What happens when you mix together Dirty on Purpose and Au Revoir Simone ? You get Pursesnatchers . Doug Marvin of Dirty on Purpose and his wife Annie Hart of Au Revoir Simone home-recorded the album To Feet of Snow . They then recruited their friends Jared Barron and Harold Liu to round out the lineup and started playing out. The band is set to release its first album as a full band, A Pattern Language via the Uninhabitable Mansion collective on July 19. [...]

MP3 : Baseball on the Radio I was big fans of Dirty on Purpose back in the day. I helped book a few of their shows and they stayed in our house in Columbus a few times while they were on tour. When they broke up, I was sad. No joke. But now here we are, with a new album from DoP alum Doug Marvin's new band Pursesnatchers which also features his wife, Au Revoire Simone's Annie Hart. Jared Barron and Harold Liu are in the band, too. If this first song is [...]

The names of Dirty on Purpose and Au Revoire Simone take us back to the very early Deli years - we covered both bands in print and online somewhere around 2005. ARS also played a rather legendary (at least for us) Deli show at Pete's Candy Store (capacity... 30 people maybe?) before they started filling up Japanese arenas. But why are we saying this - you ask? Because we just learned that Doug Marvin from Dirty Projector and Annie Hart from Au Revoir Simone not only are married, but they also have a new musical project called [...]

It's always been my contention (And I'm sure others would concur), that the perfect three-to-four minute pop song doesn't need an explanation. One needn't study the lyrics, chart its chord progressions, or burrow into its back story. All the proof you need occurs during the first impression, the second the sound meets your ears. Such is the case with "Certain Famous Covered Bridges," the latest single by the Brooklyn husband-wife duo of Doug Marvin ( Dirty on Purpose, Black Acid, and Neckbeard Telecaster) and Annie Hart (Au Revoir Simone), collectively known as Pursesnatchers. They freely [...]

Tristen @ Cameo First, we must thank long-time friend of Stark, Karp, for all the fabulous photos taken at the Showcase. The evening began in the Loving Cup Cafe which is attached through a series of speakeasy-esque narrow hallways to the main venue Cameo. We Starkians dined on some fabulous Loving Cup cuisine including pulled pork and massive fritatas before the festivities. A few Side Cars later, we realized it was 8:30 and time to get Tristen on stage. Tristen (8:30 pm): There was a pre-show buzz circulating [...]

Sweet, cute and local. Tell me...what is this Local Music Fridays? We had the pleasure of playing with these guys at Death by Audio when we were on tour. They were great! The band Pursesnatchers doesn't much seem like they'd snatch your purse. In fact, we stacked our equipment up next to theirs for hours that night and they didn't snatch any of our guitars or amps or other stuff. Although, come to [...]

Does Julie Doiron have a Twitter account? Her willingness to share anything - and everything - as it comes to mind suggests that she'd be good for generating entertaining content at least every five minutes. After all, that was about the regular duration between onstage monologues at Union Hall on Saturday night, her hilarious, introspective, observational and bizarrely meandering ramblings only interrupted and upstaged by - gasp - the actual songs themselves. This is because, well, the songs are pretty great. Stacking the set early with selections from her latest album, the outstanding [...]

A good Cure cover?? Not an easy thing to find. Well, let me tell you, there is at least one worth listening to on Perfect as Cats: A Tribute to The Cure (which came out last year). It is by The Muslims d/b/a The Soft Pack . It is pretty faithful, methinks. Downloadable: "Grinding Halt (Cure Cover)" (box.net mp3) Streamable: "Grinding Halt (Live Melkweg 1979)" (youtube) Kemado page is here . 1928 Recordings is here . Sweet Tooth Records [...]

Oof. In some horrible news for the morning, Dirty On Purpose announced that have decided to call it quits, though, at least in their sendoff: We're all still buddies and live in the same town, so we reserve the right to change our minds and get back together in six months if we feel like it. they leave the possibility open that there may be a sequel like so many Hollywood blockbusters with holes in the endings. I take some solace in the fact that they [...]

Our friend Jinners runs On The Moon Music, a management company loaded with great artists, and she's throwing an unoffical CMJ showcase Thursday night at Death By Audio in Crooklyn. Did I mention free beer? I'll be getting there early to catch Purse Snatchers, featuring Doug Marvin from Dirty on Purpose and Annie Hart of Au Revoir Simone. And chances are that some of that free beer will be airborne once Cheeseburger hits the stage... Purse Snatchers - "Tongue Twister" mp3 [...]
