Review by Jordana Mah (@mizzjblog) Photos by David Thai (@david_thai) I have to admit, when I first heard that Our Lady Peace was coming to Vancouver, my initial thought was "they're... Read the rest on Speakerboxxx.com

I got lucky. My first show that I get to go to in Los Angeles is at the legendary Troubadour, which is tiny if you didn't know. And not only that, it's a band that made the '90s matter— Our Lady Peace . Needless, to say, I was totally and completely stoked. Preceding OLP was Raine Maida 's newest production project, Billy the Kid . This girl is cute as a button. Her performance reminds you of an innocent little girl playing rockstar in her bedroom…and [...]
Growing up in Canada, there is a short-list of bands that released music during my time there which will forever be burned into my mind, and somewhere at the top of that list is Our Lady Peace. Now releasing its seventh studio album, Burn Burn , the band finds itself with a freedom that it hasn't had in well over a decade: the freedom to take their time with a recording, record and produce it by themselves, and ultimately release it under their terms. In addition to speaking on each of these subjects, Raine Maida, lead singer and co-founder [...]

Though well known for singing "If You Talk Much (My Head Will Explode)", People in Planes conversation with Joshua , though verbose, is sure to have nothing but a positive effect on you. Joshua took some time to talk about everything from television to the 90s to being a part of sort of British Invasion with People in Plane's lead singer, Gareth Jones . Check out the interview here: Joshua, PopWreckoning: As you've been playing the new stuff live, how have you noticed the crowd [...]

My submission to Studio 23's mixtape exhibit. "The Mixtape You Never Received" is a collection of songs whose meanings have drastically changed. The theme for this stemmed from an actual mixtape I made for someone who is no longer in my life. The songs on it (a few of them are part of the tracklist below and others have been added) had one meaning when I was making it. I was never able to give them the mix and while I was looking through it recently, I saw that the songs inadvertently had their meanings changed. Listening to it now, [...]
One of the unfortunate social stereotypes of the indie scene is that sports are too mainstream and plebian for us to follow. Music is seen as the highest form of self expression for intelligent, free-willed individuals, while sporting events are brutal, caveman-like contests of unchecked violence and machismo for the uninspired masses. While this extreme viewpoint is still held by a select few of the image-protective "so-anti-hip-we're-hip" indie crowd, who apparently never got over being bullied by the jocks in high school, the majority of indie artists we've spoken to have unabashedly shared their fervor for their favorite sports teams, [...]

The photo is from the Air Guitar World Championships . 1. Raine Maida -- Careful What Yo Wish For Mr. Maida is/was the lead singer of Our Lady Peace and this is from his solo debut The Hunter's Lullaby . I hope that is is an album that doesn't end up getting ignored. This song's paino theme will get inside your head and not leave all day. 2. Hercules and Love Affair -- True False/Fake Real This is from [...]
This years American Idol winner, David Cook , actually came to the competition having an idol of his own. That idol is Raine Maida , lead singer of Our Lady Peace and well know activist. Following David's triumph on American Idol, Cook reached out to Raine for a meeting and instantly things clicked. "The songs that we wrote were, in my opinion, some of the strongest that we've done for this record," said David. The writing [...]

There are very few times in a "music writer's" life that you get to interview someone you're an uber-fan of. Once I interviewed Drowning Pool and questioned why I ever listened to music. When a chance moment comes, you brag to your friends and let everyone know how superior you are to them. Last month, I had the opportunity to talk to Raine Maida , the lead singer of Our Lady Peace , about his first solo album, the upcoming OLP record, and various other whatevers. I own [...]

It took 11 years, but The Verve is back with their first new album since 1997's Urban Hymns . Should you feel excited or just throw that info on the back burner? For now, throw that tidbit into the closet, since our own boys from Arkansas are releasing their White Lights EP - Deas Vail that would be. Don't you think it is much easier to get excited about a group that you can grow with? Me too. Also from within our borders, The [...]
