This podcast is called the Greencast because we have the most hobbled government in recent memory - Cameron has kinda, sorta, maybe won, in the sense that he is actually the PM. On the other hand Clegg, having been butchered at the polls, after a promising campaign, is now in a position of more influence than he was ever likely to gain from the election alone. And yet Labour, despite being deposed, seem to have come out of it all better than anyone. They may be out of power, but they are free from the millstone [...]

Before the mentalism kicks in, some nice things. Firstly Los Podcartos have been extremely Toad-friendly this week, with two very generous pieces on what we're getting up to at this end of the M8. On Thursday they published an interview with my good self in which, as ever, I talk rather too much. Fortunately, liberated from my own waterfall-tongued contributions, they were able to be just a little more disciplined in their podcast this weekend, during which they are incredibly nice about Toad things and plug the Wednesday Toad Night at Mono for [...]
Dear universe: It's awesome that you got me free tickets to the Georgie James / Aqueduct show because it ruled. However, it's not awesome when I lose the footage I shot of Aqueduct performing Warren G's "Regulate" and when both my Internet service is down and the water in my building is shut off practically all day. You're lucky that I have tomorrow's Duran Duran tribute night at Neo to make up for it. Kthnxbye! Powderfinger [...]
Podcast!! Podcast webpage Direct Link RSS Feed For some reason, Libsyn seems to think I'm using 100 MB storage, which means they think I'm over quota. This means that this podcast won't be on iTunes or other podcatchers until supposedly tomorrow. Anyhow, in the meantime it should still be available for direct download. I'm only actually using 75 MBs, so I'm understandably unhappy with Libsyn

Songs That Might Otherwise Pass You By Sunday Drivers, "The Sweetest Disguise" (File originally from their site, but it's timing out.) I love the style of this song--the tense, dark vocals, the melody that pushes me towards the climax--the climax that doesn't seem to end for minutes...it's very reminiscent of my favorite music--the "new wave" music of the late 70's, early 80's. I wish there

This is a bit of a mutual back-scratching exercise, so I thought I'd better confess my motives up front, but I think you all know me well enough to know I'd never plug something I didn't genuinely like. The Waiting Room is a two-hour weekly podcast by a couple of muppets who actually give the [...]

I'm sure lots of bloggers have already covered this album, but just in case you haven't heard about it yet, on September 4th, Engine Room Recordings will be releasing "Guilt By Association," a compilation album of indie artists covering what they call their "Guilty Pleasure Mainstream Pop Hits." No surprise that quite a few of the covered tunes are from the '80s and late '70s. Here's the tracklist: 1. Petra Haden - Don't Stop Believin (Journey) 2. Devendra Banhart - Don't Look Back In Anger (Oasis) 3. Mark Mulcahy - From This Moment On [...]

So I've finally got my wedding mix locked down (and backed up). This diddy here is going to play somewhere in the middle (the bride-to-be would not let me remove it from the list). In some weird twist of coincidence, I received a cover of that song today, which is quite different. A nice perspective on a classic. Check out Hungry Like The Wolf by Rats With Wings . The band hails from Brooklyn, a two-piece (Brendan Fitzpatrick and David Hurtgen) who have been [...]

Indie band Rats With Wings is the latest collaborative effort of Brendan Fitzpatrick (Clem Snide, Johnny Boomslang) and David Hurtgen (bitchmidget, Johnny Boomslang) - a duo that has been working together for nearly 15 years. Their sound is a culmination of wide ranging influences from Dylan to Merzbow, with Fitzpatrick acting as the primary songwriter, and Hurtgen as the arranger/producer. Rats With Wings' music is featured in IFC's film "The Baxter" and they regularly play the NYC club scene. Rats With Wings first full length cd "Tiny Guns" will be self-released on 24 August. You can order the CD through [...]
