Rachael Yamagata is an inspiration. As a girl who loves to sing, I was overjoyed and left completely in awe with Rachael's talent- not only with songwriting, but also how clever of a lyricist and vocalist she is. Her music has a real element of enchantment! Rachael took the time to speak with AMBY, so we had a chat about interior design, maintaining karmic balance, and good water pressure! AMBY: Hello Rachael, how have you been and what have you been up to lately? Rachael Yamagata: Doin well, thanks! We've just [...]

Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin It might seem like Björk doesn't tour much anymore - after all, it's been nearly five years since she was last here headlining V Fest 2007 in support of Volta , but that was actually her last album before 20112s Biophilia . So besides the fact that she's been working at a slower pace than when the '90s triumvirate of Debut / Post / Homogenic made her one of the most unconventional pop stars of Alternative [...]

Yamagata asume [...]

If Rachael Yamagata didn't have a beautiful voice, she could be a stand-up comic.

Photos and words by Leslie Kalohi Rachael Yamagata is not for the fragile of heart. Her music lures you in with its delicately constructed beauty while the lyrics jaggedly rip apart at your soul. The desolate despair that ultimately results leaves the listener a crumbled, speechless mess on the floor. The question is then posed as to why anyone but a masochist would want to experience this in a live environment, as many did on Tuesday night at LA’s El Rey Theatre for a special seated performance. The answer quickly revealed itself [...]
► Rachael Yamagata , whose new EP "Chesapeake" is out today, headlines the El Rey Theatre. Ed Romanoff and Adrien Reju support. ► The Gaslamp Killer teams up with Them Jeans, Thee Mike B and Bones for a night at Dim Mak Studios. We're assuming it's not going to be as weird or dark as the Gaslamp Killer's new video for "Seven Years of Bad Luck for Fun," above. ► Gavin Turek [ see our post of "Suffah" ] continues her residency at the Central SAPC, and on board for tonight's show are [...]

A decade into her recording career, the now-independent L.A.-based songstress Rachael Yamagata just keeps getting better and better. Witness: "It'll Do", a new song that also serves as a peek into her forthcoming self-released EP Heavyweight arriving digitally November 20. A gorgeously orchestrated piano ballad, "It'll Do" reminds us a bit of Fiona Apple's more subtle and reflective moments. More DC on Yamagata and her 2011 album Chesapeake here . Pick up a free download of "It'll Do" along with seven "acoustic loft" recordings from the good folks at [...]
