Frank Yang It seems a bit counter-intuitive to travel all the way to Iceland to see a bunch of Canadian bands, but then there's also something to be said about the sense of camaraderie one gets from hanging out with one's countrymen in such a foreign setting. So after finally getting to sample some of Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur's famous wares - those are hot dogs, by the by - and a bit of souvenir shopping, Saturday afternoon was largely spent at the Hressingarskálinn cafe where Canadian Blast had pitched a tent to showcase [...]
The official lineup for the sixth year of Montreal's M for Montreal festival was announced this morning, and there are some big names this year. M83, Cadence Weapon, Active Child, Karkwa, and Random Recipe will be hitting the stage during the festival's four days. In case you're not familiar, M for Montreal is a boutique festival, in the mold of England's Great Escape, that aims to bring more attention to Montreal artists. They've expanded in recent years to give shine to Canadian artists in general, and also bands that would appeal to Francophiles (like M83, for instance). The [...]

Random Repice - Ship Wreck - Download

Random Recipe is hip-hop for people who lament the state of hip-hop. I tried to upload "Shipwreck" for ye, but I'm having some issues with the server (and if you know me at all you know my way of fixing this is to say "fuck it I'm never using a computer again"). So here's an album streamy, and you can download "Shipwreck" fer free at their website . Montreal in the hizzy! http://www.randomrecipe.ca/

Y'all all know how much I love Beast ...right? I saw them way way way back when I used to live in Edmonton at the tiniest venue that is the Pawn Shop. In the review that I gave directly after the show, I said that it was one of the best shows I've seen ever. And you know what, after tonight, I guess I'll have to take that back because shiiiiiiiiiiet tonight had NOTHING on the Pawn Shop show. After the jump for videos, music, and petit recap! [...]

Having no more than just over a month, after today, I realised that I haven't recovered from Bonnaroo, MJF, and Flying Lotus (yes it counts as it's own event it was sooo epic). My feet hurt. My ankles hurt. My toes hurt. My whole body is numbed from cycling place to place, dancing from floor to floor, and naturally and in style, giving it my all. Today proved to be an awesome start to MEG Montreal, with a free BBQ (I ate three hot dogs...ugh-first hot dogs I have had in a loooong while that weren't tofu), a great venue [...]

I. Am. Back! My place is finally finished in terms of painting. One of my walls is electric orange aka awesome orange aka the happiest color ever. And it makes me smile and I zone out sometimes in bliss just staring at my perfect wall...aaah...oh...right. The news! So Osheaga is upon us...yet another festival here in MTL which boasts headliners such as Coldplay, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The Roots from the 30th until the 2nd of August. Beastie Boys was one of the headliners but you folks don't need me to tell you the bad news [...]

Alright today was jam packed. The performances that stole the day...That 1 Guy and Montréal's own, Random Recipe! Recap after the jump! This man is insane. Using what he calls a "magic pipe", he does everything with just his hands and feet. Pressing buttons for sound effects, the pedal for the snare and drum beat. A trained bass player, he turned the magic pipe into an upright bass, employing his talent into a more creative and innovative medium. There was so much energy in [...]
