I wasn't familiar with the band called Suckers . They are from Brooklyn, New York and I think people should have a listen to them. The band consists of: Quinn Walker Austin Fisher Brian Aiken Pan The band just dropped their second album " Candy Salad " which is out on Frenchkiss Records . With a band named like that I would have expected something lout and heavy, was I definitely wrong! I was [...]
![[Watch] – New Video By Suckers – "It Gets Your Body Movin'"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3060071_lg.jpg)
As I just posted a few days ago, Suckers ' exemplary debut album "Wild Smile" made my Best Of 2010 list, shaking in at number 14. If you haven't yet heard the album, head over there (that linky link above) and immerse yourself in its wonder; a modern-day, Indie-Rock, Kate Bush monster. As much as I'd like to believe, or even entertain the thought that they released this new video to coincide with their placing on my lists, it's simply not true. One day though, it will be. The video's kinda weird but [...]

Wild Smile begins with the words: Save your body. Save your mind. Save your love for me. On paper, it sounds like a plea. Almost desperate. Please, it reads. Please don't go anywhere. Stay with me. Save your soul for mine – they got along so well, didn't they? But put to melody, the lines take flight. Simple, repetitive, honest. Sincere, but playful. The meditative melody inflates the words like a hot air balloon. And right there, found in the first minute of Suckers ' debut [...]

"Save Your Love For Me" by Quinn Walker you may remember was one of my favorite songs of 2008 . In it's previous form I talked about how the electronic backing and his falsetto/baritone recalled Berlin-era Bowie. The new version by Suckers (of which Quinn is the frontman) retools the song completely, turning it into a sprawling epic, and it somehow makes it tons better. This song has been given a dreamy intro with a pretty, chiming guitar playing the main theme while the weird synths have been replaced with lovely, tranquil piano. [...]
Today we focus on some of the lesser known bands of ACL with an interview spotlighting relatively new Brooklyn band Suckers. We spoke to the man simply known as Pan this week via phone to find out a little bit about this new project. I think you will all be glad to know that Pan is in full support of my Pearl Jam pick for ACL. So there. Follow the jump for full interview. ATH: Everyone talks about how your band is associated with Yeasayer. How did [...]

With a consistently sold out residency at New York City venue Piano's, an international tour with Coco Rosie and a month long North American tour plus new LP on the horizon, the future is looking bright for Suckers. Lead singer, Quinn Walker shed some light in a recent interview with GreenShoelace.

[ I started this blog in order to hack away at the large stack of CDs on my desk. Since then, my stack has only gotten bigger. In an effort to pare this shit down to reasonable levels I'm instigating a SPEED ROUND REVIEW series, of which this is the first entry. Time to crank, plow, purge and splurge!] [...]

Suckers - Easy Chairs This four piece band out of Brooklyn is piloted by solo artist Quinn Walker - much admired by the indie inner circle - but still unfamiliar to many. Now that he's teamed up with an extremely talented group of guys the ascent to stardom has begun since the release of their self-titled EP in April. This short four track release is rich with Bowie-esque vocals and killer instrumentals that pull from a wide range of influence. Check out the mind-warping video for "Easy Chairs" below! [...]
A Return To The Simpler Things Cycles in music are pretty reliable, in a fluid sort of way. Even in the age of digital distribution and low-cost production, the trends appear like they have been since the late Sixties. The...

Over the past year I've listened to a countless number of songs, I would estimate that in 2008 alone, I've reviewed over 300 songs on this blog, all of which touched me in some way. So to cap off a year of wonderful music, I'm sharing the 50 songs that grabbed my attention and kept me listening all year long. These are my favorite songs of the year (presented in two parts). In making this list, I selected the songs that I treasured the most, ones that I'll be replaying for years down the line. Like the other two years I've [...]

DUDE! I LIKE THIS! I'm so totally stoked right now cause I haven't been into ANYTHING AT ALL and it has been HORRIFIC. I've barely even been able to crank out a really shitty post about some even shittier tunes in like almost a month. So let me start by thanking you, Quinn Walker. I dig your style. And it was really hard to choose a photo from your myspace profile because there are SO FUCKING MANY and they're all like, either really, really awkward or make you look like that Shifty dude from Celebrity Rehab. [...]

This was the after-party to an all-day scavenger hunt hosted by music mag Death & Taxes magazine. Teams spent four hours running around New York finding stuff, some of which included various forms of alcohol. Before the bands was a two-hour free-booze-and-tacos BBQ, so needless to say the crowd was well-lubricated and some didn't make it to the headlining set of Amazing Baby. Me, I skipped the scavenger hunt and BBQ and showed up just in time for the bands. An early show (7:30 or so), especially for Union Pool, and easily the most on-time [...]

In late January, the CocoRosie-founded label, Voodoo-EROS , released a double album from Quinn Walker (also a member of the band Suckers ) titled Laughter's an Asshole/Lion Land . It managed to slip through the majority of the blog-buzz cracks, though I guess I can see why - debuting with an album that spreads 29 songs over two albums is a lot to ask of an unfamiliar audience. But to pan Quinn Walker for giving too much means only [...]
TRACK : QUINN WALKER - "Save Your Love for Me" BLOG : MUSIC FOR KIDS WHO CAN'T READ GOOD - (Bloomington, IL)
I imagine that Quinn Walker , who's been aptly described as a "brazen experimental baroque-folk artist", is perhaps the biggest undiscovered treasure of 2008 thus far. It's true the artist has a bit of a oddball streak, the album cover (see above) straddles the line between completely awesome and downright awful. My stance though, on the cover and his music is that it's completely awesome (just the facial expression alone on that cover is hilarious). While there is some weird stuff that might throw listeners for a loop, there's also moments of pure musical genius, reminiscent [...]

It's another amazing week for new releases. It seems that January started off a bit slow, but has really come on strong the last couple of weeks. Truthfully I can't remember two consecutive weeks of new releases that had this much quality music. Overwhelmed? I know the feeling, I'm still trying to get my hands on some of last weeks new releases . Also, it looks like next week might be just as good. As always feel free to let us know if we forgot something. [...]

Quinn Walker - Smile for Me (Voodoo-Eros 2008) Quinn Walker - Laughter's An Asshole / Lion Land / Voodoo-Eros A few weeks ago, Michael remarked to me candidly that he was getting back to his "country roots" - not so much the part about dipping Skoal and fishin' on the river and drinking Southern Comfort on the river all day, but more the part about Willie Nelson and Shooter Jennings and outlaw country from across the South. Good thing, too, because I don't think we could've stayed on [...]

I've been listening to Quinn Walker tracks for around 3 years, and it's not because I have an amazing nose for talent. One of my housemates, upon returning from a trip to his childhood home of Connecticut, kept bringing home these sprawling, disjointed, manic CDR's from this kid he grew up with. There were always about 25 tracks packed onto each album, the covers were xeroxes of intricate/messy hand-drawn art. I'd listen to each one since I'd become accustomed to hearing 3 or 4 moments of brilliance among the rest of the (still quite good) noise. [...]
