Monday Music’s the one post where Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only rule Febueder - Galeo Despite the name, Febueder aren't a post-techno band from the depths of Dortmund. They are, in fact, an inventive quirk-pop trio from the hearty, horse-racing town of Ascot who sound more than a smidge like Alt-J. They're also as thrillingly inventive as the Mercury Prize-winners; witness Galeo 's vocal tics, recurrent changes of paces, fruity howls, huffs and puffs, and general "own rules" feel. The [...]
If you missed last week's Friday Cheers with The Lone Bellow and Radical Face , you missed one incredible show. The Lone Bellow were so loud and passionate got the energy off to a good start. And Radical Face played a bunch of jams that went on through the night. Catch this week's Artist Confidential as the Lone Bellow discusses its debut album, why they love Richmond and who's listening to Justin Timberlake. Watch "Green Eyes and a Heart of Gold" [...]
Friday Cheers kicked off the summer concert season on Friday and it couldn't have been a better day for a show. Perfect weather. Amazing crowd. And two phenomenal artists played sets that got the crowd going. Three years ago, I wrote a post called "Why Friday Cheers Sucks" and after this show, I took everything I said back. This series has really stepped it up and it's going to be a great set of shows coming this summer. For the Artist Confidential video series, which I'm helping to produce, we got to interview Hayes Carll , who [...]
Here's your spoonful of delicious Monday tunes. This particular playlist rises slowly from the ashes into romping good time - also known as a barn-burner, if you're hip. You know the drill. Plug your headphones in, click play and enjoy the music. I'd also like to take a moment to point out that 8tracks has apps available for both Android and iOS . They are free and grant you access to a ton of awesome playlists. Believe it or not, 8tracks didn't pay us to put this in here. We just want you [...]

There were a few albums I obsessed over when I was growing up, and Jeff Buckley’s Grace was one of them. Perhaps that’s why I was immediately drawn to Australian band Texture Like Sun . Not only are singer Mark Pearl’s vocals reminiscent of Buckley’s, but the music also haunts you in a similar fashion. Darker-toned themes are celebrated, constructing an eerie ambience that consumes the listener. Pearl released an album back in 2007 under the alias The Commas and then disappeared until 2011 [...]

When we first looked at the press photo of Radical Face , we immediately assumed his single, “Pound Of Flesh,” would be a dark, foreboding, industrial piece of grit and grime. We were half right. It is, indeed, dark and foreboding but “Pound Of Flesh,” from Radical Face’s new album, The Family Tree: The Roots , is anything but industrial. Within a pastoral setting of gentle piano and shimmering acoustic guitars, Radical Face’s delicate airy tenor paints a picture of a dream that grips him in his sleep and haunts him when he’s awake. “Next to [...]

Ben Cooper, better known as Radical Face (@radicalface), bridged the gap between the first and second installment of his Family Tree trilogy with the Always Gold EP . Three of the six tracks featured are varying renditions of the EP's title track, and, alongside the other three songs, demonstrate just how charming and endearing Cooper can be. As the album version and the tighter, more concise “Short Attention Span” mix of "Always Gold" prove, Cooper is quite the gifted multi-instrumentalist, crafting something pretty special using his wide timbre range. The fluid movement and progressions that fuel and form his [...]
![Miaou - Lost Souls feat. Radical Face (Aus remix) [Listen]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4647067_lg.jpg)
Japanese trio Miaou have been kicking around since 1999, and last year saw them drop somewhat of a sonic curveball with 'The Day Will Come Before Long', featuring electronic stylings with in-your-face synths. Now Tatsuki Hamasaki and sisters Mayumi and Hiromi Hasegawa have invited acts to remix tracks from the album for a release, Miaou Remixed - The Night Will Come Before Long - turning day into night. Aus takes care of duties for 'Lost Souls' to create a languidly-paced chill-tastic vibe, ideal for skiving off work/school in your sun-kissed garden [...]

If you follow me on Twitter , you've probably seen me mention Radical Face once or twice (or 40 times, but who's counting, really?). I'm partial to Florida musicians, and Jacksonville based Ben Cooper is very near the top of my list of favorites, thanks to his stark, evocative songwriting, brilliantly layered vocals and instrumentation, and the incredible heart that he puts into every project. If you've never heard his music, I can't recommend it enough - trust me, you won't be sorry you listened. Last week, Ben released the official video for "Always [...]

If you are ever looking to just sit back, relax and listen to some real chill tunes that can truly make you reflect on whatever your current situation might be, then you need not look any further. With their unique brand of introspective music that can turn any ordinary moment into a quiet reflection of times past, present and future, Radical Face has a way of picking apart your innermost being and making sense of even the most trivial of circumstances. Maybe it's just music in general or just what you make of it, but Radical [...]
Posted in Play-This-List Something For The Weekend When James from A Dark Horse got in touch about his band's debut EP I was in music festival mode enjoying the sights and sounds of Osheaga. When I finally got around to giving the EP a listen, it was just what my mind and body needed, a relaxing change of pace - the perfect [...]

For those of us who have only been turned onto a group once a track hit the radio, we're sympathetic. Tokyo Police Club's Elephant Shell convinced us to listen to previous work from the group, "Lisztomania" corralled Phoenix fans with just one song and even Bon Iver shed some light on his well-established collection with last year's self-titled album. It's with these sort of missing it instances that we want to share some of the misses we've had. Beach House 's "Zebra" released back in 2010 off of Teen Dream [...]
