PYYRAMIDS have put together an album of dark, soulful rock with compelling melodies, off-kilter beats, and subtle electronic touches. Maybe not something you'd expect from one of the guys in OKGo. PYYRAMIDS is a duo made up of singer Drea Smith and OKGo bassist Tim Nordwind. He's the guy with the big glasses and beard who you might've mistaken for that band's singer if you just went by their videos. She's the vocalist for little-known and difficult-to-Google electro dance project He Say She Say. As PYYRAMIDS, both musicians are stepping outside of their respective comfort zones for an album [...]

A packed house came out of nowhere last night as the Satellite played host to Los Angeles based duo PYYRAMIDS , musical project of (OK Go's) Tim Nordwind and Drea Smith (formerly of He Say, She Say). PYYRAMIDS' latest musical offering "Brightest Darkest Day" is, as the name may suggest, a sweet-sour mix of grungy/moody 90's reminiscent rock buoyed by sultry-sweet highlights betraying what is, ultimately, a smart little pop album. I went in to the show wondering if they'd be able to match the oh-so-sharp production of their album – and I have to admit I was pleasantly [...]

Rather than being an undergraduate ouroboros of pretension (which is the failsafe for most indie rock and "alternative" music), Brightest Darkest Day is a full-length that manages to cultivate real emotion and real feeling. [...]
Not unlike its title, Pyyramids' debut album "Brightest Darkest Day" ducks from the shadows to the light and back to the shadows again, seemingly from song to song. The mix of gritty guitars, slippery effects and cool electro is the handiwork of OK Go's Tim Nordwind and singer Drea Smith (ex-He Say/She Say), who shows she can play sultry, vulnerable and playful, though never all at once. "Brightest Darkest Day," which was mixed by Dave Fridmann, recalls, at various points, the likes of Metric, Veruca Salt and Everything But the Girl — indeed, the raging chorus in "Paper [...]

After listening to Brightest Darkest Day , the debut album released this week by gritty electro-poppers PYYRAMIDS , watching a set at Mercury Lounge Wednesday night was an intriguing idea—mainly to see if their studio sound translated to a live setting well. Having to muck through a rainstorm during the tail end of rush hour in Manhattan was irksome, to say the least, so I was prepared to judge harshly. But I’m happy to report that the members of PYYRAMIDS—OK Go guitarist Tim Nordwind and He Say/She Say vocalist Drea Smith—have the chops and [...]

At 7 p.m. last night I was sitting in an Asian market in the East Village, eating udon noodles and drinking a Sapporo with a friend. We were planning to go to a show at Mercury Lounge—a band named PYYRAMIDS —but it started pouring. I didn’t have an umbrella and I thought about how nice it would be to just walk down the street, lie on the couch in my apartment, and watch some animal shows. Once my mind snaps to something like that, it’s usually a final decision. I was on the list for this show, but I [...]

Are you really here looking for vegan calf testicles? If so, sorry, I can't help you. There will be no vegan bull balls in this post. So why the title? Well, it is an entry about the best vegan food I enjoyed in the Rocky Mountains presented in little snip(pets) thus the oyster part. I know that since I have returned from Denver I have already done a number of posts referencing it (including this one, this one, and hey, look, another one). I promise that this is the last entry about the fine cuisine I enjoyed in the Mile High [...]
PYYRAMIDS (Tim Nordwind from OK Go and Drea Smith from He Say/She Say) just dropped their debut album, and now we've got a set of visuals for "Paper Doll." The group impressed with " Do You Think You're Enough ," and their album is an eclectic mix of rock and pop that shows their ability to write a good, catchy chorus and balance that out with some splashes of noise. Check out the new video above, and stream Brightest Darkest Day below.
Email friends-turned-bandmates' debut is a cornucopia of pop energy and spunk.

We were a few seconds from posting PYYRAMIDS' , single 'Paper Doll,' until realized their video for the track was released today. 'Paper Doll' screams early 90s alt-rock to us, think back to the day when MTV used to play Nirvana, SoundGarden, and Pearl Jam. Hopefully, PYYRAMIDS can be more than a side project of Tim Nordwind of OK Go and Drea Smith of the Chicago electro-pop duo He Say/She Say, and make a few albums together. When your done checking out the Ericka Clevenger directed clip below, head to Hypem.com to stream their debut [...]

Check out album releases for this week. So what's out this week (April 9th) in terms of music? Well, for this week, expect new album releases from James Blake, Dawes, The Knife, Neon...
Composed of OK Go's Tim Norwind and former He Say/She Say member Drea Smith, Los Angeles duo PYYRAMIDS have some dark, grimy things to work out on their debut LP, Brightest Darkest Day . These are wounds that they're excited to have the opportunity to pick at, sounds that wouldn't fit either of their more prominent acts. That said, elements of electro-rock and indie pop are ingrained into their music, at times making the grit endearing and at others backing away from it. After a brief intro, "Smoke and Mirrors" sets the scene, menacing fuzz, moaned backing vocals, [...]

PYYRAMIDS , the duo of Tim Nordwind from OK Go and Drea Smith from He Say/She Say, who impressed young Conny Con Con so much with the ragged but catchy " Do You Think You're Enough " are now streaming their debut album in full, in advance of its April 9 release date. With a Smith's vocals ranging from raw and aggressive to gentle and warm, and the instrumentation maintaining an exciting unpredictability, this is frayed-round the edges pop rock done well.
