Tonight I hit the kitchen to compile the second FensePost podcast, or FenseCast, while cooking up one of my signature dishes: spicy steak enchiladas with homemade sauce. For desert, a delicious slice of gluten free cake courtesy Andi (the girlfriend), whose photo you can see above. Unlike the first podcast, this one had a range of bands that stemmed into several genres rather than focusing on garage rock and pop. Within I reminisce on one of my favorite bands of all time, occasionally hover around bedroom pop, and pass along one imperative ingredient in my homemade enchilada [...]

There must be a secret hiding place in Ramona Cordova's torso. A space where his voice finds life and gathers force; a small springboard on which it launches itself. How else could it project so strongly, so easily from this puny body? Ramona had a T-Shirt that must have been meant for an eight-year-old, it was so tight. Ramona had a straw hat and a delicate handshake. But in the tunnel of an abandoned railway, his guitar in hand, Ramona roared like thirty-five gypsies. Prepubescent gypsies, little-nephew gypsies, maybe. But little-nephew gypsies who are every bit as fiery as their [...]

Before I begin with anything let me start out by saying that pre-Friday I was very against Time Warner High Speed Internet, being it the only internet service available in my sect of Manhattan. Now...well I outright hate Time Warner and will make it a life's mission (after FMLY) to bring them down. Why? My internet has been out since Friday, still is, and now I'm sitting in a library telling you some info you may have missed over the weekend as well. Blender Magazine is no more, eliminating about 30 jobs [...]

What I failed to realize when posting on Ramona Córdova last week is that Ramon was actually the fifth edition to La Blogotheque's Take Away-Shows appearing between Jeffrey Lewis and Okkervil River, nice! The video above is a haunting yet heart warming performance of "Inside the Gypsy Bar." Leaving such a well put together man's appearance in the shadows should normally be a crime but Vincent Moon makes this tunnel walk as classy as Fashion Week. The video below is an adorable struggle to accomplish " Chesser ," my favorite tune off of [...]

Written by Fense Ramona Córdova ( MySpace ) is a folk artist. But he's a very nontraditional one. Like my recent post on DZR:P, Ramona tends to favor the falsetto voice, but unlike DZR:P, he tends to not only be in-tune, but he comes off sounding somewhat similar to Visit, the Asian opera singer from this year's season of Bravo's Top Design . (Note that the prior statement is meant as a great compliment; while Visit was somewhat odd, he was an amazing [...]

Todd Snider's new record, Peace Queer , is available for a limited time as a free download here . Here's his new cover of "Fortunate Son". Fortunate Son ---- Also Ramona Cordova's brilliant record The Boy Who Floated Freely has just been made available as a free download along with the demo versions of certain songs here . Inside the Gypsy Bar Gypsy Lounge demo

I was one of the biggest, earliest supporters of Ramona Cordova . I thought his music was mysterious (like a fairy tale) and his lyrics clever. His album, The Boy Who Floated Freely , was a concept record about a boy who washed up on an island inhabited by gypsy's. DZR:P reminds me a bit of Ramona Cordova except that they sing mostly out of tune, have a lot of songs about ice cream, short ribs and donuts and aren't afraid to be photographed in a banana suit. [...]
Ramona Córdova on yhdysvaltalaisen laulaja-lauluntekijä Ramón Vicente Alarcónin (synt. 1984) projekti, jonka hän on nimennyt isoäitinsä mukaan. The Boy Who Floated Freely ( ECA Records / Clapping Music ) on teema-albumi, joka on rakennettu Giver -pojasta kertovan unenomaisen tarinan ympärille.
