While anxiously waiting to hear Truman Peyote 's new cassette, Everything Oozes , it doesn't hurt to get a glimpse of what the haps is via their forthcoming New Wife New Life / I'm Gonna Be Okay split 73 with the homies Turtle Ambulance . Taking the illustrious role of a b-side, "Steelstack" stays way true to a TP live show presenting a rhythmelodic structure fronted by a glitched out fanaticism of a killer carousel custom built for the most psychotic of burnt out PCP smokers. Lay back and protect ya' neck, this one is [...]

railcars a/k/a multi-instrumentalist Aria Jalali (+ Sam Farzin when on tour) has a new EP entitled Cathedral With No Eyes . The EP: recounts the life of Edmund the Martyr, a 9th century king of East Anglia with songs about his life and succession to the throne as a young boy, his conquests, his suffering at the hands of vikings and death by their arrows. Let me just say that this is hands down the best damn EP about a 9th century king of East Anglia EVER. If you like [...]

San Francisco garage-noise-pop outfit Railcars dropped their new record yesterday, a mystical collective of ferocious bouts of electro noise dubbed Cathedral With No Eyes . You may remember Railcards from our debut/premiere of "Passion Of St. Edmund (Rebirth)" , or maybe even our premature review of Cathedral With No Eyes from a month and a half ago. Frontman Aria Jalali takes noise and throws it through a lollipop dreamboat; its almost unbelievably upbeat pop nature is something that simply must be heard. [...]

You know how you have a thousand channels on your television? And a thousand stations on your satellite radio? And an infinite number of media options on the internet? That's sweet, right? I'd argue that, in reality, it sucks (kind of). This sort of fragmentation of both media and audience means that there will never (ever) be another cultural phenomenon like, say, The Beatles. Something ridiculous like half of the population saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Are The Beatles inherently "better" than, say, Radiohead? Of course not. But, more people paid attention to The Beatles, because there were way [...]

Check out a full list of tour dates below, including a show at Monkeytown in Brooklyn on November 1. railcars tour dates: 10/29 - YMCA Theater - Cambridge, MA 11/1 - Monkeytown - Brooklyn, NY 11/2 - Now That's Class - Cleveland, OH 11/6 - The [...]

Aria Jalali manages to retains the synth pop elements of his first ep, Cities vs. Submarines , on the new 123 Cathedral With No Eyes . What is added improves upon that template already laid to manifest itself as a dense, sonically packed experiment in noise. Both of the 'Passion of Saint Edmund' tracks comprising the middle of the album particularly entrap listeners in that mesmerizing daze of sonic depth. But don't think of Railcars as having gone experimental, they still have the same danceable pop songs that stay stuck in your head for days. [...]

I love noise. I love noise music, have for ages. But it's often hard to find noise that is accessible enough, where there's actually music in there somewhere. railcars are part of a genre called " shitgaze " which causes me to laugh every time I see it. Yes, it's a respectable classification. This stuff by railcars is really noisy noise/pop. Castles starts out with a great big assault to your ears and just as you're very certain you should turn this shit off it pokes in a melody to change your mind. It's also the [...]

Fingerprints are an interesting thing. They're a hard thing to lose, and even harder to identify without the proper know-how. In a way, they're symbolic of the influences that inspire musicians, and Railcars is no different. Their latest, Cathedral With No Eyes has the undeniable fingerprints of Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart in both the eccentric noise instrumentation and the vocal shouts. A while back I posted an exclusive off this album , an unmastered version of "Passion of St. Edmumd (Rebirth)". It's easy to [...]

Our homie Aria Jalali, aka Railcars has his new album up for pre-order right now! It comes out October 6th, but don't sleep on the pre-order. I know what you're thinking, "why pre-order an album when I can just buy it when it comes out?" Here's the answer: if you wait that long, you're stupid. The vinyl comes with a poster, a pin, and MP3's all for $10 (including shipping). That's some pretty good swag... But if you pre-order it you get "hella goodies." That's a direct quote from Aria. Plus, someone at random who orders a pre-sale will get [...]
The time has come to follow last year's Cities vs. Submarines ( free download ), produced by Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu, and Railcars does not in the slightest bit disappoint. Spewing some Bay area art rock on the faces of the young, Cathedral With No Eyes brings more well thought out distortion and clever transitioning to the table which creates a continuous rhythm making CWNE one psychotic fucking song. Of course if you go way of the vinyl then you've gotta flip the record, so by default it can become two. [...]

This week, our podcast features Railcars , the recording project of San Francisco's Aria C Jalali. Jalali began recording solo under his own name while at UC Berkeley, gathering a band under the Railcars moniker when he was invited to open for the Handsome Furs in early 2008. He returned to working solo to record Railcars' first 73 Cities vs. Submarines , released almost a year ago on Gold Robot Records . Recorded by Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) in his kitchen, the five-song set featured lyrics drawn from Aria's vivid [...]

We're back from Comic-Con 2009! And holy shit what a journey of epic proportions. I'll be posting pictures and a day to day "what happened" in the near future (probably tomorrow). But for now lets go over the last week of July and what is the August concert season. Tonight, Band Of Skulls conquer Café du Nord. I'd love to go to this but I'm suffering from a slight cold. BUT these guys fucking rock. Check'em out. Monday is Spinnerette (ex- Distillers ) at the Great American Music Hall, [...]
