With another major festival now in the books , its time to start gearing up for some of the summer's later events, highlight of course by Lollapalooza (and its recently revealed schedule) and Austin City Limits. In an effort to recap all the latest goings on in the world of U.S. music festivals and catch the Bonnarooers up on all of last week's news, how about another edition of Consequence of Sound's Festival Outlook? This weekend, the second annual Popped! Music Festival will go down in lovely Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [...]

After a brief stint in Brooklyn, FRICTION returns to the borough that gave the monthly series birth with its first show at the recently-turned-three, Cake Shop. Playing their unique brand of gloomy, yet catchy and upbeat surf-inspired tunes, Brooklyn's Crystal Stilts headline this show, supported by fellow Brooklynites and Paw Tracks signees, Rings , along with PWRFL Power , who recently made the move to the popular borough from Seattle, where he swooned many a heart. Philadelphia's mysterious Tickley Feather rounds out the lineup, bringing her lo-fi blend of psychy bedroom pop [...]
Who: The Ruby Suns When: July 29th + 30th Where: Music Hall of Williamsburg + Bowery Ballroom More Dates Listen: The Ruby Suns - "There Are Birds" Thoughts: Seeing The Ruby Suns a few weeks ago at Union Hall was one of the live highlights of the year so far for me. It's awesome news that these Kiwis are coming back so soon, but even better news (for me) is that I'll get to see them at the

A short but sweet post on a lovely discovery, Japan's Kat Nomura AKA PWRFL POWER is a singer songwriter who : "is extremely casual and hilariously matter-of-fact as he sings, delightfully off-key, about girls, drugs, and self-acceptance ."

Almost forgot! PWRFL Power Kaz is back in NYC once again. He's got a few shows here, and then he's off for 2 weeks along the West Coast ( dates ). Kaz plays Sound Fix in Brooklyn tonight, and Cake Shop next Tuesday, 4/1. ::: PWRFL Power - Alma Song ::: We've got just a small number of the Catbird PWRFL Power EPs remaining, and while I'm mentioning that, I should tell you that the new Air Waves EP is going like [...]

Last summer, I got turned on to Seattle's Kaz Nomura, aka PWRFL Power . Since that time, he's: Won the Seattle Capitol Hill "Block Star" contest Played the Capitol Hill Block Party Main Stage Thoroughly charmed most of Seattle (and a good portion of the US during his unending tour ) Starred in an eSurance commercial (WTF, I know) Put together a full-length album that's out soon on Slender Means / Aagoo Gotten compliments from M.I.A., who came [...]
" PWRFL Power's Kazutaka Nomura doesn't especially care for pop conventions", and that attitude usually leads to interesting and challenging music. However, Kaz has managed to create an album that is artistically appealing and lyrically challenging, but essentially folk music. Born to an architect and a calligrapher in Hokkaido, Japan in 1984, Kaz began studying Classical and Jazz guitar at the age of 13--moving to Seattle at 18 to study musical composition. His guitar playing is a unique blend of folk and classical and quite pleasing. Just remember... "It's okay to be yourself!" Listen to [...]

PWRFL Power's Kazutaka Nomura was born to an architect and a calligrapher in Hokkaido, Japan in 1984. Kaz began studying Classical and Jazz guitar at the age of 13--moving to Seattle at 18 to study musical composition. Shortly after his arrival, the diminutive and charismatic Nomura co-founded the city-conquering, genre-defying free-improv trio Na--who, before their residency-related demise in 2006, self-released over 40 recordings. Can't wait to hear the entire record to get a more accurate sense of things, but until then, there is some media below. audio: Its Okay.mp3 [...]

HEADS UP PWRFL Power @ OPEN, Long Beach (Matinee show) Sun 3/16 PWRFL Power @ pehrspace Sun 3/16 PWRFL Power @ Relax Bar Mon 3/17 With the lupine-derived indie band nomenclature trend hopefully sailing off into the sunset in 2008 (Attn. Sea Wolf: You're the last one on the bandwagon, it is your duty to kick off any hop-ons ), we are perhaps on the cusp of the latest trend of band names that drop vowels. Following-at least halfway-in the path of [...]

Blue Noses - Saddam Alive #4 (2007) PWRFL Power's Kazutaka Nomura gives the most unconvincing reason to be yourself, because it feels good . That's like being nice to someone so they'll share their chocolate milk. Though it often seems to me like your powerful powers can make a larger impact than making your life easy, that may be confusing simplicity for the need to be taught. [...]
Girl Talk will make Seattle groove on Friday night photo by Tom Purves The Capitol Hill Block Party is what's happening this weekend! Consult your schedule , pack your sunscreen (remember, severe sunburn can occur even with overcast skies!), and head up to the Hill to catch an incredible lineup of local and national performers like Silversun Pickups , Spoon , John Vanderslice , Aesop Rock , Girl Talk , Blue Scholars , [...]
...SPEAKING OF 'je ne sais quoi'... of late, I've been quite taken with the acoustimological guitaristical quirkipop of young Mr. Kaz Nomura, code name: PWRFL POWER . He's a Japan -> Seattle emigre, armed with an acoustic guitar, an easy charm, and some kind of brilliantly awkward / awkwardly brilliant, silly genius. ::: PWRFL POWER - It's Okay ::: ::: PWRFL POWER - Tomato Song ::: You can get to know Kaz even better via his videos: [...]
While the music industry tries to grab harder on the wet, breaking branch of its current royalty system, artists are seeking ways to strengthen their grip on their own careers. Like it or not, the music labels are losing the hold they once had. Whether the issue is deciding who pays (and how much) for song royalties, who controls album distribution, or who's allowed to see live music, record labels, distributors, artists and fans are still trying to figure out what end of the stick they're holding. Most recently, the artist currently known as Prince is [...]
