Listen to this week's new releases and your ears will be whisked off to Italy, Pennsylvania, insane-ass Finland, and worse!
I tried to pretend to care about all the recent Queensrÿche drama, but then I found a booger in my nose and picked it instead; I found that a much more satisfying use of my time than wondering whether or not Geoff Tate has a screw loose. (He does.) That being said, I also kind of [...]

The first summer Olympics that I recall in more than fuzzy detail was the Los Angeles Games in 1984. For me, the first thing that comes to mind from those games isn't Carl Lewis or Mary Lou Retton, it's Zola Budd. It must have been in Sports Illustrated that I first read of Zola, a diminutive South African teenager who had broken the women's world record in the 5000 meters, a record that was unrecognized as it had taken place in a race in her homeland. I found Zola fascinating as she [...]
There's no way around it— today is a big exciting day for metal: Linkin Park has a new album out! Unfortunately, I had a pretty hard time finding any other releases of note... Aaaaaanyway SHIT THAT COMES OUT TODAY! AFTER THE JUMP! *** Linkin Park Living Things (Warner Bros) On a playlist with: Chris Cornell's Scream, [...]
Ok folks, we're gonna be honest right off the bat...there's a new Skrillex song in this post. Now we know that some people despise Sonny, he's a polarizing figure no doubt, but his sheer talent and popularity amongst the bass community is undeniable. Love him or hate him, his new track 'Make Dem Bun' featuring [...]

Quiet Riot "Metal Health"
In 2008, a year after Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow died from a cocaine overdose, drummer Frankie Banali issued a statement saying, "My friendship, love and respect for Kevin DuBrow as well as my personal love and affection for Kevin's mother and his family makes it inconceivable for me to ever entertain any ovation to reform or to continue Quiet Riot. Kevin was too important to go on without him. It would also be a disrespect to the fans who have supported Quiet Riot for nearly 25 years." [...]
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive Mike White Though the band rose to prominence because of being heavily featured on the ' Pulp Fiction ' soundtrack, Urge Overkill have been on hiatus for the last 16 years. Spinner is proud to premiere the video for 'Quiet Person' off of 'Rock & Roll Submarine,' their 6th studio album, and first since 1995. The tune recalls the gentler sides of Neil Young via the [...]

I’ve never figured out why there seemed to be a mainstream backlash against Quiet Riot. When Quiet Riot last came though New York (they played the St. George Theatre in Staten Island in 2006), I asked some of my friends who have mainstream musical tastes (i.e. Nickelback and Poison fans) if they wanted to go with me to the show and they gave me looks like I asked them if they wanted to see (i.e.) The Wiggles open for Miley Cyrus. My friends missed a fabulous show – Rehab (which the band was touring behind at [...]
Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe--ever heard of them? If not, shame on you! Together, these two Hamburg residents produce rockin' German minimal techno under the name Extrawelt. Some may even call their production riotous-- which is probably where the album title of their latest release, In Aufruhr , came from. It loosely translates to 'a riot,' which it is. It's the most minimal riot I've ever heard. I couldn't help but have my brains blown out my ears from the inside when I heard techno as massively good as the tracks on In Aufruhr [...]
Interview and live pics by Emily Eve; girls on stage pic by Friedia Niimura In one sense, making records is like using the toilet: It takes more to do number two than number one. And in the case of L.A. heavy metal semi-parodists Steel Panther, a follow-up to their wildly funny and compulsively banging 2009 debut [...]
by Fred Phillips In the early days of my metal fandom, one of the best ways to sample new music was the compilation albums from K-Tel and the like. They were a lot cheaper than a standard cassette, usually running $4-$5 as opposed to $7-$8 for regular albums, and they gave you a chance to check out a lot of [...]

The living room of our treehouse is a very cozy nook to me. From the second floor perch at the corner of a T intersection, there is often a steady flow of traffic and pedestrians to observe. A friend once called and asked what I was doing. "Watching Afternoon Traffic Theater ," I replied, describing the actual scene playing out down below, some twenty-yards away - two middle-aged woman who had had some minor mini-van tête-à-tête. I covered the incident until its underwhelming conclusion without lifting my head [...]
News HOTEL DIABLO, the new band featuring LADYJACK and former ADLER'S APPETITE vocalist Rick Stitch, guitarist Alex Grossi (QUIET RIOT), bassist Mike Duda and drummer Mike Dupke (both of W.A.S.P.), has released "Set it Off", the first track recorded with former GUNS N' ROSES and ROCKSTAR SUPERNOVA guitarist Gilby Clarke producing.
News SAXON, QUIET RIOT, UFO, MOXY, STEPHEN PEARCY and AXE are the first confirmed bands for the South Texas Rock Fest, set to take place October 7-8 at Sunken Gardens in San Antonio, Texas.
Dallas Mavericks fans were notably well-behaved during yeterday's NBA Championship victory parade through downtown. Despite the fact that 200,000 or so people packed themselves in like sardines al... Continue reading "Not-So-Quiet Riots: The Ten Worst Riots In Music Event History" >

News This Saturday, May 14 at the Sunset Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, vocalist Paul Shortino (ROUGH CUTT, THE CUTT, BADD BOYZ, SHORTINO) and bassist Sean McNabb will join QUIET RIOT on stage to perform the song "Stay With Me Tonight" from the band's 1988 fourth album, "QR".
by Fred Phillips When the new self-titled project from reformed 1980s rockers King Kobra, issued by Frontiers Records earlier this month, landed in my hands, I remembered two things about the band. Sadly, neither one of them was legendary drummer Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Murder). Instead, I remembered the cheesy, synth-laden, quintessentially 1980s theme song from the
