Welcome to the second installment of the Musical Pairings "history of pop music" series. As I mentioned with the first installment ( chillwave ), I plan to make this an ongoing series exploring the history of pop music. I plan to research various genres and sub-genres of pop music throughout modern history and summarize what I learn. These will tend to be relatively longer posts, so if you are not interested in reading about the history of pop music - you may just want to skip ahead to the mix at the bottom of the post. [...]

This one took longer than I wanted but it's a more diverse Top-10 than I've been conjuring up lately. Whoo-hoo! My Top-10 has never been visually accompanied by such a next-level image! The Album of the Week #12 , Utmarken , truly has to be heard to be believed, so if nothing else make sure you check that out, courtesy of Release The Bats Records. Here's the list in case you can't see it RIGHT OVER THERE --> [...]

Super killer show tonight at some new joint called The Pyramids. These are some of my favorite local bands and they will kick your ass tonight. Unfortunately I can't make it due to several birthday parties. But go have fun and let me know how it is.Here's Gunfight playing the NY Underbelly / Brooklyn Ski Club show

A couple of weeks ago, we went to New Orleans for a friend's wedding. We had a chance to see the World War II museum and the fancy new wing that Tom Hanks helped contribute with and the new theater much cooler than an Imax (it's in 4D!). The picture from above is taken from the museum, and before the trip, I had no idea there was a WWII museum. I guess Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are teaming up again to retell the story of the US invading the Pacific during [...]
by Andrew Wilhelm (Denver)Listen: Pyramids with Nadja - S/T [Stream]Denton, Texas' Pyramids and Toronto's Nadja are both often accurately described as "lush," though the bands arrive at that point through entirely different vessels. Pyramids, drawing heavily from dream pop, are more concise with their songs. They also experiment with electronic elements and some rather Transilvanian Hunger-like
(photo by Sarah Cass) Portland tape-loops-and-indie-rock act Pyramid used to just be called Starfucker, but now, well, they're Pyramid and they've just dropped their first UK single "Medicine" via Rough Trade shops this week and the video for the track,...

Pyramids With Nadja - An Angel Was Heard To Cry Over The City Of Rome You know Pyramids . You know Nadja . You know I'm a freak for both of them. I had stupidly high expectations for this collaboration. And this is the first time ever, EVER, that my expectations for a supposed-to-be-awesome collab have been met. IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME. This is an album of epic beauty, a majestic world crumbling, a dark [...]

Mission of Burma The Sound The Speed The Light Matador Exhibiting the rawness and aggression of a band half their age, Mission of Burma's third post-reunion album, The Sound, The Speed, The Light, has more in common with the early-to-mid '80s output of this seminal Boston post-punk band than with either of the two albums which directly preceded it. "1, 2, 3 Partyy!" and "Good Cheer" are as bold, direct and anthemic as any of their classic cuts, including "Academy Fight Song," "This Is Not a Photograph," and "That's How I [...]
In what was probably one of the best 'fuck' names in the music industry, along wit Holy Fuck!, Fucked Up, Tommy Fuck and the Motherfuckers (I made the last one up), Starfucker have announced that they have decided to change their name to Pyramid. The new name comes from a... Click the link to read more

UPDATE: So Starfucker passed on my "Moonfucker" suggestion and went with PYRAMID. Oh well. Hopefully this band from Spain doesn't get pissed... See our reviews of Starfucker… Nachbar Review and Mercury Lounge Review (NYC) Continue reading Starfucker is now PYRAMID at Backseat Sandbar .

So MOKB loves Starfucker , but they have apparently changed their name to Pyramid . Booooo! Discuss. (photo cred : Joshua Bean @ Melophobe ) MP3 : Starfucker - German Love MP3 : Starfucker - Florida MP3 : Starfucker - Medicine [...]

MP3: Pyramid - "Pop Song"
Is this newsworthy? To me it is. . Was perusing the ol' myspace and stumbled upon this little nugget: Starfucker is now Pyramid . Most likely. I like it, although it does evoke a decidedly different emotion and image than its predecessor. 'Starfucker' is a [high voice] happy, fun, carefree hot mess, where 'Pyramid' is a [low voice] giant behemoth of impending wonder and icey intrigue. The rainbow pyramid is a nice compromise, though. . [...]
