Rachael Cantu is an artist who has consistently displayed an extraordinary interpretative range as well as remarkable vocal prowess. This 9-song collection of covers - which includes favorites like Active Child's "High Priestess" and Tegan and Sara's "Alligator," as well as interpretations of classic songs like Ben E. King's "This Magic Moment" and "Stand By Me" - illustrates Cantu's broader pop palette and ever-increasing sophistication, both as songwriter and interpreter. Cantu's bravura rendition of Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me," is powerful and energetic yet delicate, bringing the right amount of guitar [...]

You have to love synchronicity. While on our supporting B.B. King last year, Los Angeles songstress Rachael Cantu had a little dressing-room jam with guitarist Harlan Silverman (the Alex in Alex and Sam , as well as the gifted guy who plays with the Belle Brigade and Mayer Hawthorne). The more Silverman tickled the strings, and the more Cantu sang, the more evident it became that there was some real chemistry. Little Brutes were born. Merely a studio project for now, Little Brutes just released their debut EP , which, not unlike Cantu's solo [...]

Midweek meanderings: ► Flying Lotus over the weekend released another mixtape, "Lover Melt 2," that's a 2 1/2-hour head trip, and tonight the Brainfeeder main man plays Low End theory at the Airliner. ► Jackson Browne visits the Satellite, with Dawes backing both him and opener Jonathan Wilson. ► Ex-Jealous Girlfriends siren Holly Miranda , pictured, headlines the Bootleg, with Rachael Cantu supporting. [See our post on Miranda from last year] ► And Saint Motel and the Silent Comedy [...]
I hope that Rachael Cantu is related to former Cincinnati Reds (and current Florida Marlins) first baseman Jorge Cantu. So I'll say yes, yes she is. Makes me wonder if she can pick up the 3-6-3, because I sure as hell know he can't. Rachael Cantu - Can You Tell (Ra Ra Riot cover) [link, We All Want Someone to Shout For ]
Awesome cover of my favorite Ra Ra Riot tune, "Can You Tell". It was performed by LA singer/songwriter Rachael Cantu. If you like what you hear, check her out on her myspace ! She definitely has a voice!

Nowadays, there are a lot of singer/songwriters who use their acoustic guitar as a vehicle to write songs about their relationships. However, it's difficult to find those who excel in such a crowded field. Once you listen to her songs though, it becomes clear that Rachael Cantu is definitely a cut above the rest. Cantu's music follows the tradition of many other indie female singer/songwriters before her, such as PJ Harvey and Norah Jones. Her strong vocals, combined with flowing melodies and emotional lyrics, force you to pay attention without losing the gentle spirit she creates [...]
[Happy birthday, Dave Davies ...] " Razorlight Set to Take on U.S." I think I first read that headline in January, 2005, when the British quartet began in earnest to market their wares here — only to have its tour scotched because of frontman's Johnny Borrell's vocal problems. A 2006 tour didn't go much better, canceled because tourmates Keane had to cancel. In between their platinum-selling successes in the U.K., Razorlight did make it to L.A. (March 2007 at the El Rey, a good one), and have had some modest success [...]
Our inaugural "Live at Mr. T's Bowl" was a very intimate affair. We kept it low-key (yes, even more low-key than usual) so that we could get a feel for what what kind of an undertaking it would be to do a fairly high quality recording at our beloved T's. So we invited a few of our most favorite artists, set up nine microphones and some video cameras around the room, and lo and behold, it sounded

AT LAST!!! The end of a hot, sunny and sticky week. I've been looking forward to the weekend for days now. Don't you just hate it when you can't wait for the weekend to arrive?....it just seems to make the week drag even more slowly!! Still, 2 days off now to sit and relax and do nothing......I WISH!!! I have a list of jobs as long as my arm to do around the house and garden. [...]
Yeah, two simple songs for a simple summertime Saturday night. Hope your weekend is going well because it's all downhill from here folks. MP3 | Screeching Weasel - First Day Of Summer MP3 | Rachael Cantu - Saturday
Well, we made it through the first week. It's about time for my first mix, don't you think? This mix is for my friends that are reading this. A lot of this stuff has been around for awhile, but most of it is new to you. Right click on the song titles to save. Click on the artist name for more information. Enjoy! Is Rachael Cantu the American equivalent of Beth Orton? Maybe (perhaps with less club influence and more rock bleeding through). Whatever your opinion, her EP (a mini album really) Run All Night serves as a great introduction to this bi-coastal singer/songwriter based out of both LA and Boston. Although the songs are primarily of the songstress-with-acoustic-guita r variety, Rachael is not afraid to flesh out the arrangements. She does so on "Saturday," which is as infectious as any song Kelly Clarkson or Liz Phair has released in recent years, and it will [...]
