Here's an interesting take on Ra Ra Riot's "Beta Love" from RAC . A lot less energetic, yet enhanced for a nice road-trip montage at the end of a movie where the protagonist realizes some truth on a trip and is on his way back. Whether you agree with my ideal setting for the song or not, it is a good, interesting take on an already awesome song. Everything I heard from Ra Ra Riot's most recent effort - Beta Love - caused me to cancel my pre-order of the album. I didn't like the synth-centric direction in which the band seemed to be heading on it; it's not that I mind synths, but more that I didn't like Ra Ra Riot's use of them. I said something disparaging about one of the songs on Twitter and the band tweeted back about it, which made me feel bad that I was harsh about a band that I rather enjoy. Frank Yang Objectively speaking, there's not a world of difference between Widowspeak's 2011 self-titled debut or the follow-up Almanac , released in January of this year. You can file them both quite comfortably under "the soundtrack to dreams of dusty country roads", not too far from lazy but not inaccurate reference points Mazzy Star and Cat Power, but something about Almanac grabs me the way that Widowspeak , as much as I dug it , didn't. While I was a bit underwhelmed with their recent record Beta Love , I will never lose faith in Ra Ra Riot . The band will be releasing a RSD exclusive 10 of album track Binary Mind, but Im here to talk about the b-side All I Fear.
