Whew! What a weekend. Wait, was it what a weekend? I don't even remember what I did Friday night! I know I worked late…but after that…Oh, right, I stayed in. That wasn't at all exciting, was it? And last night I went across town to cash in on a dinner bet and hang out in [...]

Esmerine... "New" is a bit of an elongation of the truth seeing as their first record was released back in 2003, but the three-letter word describes my recent relationship with Esmerine just right. Formed by (now former) members of both Godspeed You! Black Emperor ( Bruce Cawdron ) and Thee Silver Mt Zion ( Rebecca Foon ) over ten years ago, the Montreal explorers of cello and percussion limits have released a number of illuminating [...]
It's been a long weekend. I'm gonna go watch Game of Thrones and then hit the sack. In case you were wondering, I only got a couple of the RSD exclusives I was hoping to find, including the Chelsea Wolfe 73 (apparently no one in Silverlake likes her, as we still have 2 of the [...]
Our metal writer Phil Johnston caught up with Andrew and Rachel from NYC based sludge/doom band Archon and chatted about their new album Ouroboros Collapsing and other things.

Despite the last episode airing in 2004, Friends was on Channel 4 until 2011. The six cast members went on to form a black metal band called Venner . By the way, one of those sentences is not true. Whatever, we reckon Rachel looks the most like a pretty Norwegian man.

Loaded with a slight Jean Michel Jarre and slender Chicane tendency, Adam Berger sees off the fellow competition with his personal ode to ‘Rachel.’ 95 Royale & Yazid Le Voyageur go into immortal disco overdrive with ‘Star Voyage’ (so you might need your audio sunglasses for that) while the blindin’ collaborations continue from R3hab & ZROQ and the emphatic Mat Zo & Porter Robinson. Throwing all characteristic notions from out of the 31st-floor window, all camps enclosed are products of their own environment. And that environment is Party, Party, Party !!!! ADAM BERGER - Rachel [...]

Night Panther - Fever In a thrift store, I found a white, hand-painted mug for 99 cents. The front read Meg in loving, loopy, lipstick-red script. The back: Rachel April 16, 1994 Meg and Rachel met at a bar when Rachel caught Meg’s eye from across the bar and sent a bourbon-and-coke her way with a wink and a kiss on a napkin. They met in the middle and danced off-beat to The Cardigans and The Go Gos. Meg was trying too hard. Rachel asked for her [...]
Yeah, I slept last night. I slept the shit out of sleep. And this morning I awoke in a much better and well-rested mood. It's amazing what a handful of over-the-counter sleeping pills and a cold room can do for a man. Well, I'll not dawdle here. Enjoy your mix tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs: [...]

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Jeff Mueller's three seminal bands Rodan, June of 44, and Shipping News. So it is with great sadness that I report the death of guitarist/vocalist Jason Noble, who played in both Rodan and Shipping News (as well as Rachel's). Noble had been battling a rare [...]
