Last night's show was a pretty even mix of fun-in-the-sun lofi and some smooth indie dance. I had a good time and if you check out the archive and listen you will understand... (hint: meatspin). Special thanks to @TheFantasticRJ for sending a lenghty list of stuff to check out. I'm right on top of that Rose. The Crayon Fields - "All the Pleasures of the World" ; With all the love we've shown lately to Canadians and Swedes it's about time music from somewhere else started filtering into what we listen to. This time out it's a couple of Aussie's making some fantastic, hushed dreampop for us to devour! Grade : B The Clientele - "I Wonder Who We Are" ; Fans of The Clientele pretty much know what they're gonna get at this point. With each new album the band [...]

Have you noticed that there's a complete and utter dearth of bands using beach / sun / surf themes these days? I'm joking, obvs. Yes, of course there's an excessive amount of that beachy vibe going around, but if you wanna turn into Old Man Grumpass about it and plug up your ears out of spite, you're going to miss some good stuff. Case in point: Olympia, WA's Rainbow Bridge and their track, "Big Wave Rider." Rainbow Bridge - "Big Wave Rider" [...]

Boogie Boarder are a Brooklyn foursome on the verge of releasing their soon-to-be-summer-splash entitled Pizza Hero ! Been psychedelic'ing out to "Bio Hassle" for a cool minute now and can't get enough of it. Album drops on June 23 and if you forget their name you need not worry because any trip to your local independent record store will result in the checking out of this quirky little album. And if not...then you're lame. Boogie Boarder - Bio Hassle Our Chi-city pal Hollywood Holt dropped a rad tune [...]

Between work and "the move", my resources have been fully obligated. The suck is now over, and I should be back on the grind. Found some rad new Fresh & Only's tunes amongst many others soaked in murky garage goodness. The Outsiders - You Mistreat Me Intelligence - Secret Signals Lenguas Largas - I Feel Rainbow Bridge - Big Wave Rider Fresh & Onlys - Happy To Be Living Fungi Girls - Crystal Roads [...]
Rainbow Bridge One of those tracks that the minute those first few chords start churning you know you're in for something good. Lazy and emotional at once, this beautiful song marries Neil Youngs' angry folk-rock with beach slacker mentality. Rainbow Bridge - Big Wave Rider ( mp3 )

Whenever you feel a lift in your step, a smile peeking from your lips, or you catch a second wave, that's Rainbow Bridge . Creating joy through unexplainable spurts of happiness. Of course...this feeling has created confusion after googl'ing the name and coming up with this: "When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends [...]

And whoosh that's us and Rainbow Bridge big wave riding the broad shoulders of a hell-bent body of wretched water that wipes entire prayer bent townships from the grubby-fingered imaginary pirate maps of dribbling childhood and it feels like coming home. Now all the realest girls are hanging ten out of cars on the shore and we're smelling bad and looking fly, babewading in the shallows. It is Summer time and there is nothing to do. Rainbow Bridge - Big Wave Riders

Apart from the fact that this was Zero's final gig, Day 1 of I-Rock was pretty unremarkable. Which is why Zero's last performance gets its own post, while the rest of the acts make do with a short piece about bad lyrics and black t-shirts. The Chitrakoot grounds are a poor replacement for Rang Bhavan and the fact that one never knows whether one will get parking there is also a pain. The competition bands were pretty mediocre across the board. Though I missed AVR, I caught the rest of the gig. Also, according to the press release [...]
