#20: Blue Scholars - Cinemetropolis (Self-Released) Not many people have heard of the Blue Scholars, or their 2011 release Cinemetropolis, and I'm not sure why not. My theory is that they're so ingrained in Seattle that most people can't relate to their music. The other reason could be that they are just content being [...]

Music bloggers love lists and regrettably, I'm not different. So to give the year some closure, it's only right if I list off my favourite musical moments of the calendar year. I'll start off with my 15 Favourite Albums of 2011 and then in a couple days time I'll put up my 25 Favourite Songs of 2011 . Just to reiterate, this is merely my humble opinion; nothing more, nothing less. I've only got one set of ears and simply can't listen to all the excellent music to justify any hyperbolic claims. The over-saturation of the online musical scene makes [...]

2011 was a real chicken-and-egg kind of year in music. Was there really less amazing music or did everything sound a little duller because it was a difficult year for me personally? Was there less sonically interesting music in 2011 or was it because I cut way back on listening to music with headphones? Was there less originality or is it because we're so bombarded with music all the time that it just takes so much more to cut through the sheer volume? While it may have been for personal reasons, it did seem as though 2011 was [...]
By: David Schultz 30. The Occupy Wall Street "Concerts" This fall, New York City's Zuccotti Park became the literal and spiritual home base for the Occupy Wall Street movement. The presence of the protesters, their message and goals as well as their modus operandi sparked significant debate and the vociferous nature of the movement and reaction from various law enforcement agencies drew
The Top on this list was rotated a lot before I reached a definite conclusion. There are even some which I had to leave out cause I doubt that anyone wanted to read about 20 albums. So yeah here are my favorite albums this year. 2011 Top Ten Albums of the Year: [...]
Listen to all four discs of new Dylan covers from My Morning Jacket, Patti Smith, Kesha, Queens of the Stone Age, the Avett Brothers, the Gaslight Anthem, and dozens more!
#75-50 75.Statik Selectah ft Joel Ortiz & Brother Ali- Damn Right Brother Ali might have the most underrated guest verses of all time. I never hear anyone talking about his cameos, yet when he blesses it's lovely. Might be the underground Andre 3k. That's how memorable his verses are. Joel delivers a dope verse as well. The beat is cold to, Ali needs more of this on his [...]
"Ghetto retro"? When I first read the genre Baby Jaymes placed himself under, I had to wonder what this category of music actually sounds like. After giving one listen to his soulful, fun-loving rendition of 50 Cents ' "21 Questions", I was convinced this is a genre I could take a great liking to, enough that I'd feel convicted to share it with all of you. Baby Jaymes - 21 Questions A meld of funk, pop, and hip hop -- with an emphasis [...]

Raphael Saadiq - Go to Hell Raphael Saadiq's album, Stone Rollin, is by far my favorite release of 2011. Kitty, Dasey and Lewis, is a close contender though. I personally can't get enough of Mr. Saadig's album. Check it out. Peace. http://www.raphaelsaadiq.com/u s/home

Tweet What is it about soul music that makes it feel so, well, complete? I always feel like I'm getting the whole package when I listen to someone like Stevie Wonder or any artist that could fall under Motown . Even if the songs are about the deepest of the blues, I tend to wear a grin because there is something so universal to the sound. It's how I felt within seconds of listening to The Slims , full of [...]
![Allen Stone – Allen Stone [ALBUM REVIEW]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3775699_lg.jpg)
Allen Stone 's third self-titled album was released on Wednesday. On both Spotify and iTunes combined, I've listened to the album eleven times. I think my office mate hates me. I remember one time I accidentally clicked the first song on the album, though I was listening to the fourth or fifth song, and I went back to the beginning of the album. And I didn't even care. Well anyway. I love hearing this guy live any chance I can get, which isn't as often as I'd like, so undoubtedly the next best thing to hearing [...]

Poised for action. The great thing about the old school Nokia cell phone was that it doubled both as communication technology and communicative weaponry. Someone says something gnarly about your mom to your face? Throw your boulder of a Nokia cell phone in his/her face like you know JWoww did when she used to beat up girls like Sammy in high school. Message received! RAPHAEL SAADIQ He's old school in the New School, if you know what I mean. [...]
