You guys all know Rai Knight. If you follow the site at all, you'll remember her unbelievably, borderline unfairly infectious single "New New," and then you'll remember that we stole her talents to write for The Chuckness. Rai's an active musician, and her sound is (and has been) built for ... Read More

As expected, KKS favorite Rai Knight , has been working on a handful of exciting projects. She's been in the studio working on vocal collaborations with The Soundmen (another KKS favorite), and also Beng Feng, on a house/R&B project. She also experienced some great success with a few tracks she did for HNQO under her sudo name, bip. " City Lights " was just released on Hot Waves and is currently #14 on the beatport deep house charts, #66 overall. "As I see," released via Off Recordings, experienced similar top 20 success. Lately, Rai has been heavy-focused [...]

Beatloaf is a Detroit producer currently living in Germany. He's probably best known for his Phoenix remixes. Here he takes "We've Been Thru" by the delectable Rai Knight (who is probably best known for being an all around artist/writer/topliner champion) and gives it a proper spit shine. We are talking high-gloss with a surface so shiny it's reflective. Rai Knight on SoundCloud Rai Knight Official Rai Knight on Twitter [...]

If you keep up with the site, you've been seeing a pretty steady stream of posts coming from Rai Knight. If you kept up with the site earlier in it's days, you'd know that Rai is an unbelievable musical talent of her own - with writing skills to spare. It just so happens that she released a new project with fellow Detroit-based producer We Are The Tay. As humble as she is, Rai figured it'd be kind of weird if she wrote about her own shit. Working Hard is made up of four equally unique tracks, ranging from electronic-themed to [...]

On Monday, I sent a tweet to Rai expressing my withdrawals for new music. And as fate would have it, three days later I get to share with you her brand new 4-track Working Hard EP. I'm not going to question any of this as to not wake up if I'm dreaming. If you know me well, then you've not only heard Rai's music, but you've read me gushing over it. If you're just tuning in, searching "Rai Knight" on Kick Kick Snare is equal to swimming in Scrooge McDuck's twelve-story money vault, all three cubic acres of it! [...]
Last time we did this, Rai presented us with five of her favorite songs at the time - and she went 5/5 in my book. Flames everywhere. This time around, we're upping the ante with 10 of her favorites - and she's come through again. Just wait for the tenth pick here - that one owns my soul. Might have to go ahead and hire Rai as a full time writer if she keeps bringing jams to the table like this. Oh, and she can sing too. So yeah, check out her Top 10 below. Then follow her on Twitter [...]
Remember when Rai Knight dropped her 5 favorite tracks of the moment on us and introduced our world to Kirko Bangz? She was onto something it seems. "Drank In My Cup" is currently sitting pretty at #10 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, with established rappers like J. Cole jumping in on it. Hit Cole's freestyle below. Love you Rai. We've been praising Rai Knight for a bit now - and I was semi-thrown off when I got word that she was featured on a Chicago MC's latest track. The GTW (Greater Than Wealth) enlists the help of Ms. Knight and XXL Freshman nominee BradUn Deshay to tell the story of Lake Shore Drive (LSD)- the line in Chicago that splits the rich and the poor. Interesting to hear Rai on some hip-hop production - I could definitely see her going down this route in the future. Tweet

The GTW featuring Brandun Deshay and the beautiful Rai Knight ? And LSD? Swoop. But this despite the misleading title, which prompted me to cop doses and trip ballz on this beautiful Tuesday night, this song is not about drugs. I'd explain, but I'm tripping ballz, so I'm going to hit the roof and see what's good. Shoutout America. Shoutout Sweden. Shoutout Poland. Here's the press release: I know you have a crush on the lovely Detroit songbird Rai Knight, so I wanted to send you a new song she is [...]
Rai Knight will always be behind one of the more underrated, unbearably catchy tracks of the past few years. Yeah, that's an absurdly bold statement - but I'm standing strong. "New New" somehow managed to slip under the mainstream radar, which I kind of like. It feels good to be able to pull a legendary jam like that out of your back pocket and have people demand to know what it is. Right? Anyways, the tattooed Detroit-native is back on the scene with the spell-binding "Moonstruck". Be on the lookout for her second mixtape, which should be coming our way in [...]

A little while back, P&P interviewed the lovable (and I say this because I'm pretty sure she's on Confusion's list of hot indie girls) budding Detroit-based pop artist Rai Knight , who had then recently released her mixtape, Self Portrait . Knight is now preparing to release her second mixtape, which will channel a more lo-fi feel, "like discovering a Billie Holiday album for the first time." True to her word, "Moon Struck" does exactly this as Rai Knight's soft and playful voice accompanies a strolling acoustic bass and hip-hop inspired beat. It's much [...]

So we've made it to December... no more fall, no more November. We're about to be waist deep in mittens, holiday music on repeat, coke-cola polar bears and hopefully some J-mo spiked cider. To kick off this season-o-spiked-cider, we've got a jolly mix of tunes that will keep you warm until you finally bite the bullet and buy a winter coat after you lost your last one boozin too hard last February (or maybe that's just me.) Happy Holidays KickKickSnarers! We can't wait to [...]

"I'm going for real lo-fi... like discovering a Billie Holiday album for the first time. It's raw and organic, and I'm trying to connect with that emotion again while blending it with my current Urban/Pop style. The cover reflects this era I'm channeling. Hope you enjoy it." Rai, I loved you then, and I love you now, especially when you write me a new song. Not to confuse everyone, as they may not realize our relationship. It's a musically affair they wouldn't understand anyway so it's no use trying to explain. It's like you said, [...]

Rai Knight and We Are The Tay team up again to tell you what's on their mind. This is a vocalist that not only makes my hair stand, but makes me question whether or not somehow her lyrics were written by me. The thing to not underestimate here is the powerful and cosmopolitan instrument that is Rai's voice. Meaning that it's not limited to just one genre or person. She's as vulnerable (lost) as she can be flippant (found) but most credible in my eyes is her ability to allow herself to take [...]

I keep writing "Rai Knight" and stopping. Because by writing her name, so many things are automatically assumed as far as I'm concerned. Such as, it's assumed the following arrangement is about to make your day. And that it will. The following record entitled Let Me Go is a collaboration between the delectable Rai and producer We Are The Tay, a young talent living in Atlanta, originally from Detroit. This promo is rumored to foreshadow future work between the two. Rai is currently in the studio recording her debut album, and from what we've [...]

Ever since I heard " New New ," I've had a thing for Rai Knight . It was really sad when I found out she had a hubby. I still don't know what the fuck a hubby is. A boyfriend? A husband? I seriously have no idea - I think only TMZ knows the true definition. Anyway, I hired someone to kill him. Just kidding, just kidding. Why hire someone when you can throw a knife from 30+ feet with pinpoint accuracy? Just kidding, just kidding. But seriously. Ugh, I have to stop getting murderous [...]

Whoever thinks nothing new and exciting can come out of Detroit these days better think again. Take for example rising Detroit singer Rai Knight who serves up a fresh brew of pop, dance and soul with a spunky twist that invokes memories of old school Gwen Stefani and Nelly Furtado After releasing " New New " on iTunes earlier this year, Knight's latest greatest is "Let Me Go," a tune that was produced by emerging Atlanta producer We Are The Tay who's originally from Detroit as well. The woozy "Let Me Go" is a [...]
Frequent readers of ArjanWrites.com may remember that I first introduced you to Detroit pop singer Rai Knight back in July of 2010 when I featured an MP3 download of " Pivotal ." Knight is a unique talent who turns a blend of soul, trip pop and electronica into a savvy pop sound that echoes the work of hitmakers like Gwen Stefani and Nelly Furtado. Fed on a hearty diet of David Bowie, The Police, Michael Jackson and The Beatles, Rai got a taste for music when she was only nine years old [...]
