A founding member of the hiphop/ jazz group A Tribe Called Quest, Q- Tip's musical career has expanded for well over 25 years. Even though reunions of the legendary hiphop group rarely occur, the hiphop aficionado has been keeping busy through collaborations with Mac Miller, Busta Rhymes, Roc Maciano, and more. According to Twitter, it seems that we may have to add another artist to his list of gold- fledged collaborations. Yesterday Q- Tip tweeted to the good kid m.A.A.d city rapper Kendrick Lamar: @ [...]

The latest in a long line of male/ female duo outfits unleashed in the past year to penetrate the blogosphere with a strong early buzz, Virginia duo Sunny & Gabe (vocalist/ writer Sunny Gicz and producer/ writer Gabe Niles ) quickly make their mark as an act to watch with the sound of their newest release "Clouds". A striking slab of hazed-over indie pop-soul that feels like something carved out of a daydream, "Clouds" features a whole lot of everything going on in its near-seven minute frame, but the track's blend of Gicz' gorgeous vocal [...]
I have a day and a half of this work week left as I took Friday afternoon off in honor of Chach's 28th birthday. Oh yeah, and we're using that afternoon to go see "The Great Gatsby" as well - WHOO! I've spent the night listening to the soundtrack (released yesterday) which is pretty epic (and watching the latest episode of "Nashville". GOOD EFFING LORD - Rayna and Deacon are breaking my heart). So, in between dealing with guys who want to wear me as a skin suit (the opening line, "Wanna make out?" doesn't work with me [...]

Listen to The Great Gatsby official soundtrack Features work from Florence + The Machine, Jay-Z, the xx, Beyoncé, André 3000, and many more.

Geezus, I'm a huge fan of Disclosure . I haven't felt this pumped up for an act's momentum since Azari & III. Prior to that, Renaissance Man. And even before that, Justice. So here we are with their latest garage house single featuring Eliza Doolittle . I'm not a music producing genius but they've featured a whole lot of female vocal talent as of late, of and Sam Smith for Latch. Maybe it's about time to find that one, perfect, complementary vocalist that can finally join the Disclosure duo. Just sayin'. As [...]

Why is Fergie on the Great Gatsby soundtrack you ask? Well, Jay-Z put her there. Jay's been in the news so much lately you could almost convince me it's 2001. At least this time it's for production of a huge dance track and not a trip to Cuba. This combination of old and new is quite the interesting one. Though I'm not surprised to find Q-Tip , A Tribe Called Quest alum, on this soundtrack, I am surprised to see him on a crazy upbeat track like this one. When I think Q, I [...]
When it was first announced that Jay-Z would be executive producing the soundtrack for The Great Gatsby , we knew big things were to follow. There's no way we could have ever expected this though. The tracklist alone was enough to get us salivating, but now we have a real sample with "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)." Featuring the odd trio of Fergie , Q-Tip and GoonRock , the dance floor ready number effectively merges jazz age sensibilities with modern flare. The song exemplifies what's already been exhibited [...]

New song from The Great Gatsby soundtrack "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" performed by Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock. Soundtrack drops May 7th. Movie opens May 10th. via RS

The first official track from The Great Gatsby soundtrack has dropped entitled “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” and it's the unlikely collaboration between Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock. Props to Fergie for turning her pop-ready vocals into some sultry, jazz era chops, even if they're juxtaposed against some club music elements and she dips back down into Black Eyed Peas talk-singing later on in the track. Overall this song seems like a good reflection of the movie so far—an attempt to marry old world sensibilities with the realities of 2013. Stream the [...]
I never imagined that I'd be posting music from GoonRock and Fergie on here, but here we are. You can blame Q-Tip , as we'll always share his latest tracks and he's featured somewhat prominently on "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)". To be fair to The Great Gatsby soundtrack cut, it does have some some slick saxophone elements and Tip sounds like he's having fun. But the majority of "A Little Party" is explosive synthesizers, hand claps, and everything else you'd imagine from a song with that title. Listen below. [...]

When writing about certain rappers, there are immediate qualities that are difficult not to point to in a description. There's the flow, the way the MC rides (or doesn't ride) the beat, and perhaps the most powerful element: his or her voice. While it's true that you could argue that most rappers have at the very least a "good" voice, there is a select group of MCs on another level entirely. And if you have read enough music magazines, blogs, and the like, you might have seen a writer state that he or she could listen to said rapper recite [...]
Filed under: Exclusive , Spinner Says AP, Facebook Yesterday a new trailer for " The Great Gatsby " debuted along with the track and artist listing for the film's much-hyped soundtrack, which of course is executive produced by Jay-Z . Besides wondering why Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't have a pencil-thin "Gatsby mustache," the biggest question stems from an eclectic, all-star collection of new songs and covers. And, that question is why? "A [...]

Known for bridging the gap between jazz and hiphop, A Tribe Called Quest pioneered a new movement in hiphop that commodified the use of jazz samples such as that from Weather Report, R.A.M.P., and Howard Roberts Quartet. Ever since their last proper release, The Love Movement , the hiphop group has yet to release any new material and have performed on and off since 2006. Recently the trio regrouped in Austin at SXSW for a surprise performance as an opening act to the acclaimed guitarist, Prince. A few days after their performance, Billboard [...]

In a recent interview with Montreality , Ali Shaheed Muhammad basically struck down any idea of a reunion album from A Tribe Called Quest . While that might still be the case, it's not like they're done recording music together. According to the guys' new interview with Billboard at SXSW, they will appear together on Q-Tip's new album, The Last Zulu . Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until sometime in 2014 to hear it, but maybe Tip will treat us to a single in the coming months. Please? Watch the interview below. [...]

Winding through to the end of Dilla Month i only thought it would be appropriate to blog this mix i put up about two weeks back. This is the first in a three part series of mixes I will be doing to say thanks to easily one of the most talented and forward thinking minds period. Jay Dee single handily changed the way I and I’m sure countless others listen to hip hop and music in general. I was a late appreciator of this man’s genius and after giving myself the time to properly digest alot of Dilla’s [...]

I've rather been looking forward to this, I have. J.Period is pretty flash at putting together a mix tape, as he shows on his latest effort, Rage Is Back - a companion mix tape to Adam Mansback's new-ish book (read more about that here). Mr Period (hmmm, that doesn't sound right does it?) is of course skilled in the trade of turning mix tapes into ripping yarns (that's good stories for the benefit of my non-antipodean people). Plenty of heavy hitters chime in to help [...]

Amerigo Gazaway is back with a new release today, dusting off his Gummy Soul hat and dropping a funk-heavy mix tape with a heavy hip hop twist. Freak The Funk! is a celebratory affair, with Gazaway in a mood to raise the roof a little after being tapped on the shoulder to appear at SXSW Festival in Austin. Over to the press release: " In honor of this monumental event, Amerigo has put together a [...]

This is getting pretty tiresome, but we will continue to follow the story until we get some sort of confirmation from Kanye West himself. Anyway, the G.O.O.D. Music affiliated Scott is planning on dropping Owl Pharaoh soon, and he was in Paris showing off some of the final product to Kanye West. It turns out he got some insider information on the notorious forthcoming compilation called Cruel Winter , confirming that it is indeed on the horizon. Of course, Q-Tip and Pusha T both were reporting that it was indeed going to happen, while [...]
