Machines On The TV Kyp Malone, lead guitarist and some-time vocalist from TV On The Radio has gone solo, calling his new project Rain Machine. He apparently choose the name because he thought Kyp Malone wouldn't look good on a t-shirt. Anti Records announced they had signed Rain Machine last month and his first song has just been made public via Pitchfork . Kyp Malone (he of TV On The Radio and that wicked beard/afro combo) is getting set to release his solo debut record under the Rain Machine moniker. The first single, "Give Blood", was debuted over at Pitchfork today and isn't so much a radical departure from the sweaty indie-funk/soul of last year's excellent Dear Science, as much as a more aggressive, stripped down version of it. "Give Blood" is the first song from Rain Machine's self-titled debut album and is only titled like a public service announcement. Rain Machine is the solo project of TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone, and this song is a forceful display of Malone's abilities that features a variety of percussion and unconventional vocals suitable for a Tom Waits song. Take something off Rain Dogs , up the tempo and add a lot more groove, and you'll come close to "Give Blood." [ Pitchfork ]

To be frank, we had no idea that Kyp Malone had a side project outside of his band TV On The Radio, much less that he was touring in its support. Well, turns out both are the case: Malone's project is called Rain Machine, and he just got signed to Anti Records this week.
