I've really enjoyed the work of Austin band Follow That Bird , so when I found out that Lauren Green was stepping out from the band for a minute to record her own debut EP, Easy Spirits , I was interested to see where her own work would lead her. Needless to say, I'm really stoked on this whole little EP; it's got an entirely different feel, but one that you'll definitely enjoy. Download: Lauren Green - Quilts [MP3]

Frank Yang It's been a long time since you could accurately describe My Morning Jacket as a southern rock kind of band - yes they're southern and they rock, but they've long since chased their country/psych/soul-inspired muses into uncharted corners of the musical cosmos and are really rather their own genre entirely now. Similarly, it's been a long time since you could call Band Of Horses "My Morning Jacket, Jr" as they were often referred - equally affectionately and derisively, I think - on account of Ben Bridwell's own southern accents, sky-reaching field [...]

In less than a week, we'll be partnering with our friends at Brooklyn Industries to bring you coverage of SXSW 2012. Yesterday, they dropped by to share a Spotify playlist of Brooklyn bands they'll be catching at the festival. Today, we see their bet and raise them with a playlist of some of our favorite non-Brooklyn acts (yes, such things exist). Listed below are the bands, their hometowns, and their performance details; you can stream the songs below or hear the whole thing on Spotify . And, if you're getting overwhelmed at the prospect of catching all [...]

One day before the Cloud Nothing and The Deloreans show at Zanzabar , Caveman will warm the place up on March 20th. Their 2011 debut album, Coco Beware , was one of our favorite albums of the year. Word is that the live show is even better. Damn I love the Zanzabar. Caveman / Quilt / 9pm / $7 Bio ( via AllMusic ): Brooklyn-based quartet Caveman deliver an ambitious, sprawling take on indie pop by drawing influences from experimental rock, post-rock, wistful indie [...]
Massachusettes rockers Quilt have the whole playful psychedelia thing down pat. Their use of angelic melodies and simple, repetitive, jangling guitars recalls hippie forefathers (and mothers) like David Crosby, Grace Slick, and John Phillips. The video for "Young Gold" plays into the jovial innocence of the original psych generation even more, by featuring the members of the band running aimlessly through the woods, with a long golden sheet in their hands. Simple adventures ensue as they drape the sheet in a variety of formations. This is all shot on luminous, 8mm film, recalling the experimental films of the [...]

Boston indie-folk standouts Quilt just dropped the video for " Young Gold ," a video that's a particularly neat aesthetic match to the well-worn, laid back rock jam. I'm not sure you're going to see a more autumnal video this winter. Watch it down below. Read More...

Photo by Trevor Powers When friends ask for recommendations for new bands, Quilt has been one that I have been throwing out for the last few months. Their summer of love era guitars sounds and harmonies will burrow straight into your brain and you will be finding yourself with an urge to listen to them over and over. They just released a video for opening album track, Young Gold . The video is beautiful and understated just like the album. Grab a view below. [...]

Tweet Being a sucker for three part harmonies and any music that is conscientiously layered, I kind of expected to love Quilt , a band whose layered but homely sound is right there in the name. The drifting, languid tunes that populate their eponymous debut were formed in a series of long jams, with the band riffing on established chord sequences until concrete songs emerged that sound unlike anything you've heard... recently. You see, just as the name Quilt [...]

Quilt - "Gome Home" I'm carving a weapon out of wood because I can't sleep, what for the moon and the motion. The other jumpers are asleep in the corners and all touching for warmth, but the jostling of the bumps and sways, and the glowing beams of moonlight lighting up the hay in bright blue lines, lighting the whole damn boxcar up, it's keeping me awake. And my mind is wandering to imaginings of being stopped and found, or robbed and run through, so I'm carving a weapon. It's as sharp as a blade, [...]
