How many times, so far, have you watched Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited trailer? I think here at the A.D. home offices we are up to around, oh, ten, give or take a few. Back in 2005 Wes Anderson was the first filmmaker profiled in our (presently on hiatus) series A Soundtrack Enthusiast. For [...]
The Kinks | "This Time Tomorrow" As i'm sure most of you know by now, the trailer for Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited premiered in glorious quicktime a few days ago. I've been waiting for so long to see what this newest Wes Anderson venture would look like in motion from the many images and posters I had seen so far. It's great to see from the trailer that the same humor, tone and choice of music still fit [...]
After the last post I feel the need to clear up my reputation. Andrew Bird - The Happy Birthday Song Sufjan Stevens - Happy Birthday The Beatles - Birthday The Ramones - Happy Birthday (from the Simpsons)

There has been a lot of attention paid lately to the Summer Of Love and its 40th anniversary, accompanied by a number of special albums and DVDs featuring the music of that era. That might have been part of the motivation for this boxed set, Chasing The Sun - The Greatest Songs Of Summer, from Time-Life. However, in this case they've put together a huge collection of music that is not specific to 1967 - in fact it covers several decades - and in doing so, they're provided something for almost everyone. [...]

So a forty-foot tall being of cosmic power shows up on your doorstep, eyeing your planet's biosphere hungrily and smacking his lips, what do you do? You could steal an Ultimate Nullifer and use it as leverage in hard-nosed negotiations, or perhaps offer one's services to the being in exchange for sparing your homeworld. Depending on one's connections in the superhero scene, you might even be able to use a brute force method combining some mystic arts mojo with straightforward physical violence . Another approach would be to mope around planetside [...]

College Music Journal is reporting that punk legends, The Ramones, will have their logo emblazoned on Converse All-Stars as part of a new line offered by the shoe giants, beginning today! Something tells me that the folks over at Doc Martens are kicking themselves right about now. MP3: The Ramones - Do You Remember Rock 'N Roll Radio? (via [...]

I might be the last person on the block not to have seen Spider-Man 3 at this point. Cut me some slack though...I have been listening to the soundtrack, which while not a Tarantino production is a pleasing mix of some newer artists with new songs, as well as a dusty gem right out of the jukebox - The Twist by Chubby Checker . Reviews I've seen for it (the movie) are all over the board. So what's the consensus? Anyone out there got 2 cents to share? Is [...]
Happy belated birthday Joey... It was the annual Joey Ramone birthday bash this weekend in New York. If he hadn't been taken out by Lymphoma, Joey woulda been been 56 this week... Amongst those that played the bash were the two surviving members of the New York Dolls, and the Chesterfield Kings, a psych revival band originally from Rochester NY, whose lead singer sold me my first Van Halen album at the House of Guitars some 25+ years ago... Ironically, Joey Ramone was outlived by all these folks, and his onetime idol, [...]

Love Is A Mix Tape just absolutely knocked my socks off. I devoured this book in one weekend and enjoyed every single page, heartily . This is ostensibly a book about mix tapes, and looking back at a life spent seeing the world in a series of 45-minute vignettes (then, of course, you flip the tape over). Rob Sheffield has penned an honest (yet wildly entertaining) book that affected me more deeply than any book I've read in recent memory, woven throughout with a genuine and bleeding love for music. It's electric. [...]

Shrek the Third opens today. Here is a look at the trilogy soundtracks, including a homonym, a Bonnie Tyler cover, a punk classic and a Black-Eyed Pea singing about fish. The Proclaimers ~ I'm On My Way (yep, a homonym) Jason Wade ~ You Belong to Me Buy One from Amazon Rich Price ~ I'm On My Way (yep, a homonym) [...]

Unlike that other recent box office busting trilogy , the Shrek series has always made the music a more vital part of the storytelling. The subversion of the faerie tale is the theme, and the corresponding soundtracks find ways to do this trick as well. I personally found a lot of joy in hearing my then 5-year old neice hum along to Tom Waits , Nick Cave and singing her little heart out to The Buzzcock's "Ever Fallen In Love" (even if it was a watered-down [...]

Lors de la virée londonienne, en pleine boîte de nuit, un autochtone m'avait interpellé alors que je fermais l'oeil accoudé au bar. Hey, you look like Spiderman.

I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to my introduction and subsequent love affair with punk rock. I was in my late teens, and at that time, my musical tastes leaned towards Top 40 and rap. I was a child of the 80's and I worshipped a lot of the New Wave music of that era, as well as what is now known as old school rap. One of my best friends was a punk aficionado and after months of trying, he finally got me to cave in and listen to some tracks by bands such [...]
