The weekend is just around the corner. As usual, Indianapolis has several events that make removing your keester from its stagnant spot on the couch a worthwhile venture. In my opinion, the best bang for your buck can be found at Radio Radio tomorrow night. Louisville's Whistle Peak is an act that I've been dying to see for a while now. I featured this project in a Band to Watch post back in early January. Their sophomore LP, Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls is one of the stronger regional releases of the [...]

There was various events happening all over Ottawa on May 12, 2012. I decided to go with a rap/hip-hop flavor of Chiac. (An English-influenced variety of Acadian French) The Canadian electro hip-hop band Radio Radio played at Ritual Nightclub. They were promoting the new album Havre de Grace. I was kind of surprised that the show was sold out. I got at the venue and there was already a lineup. [...]

Canada has been killing it lately, guys, so hard and so fast that I haven't been able to keep up. Here are no fewer than seven awesome videos that have fallen like manna from the north in the past month or so. PS I Love You - "Don't Go" (see above) PS I Love You recently performed [...]

"Havre de grâce" literally translates to "harbour of grace", a fitting title for Radio Radio after bringing their last album (20102s Belmundo Regal ) into port following a whirlwind voyage. You'll recall that said album landed the band a spot on the Polaris Music Prize shortlist, raising their profile with both anglo- and franco-Canadians alike who had previously been unfamiliar with the band's brand of electro-pop fueled hip-hop, rapped in the chiac dialect that’s part Acadian French and part English. I was one such neophyte. While I [...]

Montreal's Radio Radio are back trying to score themselves another Polaris nomination with their new album Havre de Grâce , which comes out April 17th. The album is another blender-blitz of hip hop, trip hop and other electronic genres. At times you think that the album will, or should, settle into a party record atmosphere. It never really does, with songs checking in, like "On a vécu Des", with the TV On The Radio electronic model which leans more towards moodiness than revelry. The most straightforward hip hop cut [...]
by teepoo My favourite Acadian rap group (not sure if there are others) Radio Radio is back with a video for Galope . They look mighty fine as cowboys, although I'm not sure that's what I would consider them here.

"In their eyes I would be strange and ragged and like the prophet who has walked across the land to bring the dark word the only word I had was 'wow'." - Kerouac The greatest spectacle in music (I've heard they have movies too) has just wrapped up and for all it's brilliance and mind [...]

Here's my favourite Acadian French rap group Radio Radio . Looks like they are becoming even more beat heavy. Of course they haven't lost the ridiculously hilarious lyrics that make me glad to be bilingual. But don't worry even if you don't understand French, they have random spurts of English. This track also features French artist Poncho. They will be releasing their followup to Polaris Prize nominated Belmundo Regal on April 17, 2012 . It will be titled Havre De Grâce . I'm oh so excited. Radio Radio- Sunrise/All Inclusive World Tour [...]
(Mamoru Kobayakawa) Three years ago, if you told me that a hybrid hip-hop album made by a trio of Acadians from Quebec would simultaneously consume me with obsession, disdain, and love, I would have said you were trés fou . That's exactly what happened to me two years ago, when Radio Radio were shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize for their album Belmundo Regal . That album-oh, that album!-nearly drove me insane. Did I love it, or did I hate it? Did I get the joke, or was [...]

Tweet Watch the excellent St. Vincent perform their song "Cheerleader" below, taken from the album "Strange Mercy" . My highlight of 2012 so far is by far the little tribute they play at the start to Elvis Costello 's 1977 SNL performance . Just when I didn't think I could love Annie Clark anymore.
