On Friday night, Dirty Projectors and Purity Ring played the Danforth Music Hall. Both bands brought with them a collection of soon-to-be-released songs to delight their fans with. Purity Ring To say that I was excited to see Purity Ring open for Dirty Projectors after missing their NXNE set would be an understatement. Fortunately, the band delivered on all fronts. In addition to playing their four well-received singles, the duo showcased songs from their upcoming full-length debut, Shines . The quality of their material is solid throughout, [...]

Purity Ring - Fineshrine Purity Ring - Belispeak Eclectronic-pop darlings Purity Ring have crafted a gem of a full length with their upcoming Shrines LP - and its got everything yer little hearts might desire (no matter who you are), including a staggering amount of weirdo beat combinations and wonky, off-kilter tempo changes usually reserved for, and found on, less accessible-ish concept albums by lonely bedroom producers ( not pointing the finger at anyone in particular, just so [...]

In three weeks Canadian electronic duo Purity Ring are set to release their debut album, Shrines. You should have already heard a plethora of tracks from the record but if you haven't go here . The latest of those is the impressively contained 'Fineshrine', again highlighting the bands penchant for combining dark metaphors with emotionally glitchy funereal hope. On this occasion Megan James again accentuates her frailty and implores said someone to [...]
Summer is finally upon us! It seems almost everyone far and wide is caught in a nasty heat wave. Now that the season is in full swing, it's time to grab the coldest of beers, put on some sunscreen, toss on some killer jams and make the most of all of the sunshine. Of all the mixes we've made up to this point, I think all four of us can agree that this is the one we're the most pleased about. It seems the warmer it gets the that the tracks just get better and better. Make [...]

Yin and Yang. Which is the dark half? I find the emotions that most of us suppress to be the most interesting. Everyone can put on a shitty smile and act happy all the time, but that’s not real. Worst of it all, social media is a non-stop barrage of inspirational quotes, “life is great”, and fake positivity. You want to convince me your life is fantastic? Don’t tell me about it. Otherwise you’re just one of the rest of us, filling a giant hole with anything you can. The truth is, I am not a happy person all the [...]
Summer is in full swing, and if you haven't melted yet, you're probably looking forward to getting hold of some of the surfeit of new music that's being released over the next month. In all honesty, July is shaping up as something of a strange month for music — lots of album releases, but not a whole heap of really, really exciting ones. But happily, we're here to help — we've sorted the wheat from the chaff, the diamonds from the rough, the sheep from the goats, and all that. And so after the jump we've selected what we reckon are [...]

[ A few cool new tunes that have come across our radar...] Waters , "If Only" — Although released separately from the album "Out in the Light," which came out last year on TBD, Van Pierszalowski (formerly of Port O'Brien) offers another song he recorded during the same session. Bursting with psychedelic-pop riffs in the midst of deliriously fuzzy soundscape, it's hard to believe he left it off the record. Also, grab "Take Me Out to the Coast." Waters is [...]

HAPPY CANADA DAY!! Hope you are enjoying your long weekend? Well here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending July 1 - 7. There is no move with this week's #1 single. Still goes to Ottawa's Silkken Laumann with their dancey track "House Of Common Problems! This being Canada Day Weekend, why not listen to this track and start dancing. There are new debuts from A Place To Bury Strangers and Sic Alps. Check it out. [...]

As far as new music releases go, June has been probably one of the strangest months of the year so far. Not necessarily bad just different and this months Certified New will vouch for that. continue reading >>

Fresh from Barcelona and the madness that was Primavera Sound , I didn't have any downtown between gigs after touching down in London. I missed Purity Ring 's set during the festival so it was imperative that I see their sold out White Heat Club gig at Madame Jojo's in London. I spent the early evening catching up with friends at the metal dive Crobar before hopping over to the venue, dragging friends along who hadn't heard of the band. The duo played material from their amazing July 24th [...]

by teepoo All the NXNE posts are done, so finally back to regular posts! Since I haven't done a chart in a while, this one includes the most popular songs of the last few weeks. It also gave consideration to song plays within the NXNE posts. Hope you guys discover something new! Position Last Song Link 1 - Mother Mother- Forever and [...]

I featured something from Purity Ring not too long ago. Here's another track off their upcoming album, Shrines (7/24), that I'm relatively certain you're going to enjoy. Great female vocals are complimented by some unique production. I like the use of echoes and reverb to make the song sound extremely deep. Check out that album, and make sure to keep tabs on MTIB, we have plenty of cool content coming soon! Peace. MP3 | Purity Ring - "Fineshrine" | Support The Artist -Deuce

We have covered Purity Ring in the past, but holy sh*t this song is gorgeous. What makes these songs so intriguing is Megan James superimposing such grotesque and visual lyrics over pretty, loopy beats. "Cut open my sternum, and pull," ... just epic epincness everywhere. Purity Rings release their debut album on 7/24. Do the right thing and pre-order the album here .

It's been nearly a year and a half since I first introduced Purity Ring and their burner "Ungirthed." The intervening months have been quite eventful for the boy-girl duo, what with signing to 4AD and headliner slots at large festivals amongst the highlights. Garnering comparisons to another male female duo in Sleigh Bells, whose buzz outweighed the actual quality of music being produced, some backlash has surfaced. Attaining a level of success so quickly with just a few songs to their name has bred some divergent opinions regarding the outfit and what they've "earned". I don't care what slot they [...]
