The highlight for this week is The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole , the debut album from former Haste The Day vocalist Jimmy's new band Trenches . It's well worth picking up. Aside from that, there are live releases from Avenged Sevenfold and Unwritten Law and new stuff from Jonezetta , All That Remains , Hootie and the Blowfish's Darius Rucker (whaaaaaat?) and Portugal, the Man . :: Adventure , Adventure (Carpark) :: Alexander Tucker , Portal [...]
Man I wish I could keep up with it all but its been just enjoyable listening. Ill just give a quick shout out to what I been enjoying lately. Ne-Yo- Year of The Gentleman Kardinall Offishall- Not for Sale Solange-Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams Rapheal Saadiq- Way I am This is what is up right now will try to be more in depth on why each of them have occupied my ears lately.

Sorry for the very, very late notice on this one, but I just found out about what seems like a pretty sweet deal going on tonight. According to this blog , Motown-like crooner Raphael Saadiq is apparently going to be in town tonight and stopping by Glo Lounge to host a free meet-and-greet and listening party for his new disc, The Way I See It , which earns national release tomorrow. The 42-year-old Oakland-born singer is often associated with the neo soul sound, although, really his style is far more [...]

Here is some new Raphael Saadiq from his forthcoming album, The Way I See It . The album drops September 16th, and features Saadiq producing songs a la 60's soul and pop, i.e., the music sounds the way Saadiq looks in the pics. It's been getting some strong reviews, and an ever so coveted "Jay-Z Remix" of "Oh Girl" will reportedly be on the album as well. For now, check out "100 Yard Dash" after the jump, courtesy of Soul Sides .

Raphael Saadiq: 100 Yard Dash From The Way I See It (Sony, 2008) Having been in the music industry since the '80s, Raphael Saadiq has been a part of numerous hits, whether his own solo work, with Tony! Toni! Toné!, or by others (D'Angelo, Bilal, Joss Stone, John Legend and Mary J. Blige). "The Way I See It" sees Saadiq reach way back to that sound of sweet soul music of the '60s with its proclaimed Downtown Sound. The inspiration for the album came while Saadiq was [...]
Raphael Saadiq - Big Easy
Raphael kept it simple........maybe a little too simple?
For his single, "Love that Girl." This record is going to be so good. So good! Time flies, I can't believe it's coming out next month. You can currently buy "Love That Girl" on iTunes: I need to get off of the computer now.

Oh this is what we like a bit of old school flavor! Raphael Saadiq takes it back to the 60's with 'Love That Girl' which is taken from his forthcoming album ''The Way I See It', in stores on September 16th. It sounds very interesting!

Raphael Saadiq is dropping some more heat on folks who love quality Soul Music with a new album dropping September 16, 2008, The Way I See It (on Columbia Records). He's been doing this thing with Soul and R&B Music as a writer, singer and producer since the late 1980s with the group Tony! Toni! Toné! , his solo ventures (the Ray Ray album of his is a criminally slept gem on due to the distribution on the label at the time - I think the [...]
Raphael Saadiq- "Dance Tonight" So I, along with most the HR, went to see Raphael Saadiq and Janelle Monae @ Bimbo's 365 in SF this past Wednesday. I knew it would be fresh... Janelle Monae- "Smile" I know Janelle recruited legions of fans after this performance. She held it down with unbelievable amounts of energy. The show would have been even more perfect if she did my favorite song . Raphael Saadiq- "Still Ray" The new material off Saadiq's upcoming album is inexplicable... [...]

Same deal with the Lykke Li Show as there was hoops to jump through to get in. 1. Tickets were sold out online, must pay at door. First come first served. 2. Came 2 hours early, and show was sold out. 3. Luckily I have volunteered for the booker of the show, so I went through the back to ask for the booker (the employees didn't like me around giving me dirty looks) 4. The booker cut me a deal to put me and Justa's name on guestlist, but we still had to pay (No [...]

One of my favorite R&B singers is Sam Cooke. Something about the smooth and simple sound of 50's and 60's soul music has a place in my heart. When I received word that Raphael Saadiq album is bringing back the old Mo-Town sound in contrast to this asshole and R&B in general with his new album "The Way I See It", it raised an eyebrow. Listening to "100 Yard Dash" from his album is the exact replica sound you would expect from the soul era: Back up singers, simple love storytelling, live instrumentation, well under 3 minutes, [...]
Are you in some retro-soul withdraw since James Hunter came through a month ago? Don't want to pay $85 to see Sharon Jones ? Producer Raphael Saadiq ( myspace ) doesn't have a whole lot of solo songs of solo songs released yet-in fact his debut solo release comes out September 16-but from what I've heard on his myspace and elsewhere, his show tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20, at Bimbos ($22, 21+) seems like it'll be a lot of fun. His sound hearkens back to the Motown-era in a big way. His production [...]
Multi-talented singer/ songwriter/ producer (and former Tony! Toni! Tone! frontman) Raphael Saadiq should be as big as the R. Kelly's and Usher's at this point. Alas, the world isn't fair so he's usually relegated as a favorite for critics and serious '90's/ 00's R&B junkies; but the buzz surrounding his upcoming The Way I See It, an homage to 60's soul that sounds so spot-on it's hard not to

It has been a long time that Q-Tip (a.k.a., the Abstract) has been promising his fans a "proper" sophomore release. An extraordinarily long time. In fact, it has been nine years since Q-Tip dropped his solo debut Amplified . Well, fear not kids because the Abstract is prepping to bring you The Renaissance in a mere two-and-a-half months time. According to Billboard , the release date is set for October 14 , but we'll have to wait to see if the album actually hits the shelves as [...]
