review by Suzi Pratt all photos by Marianne Spellman During the dreary Seattle winter chill, two Seattleites were lucky to escape to the other side of the continent for the second annual Bruise Cruise Festival , sailing from Miami to the Bahamas. The three-day escapade is hardly your retired grandmother's cruise, although there were plenty of those on board as well. Instead, Bruise Cruise is like summer camp for some five hundred tattooed, cigarette-smoking indie rockers and hipsters who devoured fruity drink concoctions and action-packed music sets all weekend long. Unlike other huge, multi-stage music fests, [...]

Quintron and Miss Pussycat 's last tour was pretty short, and it left us wanting them to take a longer trek (or at least one that stopped by New York City), and this time around we get two shows in the City. Brooklyn's 285 Kent Avenue is one of the stops; the duo play there on April 28. The next night, they'll be playing in Manhattan at the Mercury Lounge. The full list of tour dates is below. The 2012 Bruise Cruise , a 3-day voyage with tons of great live music, sets sail February 10th, and four new 73 singles are being released to commemorate the occasion. Last year's volumes 1-4 singles featured artists like The Black Lips , Ty Segall , and Thee Oh Sees and sold out fast! This years lineup is just as strong, and we expect them to move just as quick. Here's this years selection: Vol. 5 - Neil Hamburger - "Tribute to Our Brave Deceased Celebrities" one-sided [...]
Pop-up books were pretty great to have during the pre-Vimeo age, so it's a delight that the team of Katie Maren and Mike P. Nelson bring such a book to life in local group Still Pacific's new music v
I was sitting around the house the other day listening to music and one of my roommates spotted this record in a pile and said, "How do you know Quintron!?" to which I, naturally, responded, "Oh…you know Quintron?" in my typical sarcastic manner. Unfortunately for me, my roommate then let me know he actually KNOWS [...]

Tour dates from Quintron and Miss Pussycat are always welcoming news bits. However, it looks like the duo's dates seem like mostly a preparation for the upcoming Bruise Cruise that kicks off in Miami, FL. They don't stray too far from their hometown of New Orleans with shows in the neighboring state of Texas. We hope there's more coming soon, but check out what is currently scheduled below. Quintron and Miss Pussycat tour dates: 12/29 - Austin, TX - Emos Inside 12/30 - Houston, [...]
Sundays suck when there's no Giants game to watch. RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just [...]
There's undoubtedly too much happening on any given day of Voodoo to talk about everything. Nevertheless, we figured it couldn't hurt to tell you what performances we're excited about. Here's a few thoughts on a national and a local act that we are looking forward to on Friday. Major Lazer: Le Plur Red Bulletin, 6:00PM When internationally renown DJs/producers Diplo and Switch decided to collaborate on an electro-dub/dancehall album, both men's vast experience and impressive industry sway made it easy to predict their 2009 debut under the "Major [...]
"Yeah, of course you do. Give it to me!" -- Tom, responding to a dude from the label who revealed that he had the 2011 RSD Superchunk/Coliseum split 7" for him "I am going to call shenanigans on that." -- Tom, disputing the claim that attractive girls were present at the Amadeus Nerd Party "Party for one. Right here. Happenin' ... now. And it's pretty good ." -- Coco Hames, flying solo in her London flat "I think he's a savant. Gifted in ways that [...]
A charming New Orleans tribute that sounds nothing like the Treme soundtrack, but a little bit like Half Japanese. Quintron's 13th album, Sucre du Sauvage ("Sugar of the Savages"), is, among other things, another chapter in the ongoing life-as-art odyssey of Quintron, his wife Miss Pussycat, and their whirring contraption and eternal houseguest, the Drum Buddy. It's also a tribute to New Orleans that sounds nothing like the Treme soundtrack. Recorded and mixed entirely in and around the New Orleans Museum of Art -- quite a stunt -- the album's "making-of" legend could easily...
The video for Quintron and Miss Pussycat 's new video for "Face Down in the Gutter" from the album Sucre Du Sauvage borrows a lot from the Miss Pussycat portion of the duo's live show, with puppets aplenty! Check it out above!
Wild and wooly one-man-electro-dance-rock-swa mp-man-band, Quintron will team up with Miss Pussycat for massive Summer tour. He's also released his latest album, Sucre Du Sauvage recently through Goner Records. During the making of his latest effort, Quintron stayed in the New Orleans City Park . He made field recordings at night of the animal and nature sounds and then wove them into his music by day. He recorded thousands of hours of tape, and so electronic and acoustic instruments blur together with ducks, [...]

Continuing to defy categorization, New Orleans eccentric Quintron has a new record out, Sucre Du Sauvage, this month via Goner Records. Sugar of the savage? Sounds about right. Recorded live at the New Orleans Museum of Art, over a four month stint in 2010, Sauvage is plays out like one part live album, one part [...]
