Since we last left Camp Bisco, happening July 7-9, a lot has changed to only add value to this already stellar party. If The Disco Biscuits, Cut Copy, Death From Above 1979, Wiz Khalifa, Bassnectar, Ghostland Observatory, Rusko, Yeasayer, Neon Indian, MSTRKRFT and more already announced were not enough, well Camp Bisco has you covered [...]

It's that time of year again and HARD Summer is just around the corner and it literally is around the corner for me. I live pretty close to where this year's edition of...

Greetings New Yorkers. It’s only the beginning, May 25 th to be exact, and the heat is starting to kick in. Our concrete jungle is slowly morphing into a roasting sauna. However, there are plenty of upsides to this temperature change: the sun is shining, flip-flops are becoming the ideal shoe of choice, the streets are flooded with people, and music is in the air, literally. Everywhere you walk, day and night, night and day, palpable, melodic vibrations are pouring out venue doors, small cafes, and street corners. This concept is refreshing, the winter is far behind us and [...]

I have a confession to make. I've never been to a proper festival. Not the kind that gets covered by all the big blogs and newspapers, not the kind where people from all over the country drop everything to go, and certainly not the kind where you camp out for four days. Soon, though, my festival cherry will be popped by the prom king of music festivals, Sasquatch! I’m so excited, I think I may actually punch someone! I've been told time and time again that Sasquatch is one of the best fests in the US. It's been [...]

With their third album, La Liberación , out on Cooperative Music this August, Brazilian electro-rockers CSS are in promotion mode big-time. But with their U.S. tour being over (for now at last) as of May 21st, the group is going to need a new way to generate some buzz. Proving themselves to be genius yet decidedly wholesome entrepreneurs, the five-piece have put together a mixtape entitled Songs for Cooking . As if the title wasn't obvious enough, it's a playlist that lasts long enough (just under 50 [...]

I am on a roll this week when it comes to finding new hot artists! This producer, crate digger and dj from Norway named Torkelsen stands out with his analog sounding music that to me sounds like a mix between Ratatat, RJD2 and DJ Shadow. His first released single called Outside/Inside is pure melodic glitch at its finest! My favorite from this single is Inside, i can't really compare it to anything because i haven't heard anything quite like it! It's so strange and magical with haunting lead synths and great beats on reversed guitar samples. [...]

Zeale Deep-End In an effort to alienate the majority of my followers, I thought I would post a Grizzly Bear mash up for ya’ll. I usually despise anything that slightly resembles Chiddy Bang (sorry dude, your shit sucks), but Austin rapper Zeale ’s Two Weeks mash up ain’t bad. Feel free to ignore all of the lyrics except, “You tryin’ to stick around here, who are you Scottie Pippin ?” (1:50) and “When life [...]

Just got this sent to us a couple of days ago and wanted to him him a little hype. Nigel Williams who goes by "daZe" has got a passionate story and more importantly to us, his music is fantastic. He incorporates all types of music into his lyrical flows. He has some original beats, but also mixes it up with classic rock, alternative, blues, and other styles. In the songs below, he mixes a rap up with a song produced by the alternative bank "ratatat" and then he goes a completely different route doing his own variation of Loser by [...]

It's the f***ing Catalina Rhyme Mixers ! Now that I got that out, listen to their awesome mashup that consists of songs so popular you should probably know them all. Serious props to these dudes on their artwork, song aside. [Audio Clip: View Full Post To Listen] Download: Kanye West vs. Ratatat vs. Wale - Nasa Drugs (The Catalina Rhyme Mixers' Mashup)

(Photo credit: Vans 66 ) Even though this was my second time seeing Ratatat perform, I was once again astounded to see that such a extra-terrestrial and otherworldy sound could be coming from just two guys, rather than a symphony of synthesizers. After suffering from some technical difficulties (while an overly-eager crowd began chants of “Olay, Olay Olay Olay”) the duo began with an eerie opening that led into a spine-chilling performance of “Loud Pipes,” as a video of spectacular fireworks played on the screen behind them. There were times throughout the set where I [...]

A first impression is a lasting impression. At least that is the conventional wisdom. And I'd argue that whatever wisdom lay in that theory with regard to social interactions applies equally to a listener's interaction with music. If you have a negative reaction (i.e. boredom, indifference, or outright dislike) to the first song you hear by a band, it can be very difficult to overcome that first impression. And although people are listening to music as "albums" less and less frequently, an album's opening track is nonetheless often a band's first opportunity to connect with a listener. Additionally, opening tracks [...]
