Frank Yang There's a point in the arc of the breakout band where long-time fans who've supported and encouraged the artist through those early days find themselves in the odd position of rubbing elbows not with the faithful but newbs and tourists, interested not in hearing the songs that soundtracked crucial points in their life but that one tune they heard on the radio. For fans of Vancouver duo Japandroids , that time has come and for those in Toronto, that specific moment was Saturday night where on the strength of their second album [...]
"Belispeak" is the second single (and debut music video) released from Canada's electronic duo known as Purity Ring. Their debut LP, Shrines, is due out July 24 via 4AD. If you haven't already, listen to the album's first single, "Obedear." Website // Facebook Page (Submitted by Chase)

It's our first mixtape of summer! Accordingly, you should probably just act first and think later and just download it with reckless abandon, as you should do absolutely everything now that it is the season of impulsive behavior. But if you are incapable of such youthful indiscretion without examining the fine print/weighing every possible life consequence, then a) we have a lot in common and b) this mixtape will still please. It opens with Cat Power, so already, pretty good. It also features bona fide summer jams like "Pyramids" by Frank Ocean and "Fineshrine" by Purity Ring, alongside recently released [...]

We'll admit that this year, we're just a little overly-invested in the battle for "song of the summer." It's partially because we hate how damn catchy Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know," one major contender for the #1 spot, is, partially because the song it's going toe-to-toe with, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," is legitimately amazing, and partially because we're unable to get the incredibleness of jj's new High Summer EP out of our heads. Now, we know what you're thinking: there's no way the dreamy electronic pop of Swedish duo jj's going to end up [...]

Purity Ring are another Canadian act making waves, floating the future beat/dubstep sway to the surface of the alternative music world. A life-raft of credibility for modern pop music to cling to. "Fineshrine" possesses a spacious, beaming euphoria that could easily fill a stadium. The vocal reminds me a little of Metric. A friend recently showed me the track "Obedear" which I think is the stand out so far. • PURITY RING [FB] • ALT. DOWNLOAD | Purity Ring - Fineshrine [via Pitchfork] [...]
(Landon Speers) The past week's music offerings have been dominated by electronic blips and bleeps, a trend that's continuing this week with new music from Montreal/Halifax duo Purity Ring . The band came to my attention last year when they released a split 73 single with the lovely Braids, soon garnering attention from a lot of other media hubs for their frothy mix of hip-hop beats, electro-vibes, and dreamy-pop pleasures. "Fineshrine" was debuted over on Exclaim.ca last week, providing a sample of what we can expect from Purity Ring's [...]
Prior to the announcement of their debut full-length, Shrines , Montreal-based electro-pop act Purity Ring generated tons of buzz through only three released songs. But for the duo comprised of vocalist Megan James and programmer/producer Corin Roddick, what they had in material proved to be enough, landing a record deal with 4AD/Last Gang Records to put forth their record on July 24th. We’ve already heard the first single “Obedear” back in April and released a video for a re-worked “Belispeak.” Now they’ve released another single entitled “Fineshrine” (by now, you should’ve noticed that their song titles [...]

Purity Ring is not a band I expected myself to like but now, for whatever reason, I can't get enough of the entrancing singles they've released over the past few months. They've built a nice momentum leading up to their debut album, Shrines , to be released on July 24 through 4 AD/Last Gang. "Fineshrine" is the lastest of the singles they've released which does a fine job showcasing singer, Megan James' vocals against the backdrop of some dark electro-pop. Purity Ring - Fineshrine [...]

Sorry for not having chart #113 due to being at NXNE last week. But here is this weeks and last week's music singles chart. Chart #113 - Young Galaxy was still #1 and one new debut with Ottawa's The Love Machine. On this week's chart for the week ending June 24 - 30. We have a new #1 and with summer already starting. Why not get your dancing shoes on with this song by Ottawa's Silkken Laumann. Even the music video will want to make you dance. There are new debuts from Stars, [...]

Nice for the Saturday eve playings, the PURITY RING 's newest LP, SHRINES , has just leaked.
Purity Ring, the electro-dream-pop duo of Corin Roddick and Megan James are releasing their début album Shrines on July 24. The band has released their second track from the album titled Fineshrine, having previously released their track Obedear. Both tracks are very well produced and highlight the beautiful vocals of Megan James. Have a listen to [...]

It's Friday, and we're back with another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. This week, there's a new Cat Power track (yay!), a new/old John Maus track (YAY!), a taste the new album from Purity Ring (definite yay!), more Clams Casinos instrumentals, another Peaking Lights mixtape, and a shitload of other tracks that definitely warrant various connotations of the word "yay." In other words, there's plenty of interesting sounds awaiting you after the jump, and since they won’t cost a penny or land you an RIAA lawsuit, as your attorneys we advise you [...]

Here's an airy new track from the rising electronic group Purity Ring. They have had numerous songs blowing up the blogosphere in the past couple months, but i would be hard pressed to say this is one of our favorites. Their new song Fineshrine is one unique piece of work. It sounds like a mix between 802s pop and modern electronic drumstep. It's safe to say they've done it again. Check it out and download here! "Get a little closer, let fold / Cut open my sternum, and pull." It's not exactly your classic lyrical hook, but Megan James takes the macabre and turns it on its head, injecting light into the dark, warmth into the frigid. The result is a tune that uses the abject as its play thing, evoking the brevity that can be found even in moments of pain. "Fineshrine" is Purity Ring's best track to date; it's wildly catchy and endearingly strange - a successful balancing act in both a sonic and thematic sense. [...]
