I'll admit that I'm a pretty jaded music blogger, and sometimes I tend to dislike things, just because. I wanted to write Railbird off as just another twee Brooklyn band, but I had to stop myself, because their music is undeniable. I found myself listening to their EP, Lucky , consistently throughout the month of December, and am shamefully just now mentioning them on here. Better late than never though, right? They are decidedly pop with an experimental twist, and have drawn comparisons to Dirty Projectors , which I can definitely see, [...]
Indie Pop is Pop music for for the musically inclined. This genre achieves it's "pop" status through melodic quality, while maintaining an "indie" edge through experimental sound and technique. NYC folk who are still disappointed about that canceled School of Seven Bells show back in November and didn't/couldn't make the trek out to their free show at the Sony Style Store in Long Island in December may want to clear next Wednesday on their calendars. SVIIB will play a free show at the Doc Martens' store in Union Square on January 16 . It's an after-work kind of thing (6 PM - 8 PM) and, in addition to the live performance, beverages will be provided by Goose Island and AQUAhydrate, and food [...]

DOWNLOAD : Railbird - "MIRRORs" (Posted on Consequence of Sound) Brooklyn-based experimental psych-rock band Railbird is excited to premiere a new School of Seven Bells remix of their recent single "MIRRORs" on Consequence of Sound. To Railbird, the remix is " A journey in three movements. Benjamin [of SVIIB] established his own dreamy world within the song, then dropped it while simultaneously playing with mood and meaning throughout. " Consequence agrees, stating the Benjamin's methodically slowed down version of the original jittery cut creates a " dreamy pool of contemplative reverberation and airy synth. " [...]

Brooklyn indie pop outfit RAILBIRD unleashed their Lucky EP just over a month ago, and the tracks from that slinky, twitchy bundle continue to worm their way into many a subconscious, as evidenced by the School of Seven Bells remix of "Mirrors". The original's blend of skittering Deerhoof guitar smash-ups, rap-clatter percussion, and Sarah Pendinotti's chopped vocals made for a triumphantly jittery cut. But SVIIB has methodically slowed things down, ripping out the vocal line and dropping it into a dreamy pool of contemplative reverberation and airy synth. Download [...]

This morning...an eclectic mix of new and old in different genres to start your day. Enjoy! Railbird Releases the "Lucky" EP About a year and a half ago, I saw Railbird perform at the Tipsy Teapot. They had a split set with Rex Complex where they combined to play each other's tunes. That show absolutely melted my face. It was fantastic. They were touring in support of their self-released LP, No One , which was a big departure [...]
Railbird , the Brooklyn-based experimental psych-pop band fronted by Sarah K. Pedinotti , has released a full stream of its new EP, Lucky. The EP includes two new previously unreleased songs, as well as "Jump Ship", a track that we featured earlier this year. Listen to the EP in [...]

Perhaps it's just because this week is a little on the light side or it might just be because we're in that lull between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but the new releases this week are far from the best we've seen. Don't worry, there are still plenty of gems. Rage Against the Machine have a new box set (pictured) titled XX , which is sure to please both liberals loving the band's message and conservative fans of Paul Ryan . Acts like Kevin Devine , Joan of Arc , and Railbird should help [...]

We sent a decent amount of love to Railbird in the last few months - and also booked them for one of our CMJ 2012 shows. This Brooklyn based band is gaining momentum thanks to their brainy but gently melodic composition which will enthuse fans of Dirty Projectors and Deerhoof. They recently played with Deli favorites Rubblebucket and Reptar, which definitely helped them raise their profile, and are now hitting the nail on the head with a new EP release - that's exactly what bands should do when when they have some "buzz," rather than waiting for it [...]

Railbird was definitely one of the highlights of our CMJ Music Marathon. We thoroughly enjoyed the band's show at our CMJ Electronic Stage on Thursday 10.18, when they performed their quirky and delicate songs with precision and warmth, in front of a packed room. We recently interviewed them here .

A Quick Word from the Author: If there are any ambitious students out there looking for a fun, non-paying internship this fall/winter, drop me an email — please be honest with yourself though, because I need someone who is diligent, in-tune with the "Indie Scene," and who is honestly doing this for the opportunity rather than just for the fun factor. Essentially, I'm looking for someone to help me make the Sabbath a weekly feature for about 2/3 months. I'm pretty [...]

Railbird is the kind of band that doesn't mind sharing their secrets with you, even if some of these details might make you a little nervous. Singer Sarah Pedinotti seems to whisper these tell-all remarks with a mysterious honesty requiring a certain amount of courage on both sides of the microphone. This isn't an easy-going ride, but is certainly worth the time. Latest video 'Jump Ship' (streaming below, which premiered on Brooklyn Vegan a few days ago) plays with these conflicted feelings, bouncing between intimacy and moodiness amid kaleidoscopic bubbles and cameo appearances from Sean Rowe and Phantogram's Sarah [...]
