The buzz around Frank Ocean before Channel Orange was unhurried and casual, with a sense of expectancy in the wake of his debut LP “Nostalgia Ultra”, though he was essentially still only known as the emotional grounding in the “Odd Future” Collective. It was “that” Tumblr post that changed everything, as Ocean’s divulgence of sexuality two weeks before release automatically placed the record under the spotlight; it’s interpretable lyrics becoming one of the many aspects that make this record unmatched by it’s peers, innovative in a previously lyrically restrictive genre. Channel Orange [...]

The Palenque ruins date back to 226 BC and have been absorbed by the jungle. Truly one of the greatest archaeological sites that still exist in this world.
Above is a muddied amalgam of the artwork to each of our freshly completed Tracks of 2012 rundown , dubiously fangled on a newly acquired and equally dodgy copy of Photoshop, and below is our ongoing attempt to grapple with the finer intricacies of musical technologies. It's the first, and could well be the last Spotify playlist I ever so painstakingly compile, and it features our every entry (or rather the 28 that, at the time of writing, were hooked up to their mainframe, or whatever the correct technical term would be for that). That our topspot is in [...]

This masterful image of the rare and endangered Tardgiraffe came from here . I have decided that each week we are going to collectively support a certain artist by buying their music. This week we are going to support Tame Impala . Have a nice weekend guys and don't forget to finish your Christmas shopping . In wuchtigen Namen bedeutet das: Beak>, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosions, Jens Lekman, Efterklang, Grouper, Lucky Dragons, DJ Marcelle, Ravens&Chimes, Mir, Feldermelder feat. Grégoire Quartier, Kalabrese, L`Enfance Rouge feat. Eugene S. Robinson (Oxbow), Sounds like a Movie, Oy, [...]

I have toyed around with various kinds of potential ways to get all of the music I receive out. I believe that whether I love it or hate it, someone put their bones and soul into it and it deserves to be heard. Some time back I started Shorthanded Goals, a monthly sampling of 12 free MP32s that I received that month. As I have stated in those posts though, I could easily do this multiple times a month...so I believe along with Shorthanded Goals I'm gonna begin a new feature titled Free For All. Free For [...]
Photography: Nuno Serrão It feels good to be posting Pyramid again. Pyramid - Black Road Lifelike - Getting High (Pyramid Remix)
On "Black Road" , French electronic outfit Pyramid is drawing a picture with frequencies. The track itself feels geometric maybe even mathematical. With a crisp, digital sound (particularly in the high-mids to highs) Pyramid build and release in a way that that holds very true to their name. Music Player: [...]

In this, the first instalment of Dots & Dashes' Tracks of 2012, we initiate the rundown from forty through one, vicariously reliving the glory days of TOTP, rampaged Woolworths racks of any given Monday morn, and so forth. Novelty Christmas number ones and such. Though as we approach the season to be jolly – blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah – here begins our catalogue of tracks to have made the year that was, and most certainly still is 2012, commensurately merry. Comprising odes to toddlers, strippers and charlatans alike, numbers 31 through 40 take [...]
The Pyramids are that crazy stunt band that tries all kinds of tricks so you never have to. The Pyramids have not had an album in 35 years. There's no use in finding out what the delay was because they are on a roll. Their 2007 reunion and subsequent tour was an unexpected success and they decided to take the good times to the studio. They have emerged with the double album (if you are a vinyl customer) Otherwordly, an effort positively stuffed with funky vamps, hollers, peace mongering and more than enough...

Let this slow, funky tune help you digest those leftovers. Enjoy. Pyramid - Black Road (320 kbps)

Serious head noddin' Beatz dropping from Frank Ocean; riffin' about strippin'.

Jason James & Rodney Hazard- Pyramids In Stereo dropping November 28th 2012. Listen: http://www.djbooth.net/index/a lbums/review/jason-james-pyram ids-in-stereo This Is My Rifle, the inaugural single release off Jason James and Rodney Hazard‘s new project, was a cold shower of political reality after the steaming sh*tstorm that was the 2012 Presidential campaign. After force-feeding listeners the proverbial “red pill,” the Vancouver rhymesayer would be remiss if he didn’t face up to the comfortable illusions behind his own hustle. On Forgetting How to Dream, the second world premiere off his and his [...]

Since his debut with the timeless Modus Operandi in 1997, Rupert Parkes, better known as Photek , has released three full-length albums. Now, considering the quality of his work, it’s not exactly fair to use the word “only” in this context. We could name a number of noteworthy artists who have been around for just as long and have offered significantly more output than Parkes. However, very few have come forth with a consistently similar level of excellence. Photek is widely known for his gift for drum programming. As Factmag [...]

Mamiffer / Pyramids by Mamiffer / Pyramids Mamiffer and Pyramids come together for some for a split 12, featuring some pretty heady and dark noise, drones, and experimental musings. This, sadly, will be one of the final releases of the soon-to-be-disbanded Hydra Head records. / via /

Initial impression: Stunned. As I slipped the headphones over my ears, the sensations were already pouring out of the stereo, and I felt myself slipping, slowly and generously into Pyramid 's rendition of what was an electro/funk vortex. The original version feels a little like a scene out of Scarface, somewhere between a leisure suit and a pile of cocaine. It's awesomely energetic and features an undeniable beat-drop-build-up. Lifelike and Popular Computer each craft their own special blends of electronic and club music. Lifelike is rowdy and bouncy, Popular Computer is old school smooth and Pyramid completes the French trifecta with [...]
A few days late posting this video, yes. But who cares, its worth putting up a few days after the initial hype. Just think of me as the person who walks in the party late with an epic entrance. Yeah, I'm totally that guy.
