1992, having played a series of gigs at Manchester's In The City festival. After a handful of singles, they released their absolutely amazing self-titled debut album (1996) which unfortunately failed to chart. Three more albums followed ( Only Forever , Planet Helpless , Don't Forget To Remember ) with each one of them gathering more attention from the media. However, this highly underrated band remains largely unknown [...]

Puressence . Ώρα [...]

Formed in 1991 by James Mudriczki, Neil McDonald, Anthony Szuminski and Kevin Matthews, the band released their debut single 'Siamese' through Rough Trade in 1992. Two EPs followed, before the release of the band's debut, self-titled album on Island Records in April 1996. 'Puressence' received rave reviews, yet neither it nor its singles, 'I Suppose', 'Fire', 'India', 'Traffic Jam In Memory Lane' and 'Casting Lazy Shadows', managed to chart. A shift in sound and mood was noticeable on the band's sophomore effort, 'Only Forever', and for a moment it seemed that this would result in chart success, as [...]

Toronto - The first few months of any year is usually weak for music as everyone has already rushed out to put their releases for Christmas season. With this musical drought, I decided to once again hop aboard my Delorean and take a trip back in time...back to the times when music were not obtained by things like Bittorrents or rapidshare, but by things like the kindness of strangers, IRC and IRC bots. Yes, we have journeyed back to 1999. Like I've said before, efnet, #mp3uk circa 1999-2002 was where I developed most of my music listening habits and today [...]

To balance out last week's rather happy-go-lucky mix, I decided to swing down into the depths of despair this week. And honestly, the first thing that came to mind when I thought of self-indulgent gloom was...Beetlejuice's Prince Vince of the Neitherworld. For those of you that remember the old Beetlejuice animated television series, you'll probably recall the episode in which Beetlejuice and Lydia meet Prince Vince, a monarch so gloomy that a cloud of rain follows him everywhere he goes. He does a lot of moaning and sighing, hand drawn dramatically across his pointy brow. And I absolutely [...]

It may still be winter where I live (though it's getting slushier everyday), but I felt like making a mix of mellow music that would be suitable for spring. As much as I do appreciate and revel in gloom and melancholy gray skies, I have always liked spring because it is the perfect temperature - not freezing cold and not blazing hot, which are the main options when you live in the centre of Canada. I'm also a pretty big fan of autumn because of the similar moderate temperature and the vibrant colours of leaves before they fall to the [...]

I'm pretty sure it was Puressence who graffittied their name all over Manchester city centre before they were signed. This didn't endear me to them and nor did their first album, although I would probably hear something good in it if I listened again now. I thought their second album Only Forever was great and should have made them one of the line of massive British bands that ran Radiohead, The Verve, Manic Street Preachers, Travis, Stereophonics, Coldplay etc. James Mudrickzi has a really excellent [...]
