If you've been reading the blog for a while you may be aware that we were into Ra Ra Riot last year and their album The Orchard which we featured in our top 15 albums of 2010 . (8 months has flown by huh?!). Mathieu Santos of the band is going to be releasing his debut solo album and the first 500 LPs are hand-numbered and pressed on white vinyl. Sexy! There will also be a 7" single for the album opener "I Can Hear The Trains Coming " that will be [...]
I was laid up all weekend after a pretty nasty car wreck on an American interstate, which put my right arm in a sling and has made it a bit more difficult to type, so you'll have to forgive my absence for the last couple of days. The time away wasn't all bad, as it gave me a chance to catch up on the countless submissions that have come through my inbox over the last little while. Somewhere near the top of the pile was a news release announcing Ra Ra Riot bassist Mathieu Santos 's solo [...]

Be excited because this week might just be the best week of indie concerts in New York City in recent history. Not only is Death Cab for Cutie playing Williamsburg Waterfront, but Sufjan Stevens has two dates at Prospect Park, Lykke Li is playing Central Park, and we're putting on a show for Body Language and Port St. Willow (featuring Peter Silberman of The Antlers ) at Cameo Gallery . It's going to be an amazing week. Go see some music! [...]

So, this is my 100th episode of this show. I would make a big deal out of this, but I've actually done far more than 100 of these things. From 2002 to 2007, this used to be called the Post Modern Rock Show. I conceived of the name as part of an idea to create a meta-genre, encompassing all the music I like to play. Having named this meta-genre, it would then become a radio format, and that radio format would dominate and defeat all the Nickelback and Britney Spears-spewing stations, and people everywhere would emerge from their [...]

The block party on my pathetic block in Chicago is pretty much a glorified bake sale with a shitty bouncy castle which I'm not even allowed to bounce in. So the leap from my wholly depressing, completely sober, and awkward neighborhood reunion to the Capitol Hill Block Party is a paradigm shift to be sure. And to boot, it's less of a block party and more of a bona fide music festival that just happens to take place on Pike Street between 10 th and 12 th . But the focus on the Seattle/Capitol Hill district community [...]

Y en sus maletas ha colocado un single debut titulado I Can Hear The Trains Coming , que tengo en modo repeat desde hace días. Esa voz que viene de lejos, teclados ensoñadores, percusiones de paja, y final trepidante tienen la culpa. No hacen falta [...]

"Can You Tell" was featured on Ra Ra Riot's debut LP, The Rhumb Line . What exactly is a Rhumb, you ask? Yeah, I had to look that up too. According to Wikipedia, the Rhumb line "is a line crossing all meridians of [...]
Balam Acab remixed a song from Ra Ra Riot bassist Mathieu Santos's solo debut Massachusetts 2010 . As mentioned previously, Alec Koone is a patient, precise composer, so it's interesting to give a close listen to what he decided to retain, shift, or implode - that in mind, we have Santos's original along with Balam's tweak. (Hint: You might want to repaint the above album art black and blue.) Read More...
Ra Ra Riot is still pushing their 2010 release, The Orchard , pretty hard. They'll be taking the album out on the road for the better part of the next four months, including three gigs in the next nine days. The New York indie rock outfit will cover nearly every part of the U.S. and Canada, so consider this your chance to see them if you haven't yet. They won't be going it alone, either, as they'll share bills with Guster, Dinosaur Bones, Delicate Steve, and several others. I wonder if bassist Mathieu Santos will play any of his [...]

On the forthcoming album Massachusetts 2010 Mathieu Santos' songs give us an insight into the broad spectrum of artists who have influenced him, and the band he's best known for, Ra Ra Riot. This is the debut solo album from the bassist, and it will hit stores on August 2nd. Fans of Ra Ra Riot shouldn't expect to hear much that sounds like that band here. The only song that comes close is the

Ra Ra Riot has survived a lot since forming at Syracuse University in 2006. Early on, the band weathered the sudden death of John Pike, the drummer and an integral part of Ra Ra Riot's songwriting team. Despite the tragedy, RRR (as they're known to fans) soldiered on to record a stunning follow-up their 2008 debut The Rhumb Line . Written in a peach orchard—far from the noise and chaos of city life— The Orchard is a quieter take on their soaring orchestral pop that manages to preserve the immediacy and urgency of their debut. Prior to Ra Ra Riot's [...]
