Raphael Saadiq returns with this fourth studio album, Stone Rollin' , after great success with his last, The Way I See It , in 2008. A figurehead for the Motown sound revival, Saadiq has gone harder and explored a wider variety of genres with this record, pushing forward into 70s soul, R&B, early Rock 'n' Roll and the fact that all these genres pull together to make a cohesive and great album shows the sheer talent he possesses. "Heart Attack" opens the proceedings in a loud and brash way, a Sly and The Family Stone [...]

Raphael Saadiq's fourth studio album, Stone Rollin', comes out May 10. Last month at the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, Texas, Raphael Saadiq visited our pop-up studio for a spirited performance of songs from his new album, Stone Rollin'. It was an impressive session, especially for the early-morning hour when we broadcast the show live on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic back in Los Angeles. In between sets, I spoke with Saadiq about the particulars of writing and recording the new album, performing with Mick Jagger at this year's Grammys, and the quality of musicians he surrounds himself [...]

If the album's singles have been any indication, Raphael Saadiq has another winner on his hands with Stone Rollin' . But maybe you don't want to just go off the strength of " Good Man " and the title track . Fair enough. And for you folks, Saadiq has linked with NPR to offer the entire album for streaming until it drops next Tuesday. I'm several tracks in and it's sounding solid already, especially "Go to Hell." Which musical era will he choose to conquer next? Head to NPR to stream [...]

Day Two of Coachella is like a second tour of duty: by now you know where the ATM is, where the good snacks are, and how to get in the checkpoint line that has the most gullible security guard. And parking is easier, because half the cars have been safely lodged in a campsite zone the night before. Still, it took us a couple hours to roll in, which meant I started Saturday already kind of hating myself, having missed the Henry Clay People and a slew of other talents. Then again, the people who had been here for hours [...]

While gearing up for the release of his new studio album Stone Rollin' (May 10th), Raphael Saadiq has announced new dates to his US tour (see routing below). The Stone Rollin' tour, which kicked off this spring included performances at SXSW and most recently, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival , where Saadiq wowed crowds with his soulful throwbacks. So many Ray Ray related infos to share with you that I've decided to post them all in a single post. Some of you might know Raphael Saadiq was in Paris again this week, to perform four different shows to support the recent release of his fourth studio album "Stone Rollin'" . I was lucky enough to attend two of them on wednesday, though I had to skipped thursday's concert for a chance to see the incredibly talented Quadron instead. Though I enjoyed both of Raphael's gigs, as he was backed by a super tight [...]
What a way to shake up the monotony of the day by listening to some new Raphael Saadiq. He is one of those artists who songs replicates the music I grew up on so well that I may even give the album to my parents to rock out to. This isn't new in the internet [...]

Oakland musician Baby Jaymes releases his new single "Heart & Soul". Background: Born and bred in Oakland, CA singer/songwriter Baby Jaymes grew up with soul music running through his veins. He is a seasoned musical veteran with a critically-acclaimed album, The Baby Jaymes Record, as well as collaborations with his mentors, Bay Area R&B legend Raphael Saadiq of Tony! Toni! Toné! and funk innovator George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic. There's an edge to his music and arrangements that lead many to compare him to Prince, George Clinton, and Andre 3000, and his unique sound [...]

Since I first heard Quik is the Name the spring of 1989, DJ Quik has stayed one of my favoirte artist. I remember almost nine years later when I saw a Circuit City ad for Rhytm-al-ism being released that the upcoming week and just smiling for like 3 minutes straight holding the ad. Some friends of mine a few months later even got me the promo poster for the album later that year(pause). In celebration of his new album The Book of David being released today, [...]

I was fortunate enough to catch Raphael Saadiq with my boo last Friday over at the Regency Ballroom SF. The show was more than I expected. Saadiq covered all his greatest hits plus a few new ones. Also worth mentioning was the band, they're off the hook! I mean OFF THE HOOK! Highlight for me was when the band played this steppers groove I never heard before while Saadiq went in for a wardrobe change. Had me wanting more. The only let down of the night was Qaudron. I really do like this group, but [...]
Filed under: News , Video , New Music , Exclusive , New Releases Columbia Mixing soul and classic rock, guitar-toting singer Raphael Saadiq is the new face of a musical revival, exuding the stage presence of Sam Cooke and the blues chops of B.B. Who: Raphael Saadiq in the Gobi tent In 3 Words Or Fewer: Stone Rollin' soul I'll Remember This Until: I find another soul artist who can rock a turtleneck in this desert weather. Raphael Saadiq had someone serving as both his hype man and backing vocalist, but neither was particularly necessary. Combining R&B, soul and now throwbacks to Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, the 44-year-old crooner made the breezy night feel like a cozy club with his sexy, danceable tunes. From the moment the charismatic singer/songwriter/producer walked onstage [...]
I don't need to really tell you much about this guy; he's a soul beast. His new album Stone Rollin' is coming out in May and it's out already in the UK. Get that stuff, seriously.
Pour lire la version française de cet article, rendez-vous sur ce billet . --- It was quite a sunny day in Paris, and this great spring/summer feeling was indeed all over the place. This, I will easily remember, and I guess 10 years from now, I'll still be able to recount this day without missing any single detail. Because that was THE day. March 30, 2011 it was, and the very moment when my deepest, softest, biggest dream would finally come true was about to happen. The most meaningful of all, [...]
