The three women of Purple Rhinestone Eagle don't get nearly the amount of ink they deserve. PRE is a steam (rock 'n') rolling machine. And while their latest LP The Great Return includes plenty of sludge-caked riffery, there are some incredible spacey moments (resin-caked spliffery?) like on "Scorpio Moon" (see below). Live, the band is simply jaw-dropping (again, see below). And check out the TDoL interview with PRE from last year . Purple Rhinestone Eagle just returned home to Portland from a tour of Europe, and with them brought some video documentation of [...]
Those of you who missed last night's Purple Rhinestone Eagle show, I feel sorry for ya. Their set was thunderous, loud and fucking awesome. Their myspace really doesnt do them justice. I've said this before - you haveta see them live. If anyone took a picture of me trying to do a split-kick when they were opening their set, please email it to me. People who hadn't seen Cissy before were totally blown away: "Dude, they were awesome!" Claire from The Horn The Hunt had a bit of a sore throat but their [...]

(Note: Moved next door to the Summit)

If you're not familiar, Purple Rhinestone Eagle is a band of three girls who play heavy, fuzzed out psychedelic rock and are based in Portland, Oregon. BUT lucky for us, they're on tour! Mystical, magical, historical, current, and futuristic...Purple Rhinestone Eagle are the kind of band I'm pretty sure I could become obsessed with. Great musicianship, AMAZING voice, lyrics that are abstract enough and emotional enough. Great stuff! If you are in Chicago you can check them out tomorrow night, and check out a song and the rest of the U.S. tour dates below! [...]
When was the last time I featured an AWESOME diy band? It's been ages. I need to get back into that. Anyway, a mate I know is currently managing the UK leg of Purple Rhinestone Eagle 's tour between 21st to 28th September and is kinda looking for help to book shows. Who the hell is Purple Rhinestone Eagle? It's a queer, diy, rock-n-roll psychadelic-punk band coming outta Portland and they're comin to lovely Britain. They're definitely a band to be seen live: expect big, trippy, chaotic riffs, straight to the point durgy rock out sessions from [...]

This track, from Purple Rhinestone Eagle's new 7-inch, is something a little different for the band. Everything on "Don't Want You" seems to be both sped up and turned up—which is perhaps a bit more reflective of PRE's live show than past recordings have been. Where much of Purple Rhinestone Eagle's 2009 Amorum Tali EP reminded of Sabbath and the heavier side of the Doors repertoire (infused, of course, with a heavy dose of punk spirit), "Don't Want You" feels like a heavier Dead Moon cut or an early Butthole Surfers b-side (all that's missing [...]

Seems like it was only yesterday that I was cobbling together the TDoL best of 2008 . Yes, time flies when you're old and surly. And, yes, I know year-end lists are everywhere, cliché, overdone and a dime a dozen-but I do love them so. These lists are difficult to make, too. I mean who has time to really absorb a full record when you're being bombarded with hundreds of albums and mp3s? It was chore to make a list that exorcised both my discerning (wax-clogged) ear and my (beer-besotted) gut-the "I can see what this artist [...]

It was a few years ago while doing an article on Portland's New Bloods that I stumbled upon Purple Rhinestone Eagle . The name was enough. And the music ... sort of this doom-y Sabbath-meets- Love love-fest led by a lanky guitarist who channeled Hendrix and Blackmore provided the final blow. I was also intrigued by this tight-knit community of musicians made up of women who celebrated diversity and sexual freedom with the DIY spirit of punk rock in a city that, while liberal, is still 95 percent white. Purple Rhinestone Eagle-guitarist/vocalist Andrea Genevieve , [...]

ROCK AND ROLL TOUR STYLE [Local! Music! Friday!] ! Tell me...what is this Local Music Fridays? Tour , besides being a total blast, also gave me so much new fodder for L!M!F!s , since we played so many shows with such a wide array of Interesting and Talented Bands (and of course, some shows with some not-so-I&TBs, but hey—you win some, you lose some). Our West Philly show was one [...]
