Portland-band, Lost Lander , has caught my ear in a bear trap called fusion. "What type of fusion?", you may ask. "What the hell does that mean?" you will more likely ask. Well... I suppose it means they've got my attention and aren't letting go. Lost Lander fuses the sounds of Fleet Foxes , Broken Bells and a whole lot of their own flavor. Matt Sheehy has done his share of solo work, as well as work the band Ramona Falls , formerly Menomena (previously featured on MTIB), but for whatever reason this [...]

While we may not feature every mashup ever done, we have completely love and respect for the guys at The Hood Internet . Being one of the firsts to establish themselves as indie mashup artists, The Hood Internet continues to release fresh concoctions between the different worlds of music. They recently released an album of their best remixes and mashup over the last couple of months. It includes original productions, including tracks by BBU, Freddie Gibbs, and Ninjasonik, as well as remixes of artists from Foster the People to Ramona Falls. Visit Bandcamp [...]
Let's face it, the spooky Halloween sound effects from elementary school isn't going to cut it any more. The "Monster Mash" has been smashed and the only good version of "I've Put a Spell on You" comes from the Disney hit Hocus Pocus. So a few of the writers here have decided to take matters [...]

I figured with my previous show being devoted to songs that remind me of sleep, this one would be the opposite. After a few bouts of standard indie rock, things got thick and loud. A shout out to my buddy Brett, for tuning in from Sedro-Woolley. Next time I'll have to add Tullycraft to the list in honor of how we met. The show began with a song off one of my desert island top 5 albums, and ended with a track that's nearly thirty years old. [...]

Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]

Blogophilia 7 was posted in July 2009, and it represents the last mix from the old Dadada site. This is a fun mix with tracks from Ramona Falls , Elliott Brood , Local Natives , Heartless Bastards , Drummer (which was a band full of drummers), and the Dead Prez/Grizzly Bear mashup, Two Weeks of Hip Hop . Go get it while it's there! It will be down in one week. Blogophilia Vol. 7 encoded at 256 VBR (Zip File 151 MB) [...]

Our lovely friend Cherilyn MacNeil aka Dear Reader is finally back. Two years have gone by since her depute album " Replace Why With Funny " came out, but Cherilyn has been quite busy. She moved from her hometown Johannesburg to Berlin, her band mate Darryl Torr left the band, she kept on making music and now her new album will be out on September 2. Brent Knopf ex member of the band Menomena and now Ramona Falls is the producer, " Idealistic Animals " is the title and different kind [...]

Cold Feet , the first release off of Lost Lander's upcoming debut album DRRT is a riveting kick-off to a sultry summer soundtrack. Dense yet ethereal, intimate yet globe-trekking; this stirring and lushly textured piece of flawless songcraft is the brainchild of Portland Oregon's Matt Sheehy (Ramona Falls) and deftly produced by Ramona Falls' Brent Knopf (formerly of Menomena). Although there's a moving sense of pathos pervading the overall atmosphere of the song, it's reverentially counterbalanced by an ever-present anthemic yowl of hope and triumph. Fans of Peter Gabriel, Band of [...]

When I try to get away, you always give me the slip. Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.
DEERHOOF, NEAL MORGAN (6 PM); DEERHOOF, BEN BUTLER AND MOUSEPAD (9:30 PM) ( Holocene , 1001 SE Morrison) The swirling art-pop sounds of Deerhoof are no stranger to Portlanders; that's why the charismatic San Francisco band is pulling a double shift tonight in support of their new Deerhoof vs. Evil recording. The first show is for the kiddies, then things get boozy for a 21-plus performance. EZRA ACE CARAEFF LOCH LOMOND, RAMONA FALLS [...]

Two weeks ago, we announced—along with the rest of the Internet—that B rent Knopf, one of the three original members of Menomena, was leaving the band to focus on his solo project and on recording a few records for his friends. Since then, Menomena has mostly keep quiet, but both Knopf and Seim were kind enough to answer some of my questions on record about the future of Menomena. Here are the important bits from my email conversations with two of Portlands best (and most forthcoming) musicians. WW: Why did the band decide to carry [...]

Menomena had one of, had their best year last year with its release of the album, "Mines ", and Brent as well, releasing both Mines with his mates as well as his own solo debut album with his band Ramona Falls . He has just announced on twitter he has left the band Menomena to concentrate on his own solo (Ramona Falls) efforts. Big news here tonight in P-Town. Brent is very talented guy I'm sure he will have success in his own effort, he already has in fact. Loved his debut album. [...]
This past summer Hamilton, Ontario-based MC and producer Emay dropped an EP's worth of tracks with his Emay, Karen, and the Kids album . Reworking tracks from Karen O's (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) contribution to the Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack, it wasn't long before Emay began a new project: Seeing Suge; a collaboration between the MC, California-based producer Blackbird Blackbird, and UK-based producer Star Slinger. Pigeons and Planes commented on the group's lead single, " Breaking ," noting its "lush backdrop filled with a mix of electronic [...]

Ramona Falls is the new music project by Brent Knopf. Brent, a Portland Oregon native, is also one-third of the band Menomena. Ramona Falls' debut album is called Intuit . The project took shape after Menomena's recording process for their third album was delayed. Knopf embarked on this project that gave him the opportunity to work with 35 other musicians from the Portland and New York areas. Ramona Falls is named after a waterfall located near Oregon's Mt. Hood, a place where Knopf used to hike as a child. [...]
If you're an avid reader of Muzjiks, you're already aware of my adoration for Menomena's Mines ; indeed, I consider it the current frontrunner for album of the year. Like all great albums, it not only functions as a cohesive unit, but it also reveals itself gradually over time with repeated listens yielding continued rewards. The layering of melodies and timbres, the musicianship (see: drumming), the vocal harmonies (see: the climax of TAOS), the cryptically universal lyrics akin to the work of Thom Yorke—it's all bloody brilliant. Now, what you may or may know about this [...]
So Menomena made their TV debut a few nights ago on Fallon. They seemed to be a bit nervous but were great nonetheless. They performed the dramatic cut, "Killemall," from their new album Mines . Unfortunatley, NBC is a bunch of prudes with their video so I found a better version from KEXP. As a bonus, I have included a mp3 of Ramona Falls' (Brent Knopf's side project) "I Say Fever." So, with the adage in mind that brevity is the soul of wit, I'll keep this short and to the point: Ramona Falls's album "Intuit" is easily one of the greatest albums I've heard in a long, long time. "But how's that possible?" you might ask. "I thought music like that was a myth these days...like unicorns, and 12 grain bread that doesn't taste like squirrels?" I was beginning to think so too, but apparently I was being preemptively cynical. The closest analogy I can think of for what listening to this album [...]

Artist: Menomena From: Portland, OR Sound: Mix and match grooves, circular melodies, pop songs evolved Similar Artists: Flaming Lips, TV on the Radio, Morphine, Oneida Listen: "Five Little Rooms" I Am the Fun Blame Monster! , Friend and Foe , Mines …even the wizards of pun-crammed headlines over at the New York Post couldn't dream up bursts of copy this clever. These aren't just album titles, they're spot-on [...]
Official | myspace | Buy on itunes This is my favorite song from the Portland band, Ramona Falls. I downloaded it awhile ago without really listening to it and then it played on itunes shuffle and was one of those songs where I actually made the effort to stop what I was doing to check what the song was. Now that I have finally remembered this band I have been loving this song and I enjoyed watching the video as well. I know from far too many experiences how [...]
