No one buys albums anymore, goes the music industry truism. And yet, for all that the format's commercial viability may or may not be on the wane, sitting and listening to a great album from start to finish is one of the greatest pleasures that music can bring. Flavorwire recently got to thinking about how one might build a record collection if you really only did buy one record a year. So here's the result of our thought exercise: 50 albums you really should own, one a year from 1963 until the present day. Yes, of course this mean things [...]

One of the most exciting bands I had the pleasure of seeing (twice) at SXSW was Jacksonville, Florida rock band, THE PINZ , who were in Austin to promote their latest EP, ANTI-COMPLACENCY LEAGUE. Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive Gino DePinto, AOL At last, our saga with Andrew W.K. and Marky Ramone comes to an end. After they talked drumming, G.G. Allin , pasta and Playtex wipes , we're wrapping up our interview series with an important topic, especially for New Yorkers: Pizza. Marky starts off the conversation by revealing why he couldn't stand living in Manhattan and [...]
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive Gino DePinto, AOL Marky Ramone has one of those old-school Brooklyn accents you just don't hear among younger people in the city anymore. Just listen to the way he pronounces the word "pasta" -- it's definitely not "pah-stah." The reason we know this is because of Andrew W.K. brought up the fact that Marky has his own pasta sauce, Marky Ramone's Brooklyn's [...]

>> Bursting forth with the ferocity of Link Wray 's meanest, tobacco-spitting moments comes Boston's Royal Wedding . The trio's dilapidated, guttural, rockabilly skronk quickly drew us into its latest release, Inhabitants , which was released to the wilds of the Internerds last month. The EP, available as a pay-what-you-like download from Bandcamp right here , touts six skeletal and electrifying numbers. Echoed, harsh and dangerous-sounding effects fly from each instrument, but paint-by-numbers rock-shock sleaze Royal Wedding is not. Each song from the threesome's EP carries wisps of driving, atonal no-wave, like opener "S.C.U.M," [...]

Joey Ramone, St.Marks Place NYC 1981 It’s time again for Friday on My Mind , our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. This upcoming Monday April 15th will mark the anniversary of Joey Ramone’s passing so today we’re looking at our favorite Ramones’ videos. On May 19, 1951, Jeffry Ross Hyman was born and raised in an area of Queens, New York called Forest Hills. During his teens, he attended Forest Hills High School which [...]

This cover would make a great subject for a Sesame Street "One of these things is not like the others..." segment. One of the nice side-effects of writing this blog is that I'm reminded that I hadn't noticed new releases by groups I had followed for a while, and such is the case with Sahara Hotnights. I was really into their first couple of albums, but over the past few years they'd managed to be pushed aside as other albums came along to gain my attention. So when I had the thought to [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , In House Gino DePinto, AOL When Marky Ramone and Andrew W.K. stopped by our New York office to discuss their upcoming Blitzkrieg tour, we had an idea: What if Andrew conducted the interview instead of us? After thinking our request over for a second or two, Mr. W.K. decided he loved the idea. Marky did too, and now you can see the results below. [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , The Hit List Getty The documentary " Searching For Sugar Man " received the Oscar for Best Documentary in February. It's about a singer named Rodriguez who was virtually unknown in his home country of the U.S., but was incredibly popular in South Africa and it's only now thanks to the movie's success that North Americans are doubling back and figuring [...]

It's unfortunate that The Everly Brothers aren't as fawned upon by the current generation of music fans as the acts that were heavily influenced by them. The duo, who are arguably the most successful recording duo of all-time, were known for their close harmony singing which fused early rock and roll with country and folk, and have been name checked by everyone from Simon & Garfunkel to The Beach Boys to The Beatles. As a way of paying homage to the work of Phil and Don Everly, the duo of Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Dawn McCarthy , [...]

Surviving Ramones drummer Marky Ramone and Andrew W.K. will perform over 30 hits from the seminal New York punk outfit's catalogue across the world this summer. Ramone has recruited Andrew WK to serve as the new lead singer of the Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg, and they'll begin their travels together this May in the Big Apple. “I first met Andrew through a mutual friend and he told me about his party philosophy, which has also always been my exact take on life," Ramone states in a press release. "We went into the rehearsal studio and it [...]

Matt Skiba has likened his band’s latest record to “an apology note set to music,” but when I say this is a return to form for Alkaline Trio you better believe it. After trying a little too hard to appease the braying masses last time out, ‘My Shame Is True’ feels like the record fans of the Chicago three-piece have been waiting for. The, Ramones-influenced, ‘She Lied To The FBI’ opens up the record in style. Its simple chord progression, catchy chorus and poppy melody rid me of any doubts I may have had and each track that [...]
Arturo Vega art show of Day-Glow Swastika. This was the first time these had been publicly shown since the 70s. This art is also mentioned in the book Please Kill Me by Legs McNeil.
