Thank you, Edinburgh, for deciding to claim producer DFRNT as your own, and having him give birth to the marvel that is Cut Records , a netlabel founded in September 2011 by the Scottish producer as a sort of cherry-on-the-sundae of is his line of work. My body ached with bass poisoned by mediocre dubstep and progressive post-ambient hipster juice the glorious day I stumbled upon Cut and had the happy coincidence of sampling Rain Dog first. It has since been months, and today is the first day I can attempt to verbalize the loss of words [...]

Earlier this year Tom Waits in person gave multi-instrumentalist David Coulter his permission to reinterpret his masterpiece Rain Dogs from 1985. Coulter, who worked with Waits on The Black Rider (1993) formed an outstanding band with singers such as Arthur H. , Camille O'Sullivan , Stef Kamil Carlens , The Tiger Lillies , Erika Stucky and special guest Jane Birkin . Quiet some reasons to go and see this extraordinary gig in Eindhoven yesterday. And after all, there's simply no reason to not go and see Jane B. whenever she's around. Unfortunately the [...]

The opening line to the Rain Dog EP captures the DIY attitude of the modern music generation; a generation with big dreams at odds with the music establishment. Rain Dog is just one releasing artist from Edinburgh based netlabel, Cut ( cutmusic.org ). Similarly, Cut is just one netlabel in an endless sea of musicians and music fans doing their own thing with the web. From DIY labels, releasing music digitally to [...]

Rain Dog See Hear Cut In his initial email regarding this release, Rebel co-bossman Taylor prefaced what I was about to hear with "pretty cerebral shit." Getting into the thick of it, I understood what he meant-the four track EP from Newcastle-based Rain Dog , out on DFRNT's increasingly top-notch imprint Cut , is rich with diverse yet cohesive sonic elements that hit you deeper than the average release. Not quite downtempo, not quite garage, Rain Dog-who classifies himself as a dubstep artist on his [...]

Today's snack sees me veer away from the sugary variety and get my chilli cracker on. Get some of these on the munch while you take in today's tuneage. Kicking things off we've got this lovely slo mo house number courtesy of spanish producer Space Duke . Time to love (Space Duke edit) by Space Duke Next up we've got a rather tasty remix of Profisee's "Movin" courtesy of Morphamish . The original surfaced on his [...]

a couple of years ago, i took a chance and posted one of my most beloved records, the raindogs' lost souls. the record has been out of print for some time, and i really wanted more people to hear it. lost souls came out 1990, and for the life of me i dont really remember how i found out about em, cause it seems that their reach, sadly, was limited to mostly the boston area. actually i may have my friend dom and his brother dan for turning me onto em. either way, like i said originally since [...]

Raindogs - Under The Rainbow I do love my country rock records. This track from The Raindogs fits the mold, but what really makes it special it the Celtic-like violin. The violin solo in the second half is truly the best part. The original poster, Captains Dead, is experiencing technical difficulties, but you can read his original post through the Google cache .

happy sunday! im debating on doing a top 100. as i peruse my hard drives and more than 1k cd's there are still so many that i could consider favorites. i would almost feel guilty not mentioning em. so, i guess onto a 100 i go. in the mean time here are 26-50. 26. raindogs - lost souls i believe 27. the replacements - tim bastards [...]

getting back to the albums i am currently mildly obsessed with. as shitty of a writer as i am, i really do hate ending sentences with prepositions, but in this case im just gonna go with it. the album in question is mark cutler's recently released red , which was released by our, meaning me, pal, mark, at 75 or less records . to put in plainly, which is my style, mr cutler should be huge, and maybe/hopefully in some area and zip codes he is, but im talking like a house hold name huge. [...]

what is up peoples? man not much here. took a cert exam this morning, and got an 895 out of 900. so, that was pretty awesome, considering i was unsure if i would even pass. it's the ol birthday, too, which honestly i'm not that psyched about, but i cant fight time, i guess. from time to time, i walk a very grey thin line. some of the demos/outtakes/etc i post are definitely suspect, especially those belonging to the beatles, keith richards and artists of the like. this post is definitely very very grey. i have never posted [...]

Digging into the vaults for this show, which closed out my run of concerts in 2006 and goes into the books as one of my favorite musical experiences for that year... As a long-time Tom Waits fan, I was super-psyched when John Common told me of the initial plans to organize a tribute at the Mercury Cafe . A cast of top-notch Denver musicians was invited to perform some of their favorite Waits tunes. To sweeten the pot (and after weeks of rehearsing), John and his band topped off the night with a [...]
