Haunted By You is flawed and successful in equal measures, making for a difficult listen. Rachael Sage is a female singer-songwriter who has virtually nothing to distinguish her from any other radio-ready female singer-songwriter. This proves to be an overwhelming problem on Haunted By You and she struggles to find a distinctive element throughout, though to her credit she does try at various points. Unfortunately, every time there's even so much a glimpse of uniqueness or originality it's instantly watered down and marginalized to the same conventionally repetitious and bland...

Rachael Sage - Abby Would You Wait

Songwriter Rachael Sage makes no secret of her scars. Her open attitude in discussing life's myriad frustrations and pains makes her music all the more real and personal: like an old friend lending a sympathetic ear. Tracks like the rootsy 'Delancey Street' discuss the hardships of the struggling artist's life, while new song cycle 'Haunted by You' finds the singer in and out of relationships and heartache. Along with her band The Sequins, Sage takes her candid personality to the kind of roots jams only a city like New York could produce, and that's the best [...]

Enigmatic New York singer-songwriter Rachel Sage returns this May with her 10th career album releasing via her own successful indie label, MPress Records. Haunted By You (May 22) is a captivating song cycle about passion, desire and romance, both the glorious highs and the depressing lows. What is it with these female artists who call themselves Rachael with an "a" and sing wonderfully raspy, airy music that makes me want to melt? Bring it on, snow - the Rachaels can handle you. You know how the Bens (Lee, Kweller, Folds) made an album together? I would love some of the same from the Rachaels. New York City songstress Rachael Sage returns with her second UK solo release, 'Chandelier' , a highly anticipated follow-up to her debut UK release 'The Blistering Sun' , released via MPress Records on 4th August 2008. A musically eclectic myriad of emotions, 'Chandelier' always comes back to one central theme: fragility. From the expansive title track "Chandelier" to the frenetic "Vertigo", the dancer-turned-songwriter is adept at illuminating dark subject matter, including codependency, depression and adultery. On the more optimistic "My Word," Sage enlightens us with her thespian past (she received a degree in Drama [...]

I've been working on the release posts all month, but with the server switch and other things that we had going on, they never saw the light of day. I'm going to correct that, by presenting you an entire month's worth of releases at once. It pretty much goes without saying, that this is going to be the longest post in IA's history. We'll be back with the regularly scheduled weekly posts this week. Enjoy! Week of June 24 I cannot say enough about the amount of great music out [...]

I think my first exposure to Rachael Sage was in magazine ads. It seemed like every time I opened up a Dirty Linen, there was her red hair and smiling face. She has a poppy gypsy vibe going for her. Okay, fast and dirty this week. New music as always, but not so many new bands. Comments from two weeks ago were correct, I fell for a fake Death Cab file. Song wasn't half bad though, was it? Anyway, new DCFC this week, and more Weezer. I haven't really been a fan of Weezer's stuff, but Troublemaker really rocks. Wallis Bird is new to me, but I dig her stuff already. Not sure what to think of the new Captain single yet- they were one of my favorites from 2006, but this one hasn't caught on with me [...]
